"A Flightless Bird": Paul Williams and the Penguin...

I think Burnett was telling the truth, otherwise it would be a weird thing to lie about. Even in the flashback scene in ROTJ (his two lines), Robin's voice is quite deeper. Tbh, I think Tim's voice was pretty interchangeable, so I can't say I care either way. But back to Penguin, it was just a...

"Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths (Animated Trilogy)" Pre-Release News & Discussion (Spoilers)

I can already guess what's going to happen. We'll see Batman and Joker on screen for like 20 seconds before their universe gets vaporized.

"A Flightless Bird": Paul Williams and the Penguin...

Of course. Recasts in situations like this is done because a producer isn't a fan of the previous voice or wanted a different take. In the case of Penguin in MOTB, in this interview Alan Burnett says he wanted to bring a "big boss" element to the character, and make the character sound more...

"A Flightless Bird": Paul Williams and the Penguin...

Bruce Timm didn't agree with the decision either. Williams did recently get to voice Brainiac in Superman: Red Son movie, which was neat.

"Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths, Part Two" Animated Release Talkback (Spoilers)

He has exactly 3 lines of dialogue, so yes. It did make me smile when he said "they were about to slag the whole planet." Appreciated the BB slang term.

One extra episode you'd like to have seen in the DCAU?

For B:TAS/TNBA, I would have liked to have seen a Commissioner Gordon centric episode. The closest we got to one was "Over the Edge." For Justice League Unlimited, it would have been fun to get a Mxyzptlk vs the League episode.

Literally came into this thread to say exactly this.

"Batman: Caped Crusader (Amazon Prime)" Animated Series News & Discussion Part 2 (Spoilers)

    DCAU Fan Theories?

To add to this, I kind of like that the episode adaptation (understandably so) also removed this bit, which feels fairly dated.

Kevin Conroy has passed away at age 66

Not that it's necessarily our business, but it seems like Kevin Conroy had been in remission from cancer or some sickness for about 20 years. Seemed like a long ongoing issue. George Newbern mentions here that 20 years ago Conroy struggled with a big health issue and that he almost past away.

"Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths (Animated Trilogy)" Pre-Release News & Discussion (Spoilers)

I would imagine this likely confirms this is going to be the DCAU version of Terry McGinnis? He's never appeared in animation outside the DCAU aside from Robot Chicken.

"Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths (Animated Trilogy)" Pre-Release News & Discussion (Spoilers)

Introducing the youtube kids classification is the worst thing that youtube has implemented. Not only can you not read any comments anymore, but I've even seen PG-13 and R rated animated movies receive the kids classification because animation=kids I guess.

Vintage Interviews with the Makers of the DCAU

If only this happened for Nightwing. The only missed opportunity of ROTJ was not having Dick Grayson at the end when Bruce and Barbara visit Tim at the hospital and start patching things up. If there's one thing I could add to any DCAU show or movie, that would be it.

    DCAU Fan Theories?

Rolled my eyes when he was dunking on TNBA at the end for its "stinker" episodes. The worst episode of TNBA (which is probably Love is a Croc for me simply because Bab-Doll should have remained a one-off character and the pairing with Croc is bizarre), is still miles better than the worst...

What would be your ideal "Suicide Squad" animated outing?

Keep the scale small. The problem with recent Suicide Squad media (the video game and the two DCEU movies) is for whatever bizarre reason they're about saving the world. The Suicide Squad should be about espionage and infiltrating specific places. Not fighting aliens

"Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths (Animated Trilogy)" Pre-Release News & Discussion (Spoilers)

No, that's Nolan North. Both Daly and Newbern have voiced Supes in other media since the DCAU ended, though Daly hasn't voiced Supes in a while now. Newbern voiced him recently in Multiverse and the Fatal Five movie. I'm still skeptical that Conroy recorded anything for Crisis, esp given half...

"Batman: Caped Crusader (Amazon Prime)" Animated Series News & Discussion Part 2 (Spoilers)

I'm pretty sure it was Paul Dini who said that, actually. It was about Young Justice. Is this what you were talking about? In December 2013, Kevin Smith and Paul Dini had a conversation in an episode of Smith's Fat Man on Batman podcast addressing the 2013 cancellation of Tower Prep (created...

"Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths, Part One" Animated Release Talkback (Spoilers)

Don't really understand what this means. All love to Conroy and all but he's one guy. Despite his sudden passing, we should all be happy that he got to voice Batman for 30 years and put his stamp on the character. Saying he's "DC animation" is kind of senseless, especially because during his...

    What dog is Ace?

According to Bruce Timm in his Modern Masters book, Ace is a rotweiler/great dane mix. Apparently, Alan Burnett and Paul Dini wanted Ace to be a german shepard, but it wasn't "Batman" enough.

Online Resources and Articles for the DCAU...

BT said in this interview that Dwayne McDuffie was the writer he was the most in sync with. Do you have a favorite piece of work that you’ve done? The short answer to that is: I love all the series I’ve done pretty much equally. I haven’t done a single series that I have been embarrassed by...

I can't wait for the series to (hopefully) be awesome, and the internet to downplay Timm. "You see, he's just dah artist. Ed Brubaker is dah real mastermind!" I don't wanna go off on a tangent here, but the way Timm gets treated by fandom these days, and the number of falsehoods that spread...

"Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths (Animated Trilogy)" Pre-Release News & Discussion (Spoilers)

Ha, funny you bring up the episode Trial, because my only complaint with that episode is how Riddler just suddenly vanishes in the next scene after being part of the jury. Where did he go? At any rate, John Glover was a great VA for the character but quite underutilized. He only had like 2-3...

Here's another one. The divorce between Terry's parents was a result of Warren suspecting his wife of having an affair (i.e. why Terry and his brother have black hair and blue eyes despite their parents being red heads).

What are your favorite and least favorite DC animated films?

Why wouldn't they haha? I actually think Brainiac Attacks and Batman and Harley Quinn have a lot of similarities. Both movies use a similar art style of "classic" shows like B:TAS/S:TAS, but both end up feeling like parodies of those shows. Brainiac Attacks at least explores the romance...

What Do You All Think Of My Adventures With Superman?

I think it has a great depiction of Clark and Lois, and their relationship is pretty cute. Superman has all the qualities you'd want Superman to have, but he's not a bland boy scout either and feels like a 3-dimensional character. Where the show falls short are the villains. Many of them are...

Rejected DC Comics Designs and Show Pitches, Part 2

I thought Jimmy and the Kents were solid. Very traditional and likeable. Supergirl was another good addition. I do think characters like Perry White or Emil Hamilton came off as bland in S:TAS, but the latter benefited a lot from his heel turn in JLU. It all boils down to the writing, and...

What are your favorite and least favorite DC animated films?

I assume you're talking about Superman/Batman Public Enemies and Batman/Superman Apocalypse? Those movies obviously aren't part of the DCAU. In terms of why, I'd imagine because Andrea Romano and BT like working with the same people, but also want different actors to freshen things up and to...

    RIP Arlene Sorkin

It's not even up for debate, everyone else is just stepping into her shoes. The character was based on Arleen Sorkin, i.e. her mannerisms, her name, the fact that Harley is Jewish, Sorkin was a big influence as to what the character became what it was. It's one of those casting choices where the...
