"Toonami" News & Discussion Thread

On the topic of Super Mutant Magic Academy, it's weird because Toonami only airs comedy cartoons when they are anime (Pop Team Epic) or anime parodies (Ballmasterz, Gemetsu Machu Picchu).
That was the most surprising part for me, too. What exactly is *Toonami* about it? Between Common Side Effects and this, it really seems like [adult swim] is beginning to view Toonami as a dumping ground for anything that isn’t a sitcom, stoner show, or Rick and Morty.

Not sure why they are still pretending that Superman didn’t already have an S4 announced. If people like it and it’s doing well as they say, they shouldn’t need to play this game.
It's some weird quirk they do for all DC shows the past couple years, even the ones on Prime Video and HBO Max.

What a lazy change.
BE is getting double slots.

Eh... If you're gonna be airing BE from the beginning, you have 4 seasons of reruns and have nothing else for the bottom half of the block, you may as well speed things along.

If AS owns it and it’s even mildly Toonami themed, we are gonna get it as a cheap slot filler. They don’t care about the block theme, they care about saving money.

CSE had absolutely zero business being on Toonami, but since they got away with it once, they are gonna try to do it again.

SMMA is a very blatant parody of Harry Potter, just like Mashle, so I guess that’s their justification. If it stays the course of the comic, it’s really gonna stand out on the block though. The art direction we saw from the recent release is very “western tumblr” which isn’t the audience for Toonami.

I think Avatar might be put on Toonami. That makes way more sense as a Toonami show.
Avatar belongs to Nick, how is that gonna work? Even if there was some kind of synergy to make it happen, Nick would never approve it because an Adult Swim run taints their ability to market it to kids. Same reason CN never crossed streams with AS unless it was planned to be permanent like Samurai Jack.

Better to air Justice League Unlimited uncut on Toonami. (I can't believe what Vortexx had done to the series back then...)

Demarco hates Avatar and Korra as supposed Toonami ripoffs. Remember when TOM3 was throwing VHS tapes of Jake Long? It’s never airing on Toonami.

It takes inspiration from Ranma 1/2 and My Neighbours the Yamadas so there are some anime influences to it.

“Demarco hates it” is usually a reason to lead with, but it’s such a non factor suggestion that has a literal 0% chance of happening, that Demarco’s opinion on it hardly matters.

It’s like walking into a CN thread and saying they are gonna air Spongebob soon. It’s completely nonsensical to even suggest.

I was suggesting Justice League Unlimited, seriously. There are some DC Comics fans that miss watching the show. If it ever gets rebroadcast on Toonami uncut and in HD, that would be great.

Both JL and JLU are currently streaming on Tubi, so if fans are missing them, they're at least available on a free streaming site. While JLU would be a good fit for Toonami, they probably would prefer to get something more recent if possible. Plus, I vaguely recall a comment that Cartoon Network shows still cost money to air on Adult Swim. If that is the case, that could explain why they don't go through the valut of older Cartoon Network shows from the 90's and 2000's.

It was a shame they never aired Suicide Squad Isekai. By WB Japan and Wit Studio in an anime style. This August will mark 2 years since they finished all of the English dub on Max. I think CN Japan aired it. Since this was Max and Hulu, maybe some co-licensing rights thing prevented it from airing the same time on CN US but maybe after 2 years...

Nick is simply not viable as a network for an action show, kids arent a profitable demographic anymore anyway, and its a new show they arent really interested in. And DeMarco has aparently been replaced by Kim Manning again so he doesnt have the final say anymore.

Not profitable according to? Not interested according to? You are acting like you are on the Nick board of directors or something.

If nothing else, Nick doesn’t need the money, so it makes more sense for them to just sit on it forever than let a competitor have it.

According to many executives, creators, writers and animation that have said over and over and over and over and over and over that action cartoons aimed at kids arent profitable anymore because kids channels cant make them a success and the only way to do that is an an adult action block like Toonami. Why do you think Superman was put on Toonami despite being a kids show?

I am not the Nick board of directors but I am just a poster. Just like you are. If anything I am making basing my opinion on the limited objective information we get. And Nick aint competition anymore. They belong to the same company and if Nick doesnt want it anyway why not put it on Toonami? Harry Potter is coming to Nick already.

Also I really dont want to be rude, but I was only making a theory and an opinion. It wasnt a super dead serious argument and you guys too it too seriously. Jeez.

Because due to many years of mismanagement, Cartoon Network has a foot in the grave and the show surely would have failed there. Not because of its content, but because no one watches CN anymore.

Despite being part of AS now, it is still engaging in kid oriented censorship, such as laser guns, because it’s still on the kids section of HBO Max.

That deal has not finalized and both networks are still competitors. We dont even know if that deal will finalize, because Paramount has lost a significant piece of funding that was allowing them to make the bid they did. Until the paperwork is actually signed, it’s not official.

Even if it does finalize, just look at DC. They have done everything in their power to NOT let Toonami have any of their shows. Being owned by the same company doesn’t mean they have to work together.

Everyone applause these two characters, for soon getting their own spin-off full animated series!!! (who would have expected a series with PB and Marceline anyway? I know they have an upcoming comic book series which will go well with)

Watched Toy Story 5 today. It felt like another awesome escapade for the characters, while also they taught an important lesson: it's ok to be different, especially if you still like to play with toys. Lily turned from an antagonist to a hero of the movie, because of realising exactly that.
