“Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) and Sony Network Entertainment International (SNEI, the company) will today begin a phased restoration by region of PlayStation Network and Qriocity services. The phased restoration will be on a country by country basis beginning in the Americas, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and the Middle East.
The first phase of restored services for North America and Europe will include:
Sign-in for PlayStation Network and Qriocity services, including the resetting of passwords.
Restoration of online gameplay across PlayStation 3 and PSP.
Playback rental video content, if within rental period, of PlayStation Store Video Store on PS3, PSP and Media Go.
Q Music Unlimited, for current subscribers, on PS3 and PC.
Access to third party services such as VidZone and MUBI.
‘Friends’ category on PS3, including Friends List, Chat Functionality, Trophy Comparison, etc.
PlayStation Home.”
Here it is, along with reports that PSN might be back for some developers. Especially since news came that From Software was having problems in making the PS3 version of Dark Souls because PSN is down. This is fantastic news. If true, then it means I decided to activate that Rift trial for nothing lol! I got bored not being able to play online. The firmware update is definitely one giant step forward. I'm installing the update right now.
Also if anybody even cares at this point, Bloomberg reported yesterday that the hackers behind the PSN hack used the Amazon EC2 service to do so. I don't have the link to the story, but it's there. I promise!
Finally managed to update mine. Had to download and install the system update quickly a few hours ago because my dad was using the living room TV (where the PS3 resides as "Blu-ray player" and nothing more) and had to complete the process until several minutes ago. Although typing in the new password with the Blu-ray remote was a pain, I got it done and checked to see if PSN was back up. Played one round of 3-player Tetris online and won it.Yeah, my friend and my brothers were able to update and log in a few hours ago. I had to call them and tell them and they sounded like they just won a million dollars or something.
I also really appreciate the video Kaz released. I was pretty skeptical of how Sony handled the issue in the beginning, but it seems like they're not even hiding the fact that they messed up. A humbling experience i suppose.
