Wugs is on vacation, and I'm like the only person in the world who doesn't seem to care for JJBATAS.

That leaves only 1 person to blame here: SamTheGreek.

Why isn't this thread filled with praise for JJBATAS?

Seriously.
I dunno. I loved it. But I didn't really say anything because, besides being busy with my stupid capstone class which I hate, I really had nothing to say. I mean, Antfish's awesomeness speaks for itself. Though I guess I could have taken 20 seconds to reaffirmed that, especially since it was the finale. My bad.

I would like to know if he is planning anything else. I hope he is, cause Anfish's work never seems to disappoint me.

Nice try, bringing my name up out of nowhere, but we see past your attempt to divert attention away from your statement.
How in the world could you not care for JJBATAS?

Now, I'm not trying to be a brown-nosing fanboy here. And I'm certainly not saying you have to like it. I ask because I'm honestly curious. I think you, and perhaps one other person, are the only people I've ever heard of who've seen his work and didn't care for it. I'm itching to know your perspective on it.

Heh, I have no problems talking about it (provided Kaiser takes the knife away from my throat =P), but would this be the best place to discuss it at length?

Isn't that what this thread is for?

Meh, dunno.

I just don't find his stuff funny at all, because most of the time, I don't see any jokes. I can go several minutes of watching JJBATAS feeling like I'm watching the show itself, because the characters seem to not be serving any purpose other than furthering the plot, rather than making humorous dialogue.

Other than the occasional blatantly obvious video editing joke, I don't find many things that are meant to make me laugh. I see a couple of jokes in each of the episode and stuff, but when there's so much dialogue and action in between that doesn't seem like it's supposed to be humorous, the pacing starts to feel very off, and detracts greatly from the actual jokes.

Odds are, there's probably just a lot of references in those spaces. As clever as references can be done, they will usually exclude the people who won't get the reference. Seeing as I'm a person who doesn't really care much about most movies, TV shows, and video games, I find that most references are lost on me.

Furthermore, I have occasionally detected references to World of Warcraft in his episodes (Such as Kel'Thuzad's "Fools, you think yourselves triumphant? You have only taken one step closer to the abyss!"). While I did get the reference in those cases, I didn't find them humorous. What's there to laugh at? He used a sound clip from World of Warcraft. Cool. I don't understand how that is supposed to equate to lulz.

Another issue seems to be the music. It's very rarely used to make things sound funny, but more often than not, just to give a feel of "This is dramatic" or "This is epic". It doesn't set up the mood all that well, imo, to get me to laugh.

I mean, I can't really point out too many specifics, since I found most of it forgettable.

But, on the other hand:
  • I am still entertained by JJBATAS, usually, even though I'm not amused.
  • Antfish is a great VA.
  • Antfish is an above average editor.

I have yet to watch the finale myself, but most of the time when I'm watching JJBAA it seems to me that I'm watching something very very good that's aimed at an entirely different audience. I'm entertained by it, and I can appreciate that it's being done very well, but in a way that I can't entirely put my finger on I never get the feeling that it's quite FOR me. If that makes sense.

That would be very similar to how I feel.

I've exhausted enough praise as it is. Anymore and it would be nigh rabid irrational fanboyism. Although Antfish deserves that more often that not.

The finale was great, but it still doesn't compare to the 'gewd'ness of Episode 7. I still watch that episode from time to time and revel in the dialogue and mannerism of Darby.

If this is the case, then I honestly have no idea what to say. What Mynd says makes sense to me and I get that. It's not his style of humor, which I have to say is understandable especially when you compare Ant's style to his. But to claim there are no jokes? No funny dialog? Ant's joke per minute is off the charts, and just about every conversation Dio has with anyone is (intended) to be humorous.

The only reason I can see you somehow missing the jokes is because Ant's episodes never stop flowing. When there's a joke, he doesn't give you time to stop, recognize the joke, laugh at it, and then move on. the episodes just keep on going in a really natural way, as though Jotaro talking about fajitas is a totally normal thing. There's no "laugh track" so to speak that points out when you're supposed to find something funny, it just is.

PS: The Kel'Thuzad thing was the only Warcraft reference I got out of it. There are far more Team Fortress 2 references.

I thought this was the best place to discuss Yu-Gi-Oh! and Dragon Ball Z Abridged at length? :p

Okay, where'd this chip on your shoulder come from? Seriously, I don't know who in your family LK or TFS slighted, but how about we skip the passive aggressive crap and be real for a second, hmm?

*shrug* I dunno

Like I said to Kaiser yesterday, this puzzles me more than anyone else.

I just don't see the jokes in his stuff. I don't see where the humor is supposed to be most of the time.

It's completely possible that I'm just dumb. I think we should go with that ^.^

You're probably tone deaf.

Mynd does a commentary on VEAS episode 1

To reply to a few on the points made, I wasn't a fan of 'the what now?' until the last one which sort of made the other two not really good ones totally worth it for the last one which was hilarious and excellently timed. I also think it could have been done to go effect in episode two with Van, to go along with the parallel of the 'Where am I? Who are you? what planet is this? Why do we drive on parkways and park on driveways...' If Van had been the one to go 'The what now?' just to complete that whole symmetrical thing that was set up there. Ah well, hind sight.

Hey, I was only kidding, no need to take it personally

It seems that some scandalous tapes about Kaiba have surfaced over the internet.

Rather hilarious issues to be had. Who knew that Kaiba had such insecurities about Yugi's way of being a duelist? Answer? Probably everybody. Nice short enjoyable video here.

'twas enjoyable. Quite clever.

I liked the part where Kaiba said that one thing to Yugi, and then Yugi said that one thing to Kaiba. Priceless ^.^

In all seriousness, though, I liked it.

I really enjoyed the finale of JJBATAS and I also agree with HBi's statement for his type of humor. The only thing I notice was some of the music was a bit loud but otherwise it continued that great flow like he always has. As for LK's new video, came out of nowhere, but I knew what he was ref from. Very funny but still random lol

Here's a fun article I wrote on why Ruby and Jade from Sofia The First are good characters.
Okay hear me out, Isn't it kind of crazy how CN never thought about doing a Kids Next Door x Teen Titans OG crossover back in the 2000s? There's five members of Sector V, five titans, and they both have super cool HQs. I'm telling you guys, a TT and KND crossover would've been so epic!
Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
