Rejected Nick Pilot: the Modifyers

Eh, the art is great, but I just didn't find the thing that funny. Not painfully unfunny or anything, just not amazingly hilarious. Just a pilot though. Shows always get funnier after that. I woulda given it a few more episodes.

Er, forgive my ignorance, because I'm drawing a blank, but what show are you referring to? The first Nicktoon I can recall having a female lead was The Wild Thornberries.

I didn't mean the first Nicktoon. The first show Nick produced independently was Clarissa.

This looks like it would've been a great show. I can't see it on Nick but definitely Nicktoons Network. I like how she disguised herself as a bad guy but the ending pretty much suggested that she would no longer get away with it.

The artwork is beautiful, love the colors. I'd watch it, maybe Cartoon Network or Disney could pick it up.

A good looking piece of work, for sure! Too bad it didn't get picked up.

Never try to understand TV network executives ("never try to teach a pig to sing; it wastes your time and annoys the pig!" ).

Maybe they should let the talented people who actually create shows decide what shows get picked up. If they're really hard up, I'm available. I've got 50 years of experience watching animation ... I couldn't do any worse!

Yeah, it's a real shame that execs sometimes choose shows based on statistics over merits. I enjoyed this a lot. It's far too often that great yet rejected animated pilots come along imho.

This could have Nickelodeon's Secret Satrudays, a great underrated show.

BTW, Jeff Benett as the cheif? Johnny is Suzy's boss. LOL Watching a Johnny Bravo marathon today on Boomerang, can't help but think that she is the closest thing to a grown up version of little Suzy the neighbor girl. Mae's grownup characters are more serious characters, so this is kind of return to her Suzy roots.

Agent Xero reminds a little bit of Sailor Moon, with her goofball attitude, but still getting the job done.

Yeah I know, but Johnny Bravo was the first. Besides the Cheif sounds more like Johnny than the Huntsman ever did.

I just finished watching it. I love the art and animation style, but wasn't a fan of the jokes. Other than a good chuckle or two, I really didn't find it all that funny. Though, I do wish I could see what's going to happen next.

Just saw this last night. I liked it, though I agree with macattack that this would probably be better as a show that focused a lil' more on the action aspect as opposed to the comedy, but that's just my humble opinion.

The concept was interesting as was the surreal setting it took place in. The designs were very colorful & eye catching & I enjoyed Mae Whitman's performance as Agent Zero.

It's a shame though that this was rejected because the execs were afarid to take a chance on a female lead. Zero wasn't even all that "girly" to me anyway. Somebody needs to tell these people that as long as the show isn't too "girly" in nature, boys will watch a show with a female lead as long as the show is fun & entertaining. Powerpuff Girls, Kim Possible, & I'm sure every guy around my age watched a few episodes of Sailor Moon back in the day, wheter they'll admit to it or not.

Very nice for a pilot, to my understanding. Looks to have a great light-hearted action vibe to it. Do shows very often get picked up years after their initial pitches are made? This show seems quite worth it.

If that was the case then My Life as a Teenage Robot, As Told By Ginger, and Mighty B! wouldn't have became series since those shows had female leads.

I think the reason was that Nick was too busy making more Spongebob episodes.

The only one I know of is Adventure Time, which was picked up two or three years after it had been made, and that was mostly due to a huge amount of popularity on the Internet before the initial pitch to Cartoon Network.

That was epic. It was funny, had great art, and the female lead was about as hot as a drawing can ever be.

I enjoyed the pilot; it was great to see Chris Reccardi's loose animation style again, and the London-esque backdrops were very stylish. As others said, it wasn't particularly funny, but at least it held my attention, and the cliffhanger ending worked, especially since the catalyst for it was hinted at earlier. The costume-changing aspect had potential, too.

Not picking this up because it stars a female protagonist has got to be the dumbest reason ever. If true, that is.

It's not even as "girly" as those shows. PPG had the overwhelming kawaii, Kim Possible dealt in teenybopper cliches albeit for the sake of parody, but I don't see anything here that could turn any guys off this show.

Hey, Kim Possible was pretty good. Just out of curiosity, did this lead female have a best friend who served as her partner and potential love interest? That's what really grabbed me with KP.

Nick rejected Constant Payne because of 3 reasons:

1. With the whole 9/11 Nick didn't want to risk to show an action show, not to mention that the main character's mom was killed by terrorist.

2. Since the creator joined the Writer's Guild, Nick didn't like it one bit.

3. The brainless executives thought that it was too violent for a kids show.......i mean come on! I seen worst violent cartoons on TV before.

Anyway it was a real shame with Constant Payne since it was gonna be the first action cartoon from Nick also it's like the Nick version of The Secret Saturdays.
