"Toonami" News & Discussion Thread

It appears that Adult Swim decided to acquire the streaming rights for Samurai 7. The video schedule updated and it shows that they're adding Samurai 7 episodes to Adult Swim Gold weekly along with Casshern Sins, beginning with episode 3, "The Entertainer." It also looks like the first two episodes will be posted on Adult Swim Video for everyone to see on September 1st.

I want to repeat something here:

If they could have gotten something else new instead of Casshern Sins, Samurai 7 and Eureka Seven (like say, Tiger & Bunny instead of ANY of those), We would probably have had Toonami coming back with an all AS anime repeats lineup besides for new Bleach and Deadman Wonderland. and then maybe Tiger & Bunny coming in to replace Deadman's slot. However in that case they'd probably be rerunning Deadman right now. I would rather have this variety of different shows that we have had and have right now instead of just New Bleach and another new anime at any one given time. And in that case people would probably have still been complaining about the obvious inclusion of stuff like Big O or Inuyasha or Durarara or something and no "classics" and "I don't care about this one new show" Not that ANYTHING is going to make everyone happy.

So, Dragoncon's Toonami panel is tomorrow and the person hosting the panel, Chad Bonin, tweeted this:

It seems @lheiskell knows all the future FUNi shows headed to Toonami…

Lance Heiskell (@lheiskell) is the Strategy Director for FUNimation, by the way.

YES! Toonami is getting some new life.

Interesting. In that case I would say it's very likely Future Diary will be replacing Casshern Sins if the Australian release early next year really will have the dub.

That's awesome news. Maybe they'll be able to afford some of the more recent shows that Funimation has worked on. Regardless, it's nice to see that they do have some more shows planned for the block.

Can anyone at DragonCon tell us what happened at the Toonami panel?

I've heard rumors.

Index rumors...

Probably not true though.

Yeah there's Index rumors floating around. Mostly that it could be coming in November.

Jason DeMarco tweeted that there's going to be a Bleach "catch up" promo tonight. Hopefully that'll help boost the ratings.

Index rumors? I've been searching but can't find any. Link to where they're floating?

I sincerly doubt Index is coming. If it were coming it would have replaced Sins instead of Samurai 7. Index's DVD release will be coming around that time so it would make zero sense to start airing the show then since that would effectively be ratings suicide. It's much more likely to be a show who's release date we don't already know like Future Diary or Guilty Crown(really hoping it's not the latter even if it would fit).

Hell I would watch Guilty Crown on Toonami even if it wasn't the greatest anime ever. I would hope they wouldn't dub the inset songs tho.

The rumors come out of Dragoncon, but I don't have anything definitive.

At this point it looks like VIZ's Bleach is a legacy choice of TOONAMI & the general direction is all FUNIMATION. They are the odds on favorite to land both Bebop & GitS once Bandai finishes closing it's doors on distribution of those two titles later this year. I guess that means IY:FA is not coming to TOONAMI.

Jason DeMarco tweeted that Eureka Seven will be able to finish its run on Toonami regardless of what happens to Bandai, but he's not sure if it'll affect the block itself in any way.

Oh, you guys knew about the Dragon*Con Toonami panel? I was there. DeMarco was supposed to be there but I think Bonin said he was too late of an addition. The panel was fun and the tweet from a few days ago about how Lance knows everything that will be on Toonami in the foreseeable future. The panel was really nothing more than the history of Toonami with a lot of the bumps. Majorly informative. My friend recorded it all and should be posting a video soon.
