On-topic, what out of left-field shows could wind up running?

What's airing for sure:
Bleach
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (at least the press release indicates such)
Cowboy Bebop (according to the on-air schedule)

The popular candidates for returns or debuts:
Inuyasha: The Final Act
Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt
Outlaw Star
Trigun

What's a possible surprise in store for us? AS has dealings with Viz, FUNimation, and Aniplex, and they seem to be trying to restore their relationship with Bandai.

I predict that they'll just air the teaser bump they've been airing since Wednesday. Although I hope they surprise us.

Adult Swim is one of the rare few networks that have loyal viewers. They can do something like this(not telling us what the lineup is until the airing day or make schedule changes with mimimal to no promotion) and not lose that many viewers. And we know it works most of the time. Look at April Fools Day.

Considering how Toonami several DCAU shows during it's run... Do you think DC might be planning develop a more Adult DC-related show?

I know Sam Register said the studio was interesting in doing something for Adult Swim. Personally I'm praying for a Sandman animated series.

A Scott Pilgrim animated series on Toonami; I had always hoped we'd get one on [as], but this is better.

Yeah, you're not the only one hoping for that. It'd really make an awesome fit and considering how popular the series still is 3 years after the final book (and with it all being re-released in color books starting this August) there's still a lot of gain to be made from it.

Hahah, I also remember that Jason DeMarco retweets Bryan Lee O'Malley regularly. I'm pretty sure he's a fan of the series too. I'm sure he'd be open to listening to the idea if it got pitched to Williams Street.

Yeah, Scott Pilgrim VS. The Animation was the title of that. Animated by Titmouse (who did the Venture Brothers Christmas Special).

I'm not sure I'd want them animating a series though, but the short was a nice little treat. Made me think about what it's like for Japanese fans of a manga to watch their series animated and hear actors saying the same dialogue they've read before in the books.

BLOM and Edgar Wright always talked about an animated series.

And 7 hour long episodes actually sound like a much bigger hassle than just making a full fledged 30 minute episode season that just follows all the books. 14 episodes is also way too little.

Why rush through it? The series is still popular enough to survive a full season adapting the story.

Yeah that's more in the ballpark of what I'm thinking. 20-25 episodes would be just fine and I imagine it would have great pacing.

I haven't been able to post for a while, but I AM SO GLAD TOONAMI IS BACK!!!!!

That being said, I really hope they air new shows in the 12:30 and 1:00 slots. I know a lot of people want older Toonami shows and series to sprout up again, but I don't think Toonami should be a nostalgia block. The revival should be used to regenerate interest in the anime industry, airing the best of the best new anime. 2012 is a good year, there's a lot of high quality stuff comming down the pipes and much of it is fresh in tone and atmosphere. So they should focus on getting newer stuff for a new Toonami instead of walllowing in reruns.

Of course, I do think they should get some older stuff, particularly some of the block's shorter but definitive shows, like Outlaw Star, or perhaps even Tenchi Muyo. I think an older show is what will air in the 2am slot, and as long as it isn't Dragonball Z, I think everyone would be happy with just anything they could show there.

As for the newer stuff I'm hoping for, I've been hearing that [adult swim] isn't getting Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, which is a shame. Aside from Inuyasha: The Final Act, pretty much any new licensed anime could be possible. Personally, though, I'm hoping One Piece makes a comeback, but at this point that's unlikely. I don't think Tiger & Bunny's dub is finished, and I don't really think Naruto Shippuden will be shown either, at least not at this point. Funimation has a lot of good shows that are going to be comming out soon, like Fractale and Shangri-La, that [adult swim] might be interested in. But they've passed up on great shows like Soul Eater and D.Grayman in the past, so I dunno.

Perhaps Black Dynamite will be apart of this new Toonami. The show looks really good art wise, and the plot isn't any sillier than, oh, Bobobo-bobo-bobo or Duel Masters, beloved Toonami shows in the past. It'd be a perfect fit, and remind people that Toonami is not just about anime, it's about airing the finest action cartoons on the planet!

As for the encore slots, I hope those are only temporary and will dissapear as the block starts to (hopefully) expand it's show pool. Six hours is a lot of time, but the way [adult swim] is splitting it, the new Toonami is basically three hours, which is a little short if you ask me, especially for a weekly block.

And as for the talk about a Scott pilgrim animated series, I wonder if they made one, they could make a completely new plot as well. That would be cool.

I'm thinking they will air one of the following first:

1. Inuyasha (not Final Act) since it was originally suppose to be on Toonami in the first place.

2. Yu Yu Hakusho. IIRC, it was the first show to air on Adult Swim Saturdays many years ago.


Regardless of what they air, I'm predicting the show's opening theme will be played in full.

I'm also kind of hoping that the block will NOT be all anime, I'm hoping to see 1 or 2 non-Japanese action shows on the block......even if they don't air until the final hour. People tend to forget that Toonami isn't an anime block more so than it was an action block, it just helped to make anime a little more relevant in the United States.
