The Toonami Thread

Its hard to keep track of everything going on in all the Toonami threads these days, but I figured I'd (re)post it here in case I missed it being said earlier in the thread.

Jason DeMarco of Adult Swim / William Street confirmed Toonami won't be on this weekend. He further said "stay tuned" and "getting Toonami rolling is a ton of work" (actual quotes - cuss words removed in case mods still frown upon that being in quotes).

It sounds like any hopes of an encore this weekend just isn't in the books --- but you never know. Something random could happen.

Steve Blum has said about the same on various social media.

Eh, can't say I'm surprised.

Unless they were to run largely the exact same lineup as last Saturday, it'd be too little time to string together all the necessary bumps and what have you in just one week. You have to assume that the AFD stunt was being planned and prepared months in advance.

At least it sounds like they are working on it, though, so a comeback only sounds inevitable at this point. So yeah, still excited.

Prepped my DVR already.

Y there not going to show it Jason even said so the best we can hope for is an announcement

I think we might get some kind of promo, or something. A lot of people are obviously gonna be tuning in regardless, just out of curiosity.

Source?

I see. According to him, Naruto also wasn't Toonami's death knell. So...there's that.

That's not exactly a revelation.

No one thing caused Toonami to go down before --- there were A LOT of contributing reasons.

Naruto itself wasn't Toonami's demise, but Naruto running out of non-filler episodes certainly was a contributing factor. Not having a series to follow up with Naruto was also a contributing factor. Cartoon Network slashing Toonami's budget was another contributing factor. There were a lot of contributing factors!

The probably the biggest factor still remains that CN wanted to focus on its OWN properties (ones they own outright). Back then and even now --- too many people attribute Toonami to Anime. Having a block that was saw to be "an anime block" was (and fairly stated) still is not conducive to Cartoon Network's goal to produce properties that they own.

This is largely why most posts in this thread, I'm usually looking to tap Toonami on CN to group the popular action series. I think it would be in the best interest of the block (and everyone who gives it air time) to make it more clear that Toonami is about superb action shows. I think grouping together reruns of Ben10, Generator Rex, Star Wars: Clone Wars and Thunder Cats (on a limited basis) into a block and show them together would help drive home that message.

Dose anyone think [as] will say anything tonite

I'd say its a good bet. Keep the outer space background?
I think the custom design got nixed in the forum upgrade. For that matter it seems like many of the boards more recently lost their custom stuff.. I've been kinda wondering about that honestly, but..

Whelp, in case its not obvious --- its confirmed in real time --- no Toonami bumpers or anything of the kin tonight.

I still wonder if there might be some sort of commercial or spot light or something to talk about last weeks happenings. I would have expected it at the beginning of Bleach or beginning of Adult Swim if something was going to happen though.

I think its to late now i'm pretty disipointed they didn't day anything

Nothing through the start of FMA.

I'm going to take this as a good sign that they probably aren't just going to do a quick re-skin of Adult Swim Action and instead thy are taking the time to put together something pretty cool. Maybe it wont even be TOM 3, a new TOM perhaps?

If this does end up involving new (or old) acquisitions, that would probably take extra time as well.

The decision of bringing back the Toonami Board (whether Toonami as a block returns or not) depends almost entirely on Jeff Harris. The board was the official board for his site.

Its hard to tell whats going on at this point. It doesn't seem anyone is ready to talk about it at Pax or Sakura Con.

Personally, I kind of hope if they want something, they'll reskin the block initially to try to get interest up while they work on a completely new bumper package and schedule intended to be released at the end of the summer.

Lets face it --- it was kind of a hack job splicing together TOM v3.0 with TOM v4.0 bumpers and art. Graphic technology as come A LONG WAY since even TOM v4.0 debuted and I think it would be almost a crime to slap together the bumpers as they were on April first without a long term plan to make a more cohesive feeling block package.

That being said --- it would be nice if the continuity of Toonami's "story" can be continued. I mean we should get a story to explain what happened to TOM v4.0 (lets hope he was eaten by a dinosaur or something!) to transition to TOM v5.0. Obviously we can't really expect something like the Invasion event, but lets face it, bringing back Toonami DOES deserve a fanfare of some sort.

While it might be nice to get a new TOM provided he didn't suck design-wise, I almost think I would prefer them going back to the TOM3 look and just pretending like 4 was more or less a bad memory or maybe an imposter or something, idk. I get what you mean but I'm not sure they would be willing to risk the budget or risk or something like that right away. I'd be happy with this guy right now *points to avatar*

Also, why do people keep saying that any "TOM 4.0 era" bumpers were used. I'm 99% sure that they did not use anything from that. I know they edited the "Dreams" video to end with a shot of TOM3 instead of TOM2 but aside from that I really do not believe that anything was "slapped together" so to speak.

They mixed the Tom v3.0 and the Tom v4.0 bumpers together.

Tom v3.0 used that HORRIBLE Gothic font in all the bumpers (who the heck thought that was a good idea?).

Color wise, the Tom v4.0 bumpers all have the Red / White look to them. where as the Tom v3.0 all used the dark teal colors and black colors with white font.

I think a lot of people will agree the v4.0 bumpers are great --- its just Tom and his side kicks were more of a "WTF?".

PERSONALLY, I like everything about Tom v2.0 better. The "bridge" looked cooler, Sara looked cooler as an AI on the screens then a manifestation or hologram walking around and Tom v2.0 himself looked pretty decent all around. Heck, I honestly don't really know what the difference between Tom 2.0 and Tom v3.0 is actually.

The difference is almost minimal between Tom v2.0 and Tom v3.0 save size. I don't think I have strong feelings either way.

Thomas the Tank Engine can stay forgotten, hopefully buried under 1000 decaying anacars and train engines.

Okay, so I found out that Sailor Moon had meet and greets at Universal Studios back in May. It would have been so cool if we had that at the turn of the century. I have gotten hugs from a Sailor Moon and a Sailor Mars at a local con back in the 2010s and spent under $100 doing it, so I don't know if this is worth the splurge but I can see that these affluent geeky people are enjoying their Sailor Moon hugs.
The characters from Netflix's Mating Season apparently were born from the same deeps as the Warner Bros cartoon characters
