GXP is actually doing worse than Samurai 7.
GXP's avg is beating what S7 avg'd in the slot before it moved though I agree S7 probably beat GXP in m18-24/m18-34. But that's only part of the story. S7 had proven to sponsors what it could do in the prior weeks & it's ad support had weaken. The ITT & 1-800 pool ads are much longer & boring which makes it harder to retain viewers over the ad space. I have no doubt, TOONAMI would prefer to sell some of that space to more national sponsors with 20-30 sec ads. Don't forget GXP is something of an experiment. Targeting a rom/com sci-fi at 12:30a was sure to be risky. The main reason for doing so is a tradeoff. They were looking to make the block less dependant on Bleach viewers with a 180 alternative. I don't believe there was any expectation of keeping it there. The hope is that the non-Bleach viewers that tuned in will now follow it to 1a. Uncut Naruto could surprise with a pickup of non-Bleach viewers as well.

In catching up on Bleach I noticed they succeeded in attracting girl centric sponsors for GXP. Because of [as] unique break format, the sponsors for GXP both lead into the show & fill the mid-break. Pantene shampoo for women was one that caught my eye leading into GXP. Again, this just makes good $ sense to me. With Sat being such a tough draw for adult viewers of any sex & SNL making that even worse, TOONAMI should be targeting sponsors who see added value in a particular show over those just looking to blanket the network with ads targeting 18-24/18-34m. LEGO toy ads also caught my eye as not fitting the major demog target of [as].

It has nothing to do with b2b airings vs single ep. You can't expect something airing at 3a/4a/5a to routinely beat something at 1a/2a. The ratings for FmA:B, CB, & IY have been solid especially given that the 2nd ep has been picking up more viewers than the 1st for these now & then.

All I meant to saw was that recently the second airings of Brotherhood, Bebop and InuYasha has beat the first airing more times than the other way around. That was really all there was to that post. As simple as it gets. I too think they've had solid ratings.

I guess I should have been more specific in what I meant when I said that. Samurai 7's last few numbers in the 12:30am slot were better than what GXP has managed to get in the slot so far, that's what I based my saying on. I agree that having uncut Naruto could surprise us. I think it could potentially draw in a new fanbase to Toonami.

But it's all relative to Bleach. Surprisingly, S7's last 3 wks at 12:30a avg'd 79% of what Bleach drew & GXP over the first 3 wks has avg'd 78%. The 2nd ep of GXP was easily the best so far & it retained nearly 82% of Bleach viewers. The most recent high of S7 was slightly below that. That bodes well for GXP lifting the 1a slot with Naruto as it's lead.

So this week wasn't a very good week. Tenchi's losing a lot of viewers, and disappointingly so is Samurai 7 (how'd it go from pretty consistently in the 700,000-900,000 range at 12:30 to consistently losing to Thundercats at 1:00?). Was there a lot of competition this week? I wouldn't freak out given that we know their standards of success are really low, but I'm hoping Naruto gives the ratings a huge boost.

Yeah, there was a major drop after Tenchi GXP.
I don't wanna lay any blame, but the rest of the evening got seriously hurt after 1 AM.

Yikes, Tenchi Muyo! GXP almost lost half the viewers Bleach had. I know that it was Thanksgiving weekend and all, but GXP and Samurai 7 should've done better. Thundercats and Sym-Bionic Titan are doing pretty well. I can see why they want to keep Thundercats at 1:30AM. Maybe Samurai 7 will do better at 2AM, benefiting from Thundercats. Eureka Seven didn't do that well, but Sym-Bionic Titan should do better in its time slot this week. I'm kind of surprised that both airings of Cowboy Bebop and InuYasha beat Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. I wonder what happened there.

Wow. That's a serious drop after Bleach. This is one reason why I think picking GXP was a terrible mistake. It just isn't attracting a good amount of ratings for the block and putting it right after Bleach was another bad choice. All it's doing is causing a significant drop in ratings. At least Samurai 7 was doing better in that slot for a few weeks before it came to the block. Thundercats and Sym-Bionic Titan did pretty well, so I can understand keeping Thundercats at the same timeslot. While Samurai 7 might be able to get better ratings after Thundercats, I still think it would make more sense to put it at 1AM instead of 2AM. At least it was doing well in ratings before GXP came to the block. Given Eureka 7's ratings, it's more reasonable to put it at 3AM, although I'll have to watch the series through Hulu for the time being instead of watching it on the block.

....Yikes, Tenchi just caused one heck of a tremendous rating drop for holding down that 12:30am slot. I'm already getting the vibe that it might even be pushed down beyond 2am if it continues to bring out these negatives at its new time slot.

I can see why Macattack is not very fond of this show now.

Eew. That's disgusting to see Tenchi Muyo! GXP perform like that.

I just don't see why they pushed Samurai 7 that late. An action show should lead into another action show.

9p VB 741, FG 1253, FG 1857, Clev 1881, Boon 1436+1444. It's foolish to suggest a trend based on #'s over one of the most traveled weekends of the year. Turkey Day & Christmas are the two biggest family get together days of the year & that greatly disrupts routine viewing. If anything it confirms the female support that GXP is getting as they are less likely to watch over such a weekend than males are.

Wow. That's a serious drop after Bleach.
Boon lost 24% from Clev, Bleach lost 26% from Boon, GXP lost 38% from Bleach, S7 lost 16% from GXP, TCats gained 20% over S7, & S-BT lost 9% from TCats. E7 lost 24% from S-BT & this one seems to have hurt the most because those viewers appear to have gone to WWE AM Raw on USA. Sunday Cable Ratings: ‘The Walking Dead’ Dominates Night, ‘Soul Train Awards’, ‘Liz & Dick’, ‘Dexter’, ‘Homeland’, ‘Boardwalk Empire’ & More - Ratings | TVbytheNumbers WWE AM Raw (USA) 2am 916k 0.31 a18-49. That has to be one of the best rated ep of this for the year & S-BT did not take the brunt of that. It drew some from Baggage on GSN as well. GSN 11:3p Harvey FF 341, Newlywed 295+270, Baggage 277*2, 2a Baggage 196+163. 3a DogEatDog 141. If there was anything strange like a signal outage, ESPN ratings would indicate it. Unfortunately they aren't available at sotb right now. Again, the only conclusion that one should draw from this is that it's foolish of TOONAMI to air routine programming over a holiday weekend. Even the CW was smart enough to give Arrow & Supernatural a break that week. TOONAMI would've been better served by movies.

Eew. That's disgusting to see Tenchi Muyo! GXP perform like that.
http://sonofthebronx.blogspot.com/2012/11/espn-espn2-and-espnu-ratings-november_30.htmlESPN avg'd a little over 3m until 10:47pm & then avg'd about 1.25m for the next 2 hrs. The prior Sat it avg'd 3.3m until 11:30pm & then avg'd 1.87m for the next 2 hrs. Clearly adults have less interest in sports news & animated action over Thanksgiving weekend. It's more of an aberation on ratings than anything else. As for USA's 2a AM RAW bump, ESPN drew 983k then the wk before & 843 this past Sat. I guess viewers of AM Raw hate their families :)

It could also be that not many people like Tenchi Muyo! GXP and decided to stop watching. Look at the reaction towards the show coming to Toonami, it was mostly negative.

Even with this being Thanksgiving weekend, that's still a pretty bad drop after Bleach, especially when Bleach seemed to do pretty much normal with its ratings. It just looks more like people aren't interested in GXP, which wouldn't surprise me considering how it doesn't really fit on the block or looks to be any good for that matter.

Now you know why I went berserk when the pickup was announced. It's already doing worse than Eureka Seven ever did at its original timeslot of 1:30. Just as I expected. It just does not hold up well. I know quality is relative, but I honestly think the show sucks.

Bleach seemed to do pretty much normal with its ratings.
A 26% drop from Boondocks is anything but normal. The ESPN ratings for that night confirm Bleach's drop of 26% & GXP's drop of 38% was mostly due to a major family holiday weekend.

With Naruto taking over 12:30a it's time to turn the page. Naruto is by far a bigger chick magnet than Bleach so I think it's possible it could break the 1m mark Sat. That drawing power should lift GXP. I won't be surprised if GXP loses less than 1/5th of Naruto. Even with no Bleach premiere, Naruto could lift Bleach as well to where it loses less than 1/6th of Boon.

It could also be that not many people like Tenchi Muyo! GXP and decided to stop watching.
Over-react much? The prior Sat Bleach lost 11% of Boon viewers. The last Sat it lost 26%. GXP had been avg'g a loss of 22% from Bleach so add the difference & you get 37%.

It really doesn't surprise me at all that GXP isn't doing so well. It had nothing going for it.

It doesn't seem to have a really big fanbase like Bleach or Thundercats, the animation, IMO, isn't as good as Samurai 7 or Eureka 7, and when it was announced for Toonami, almost all the comments were things like "Wut is this?" or "Looks boring. Not watching".

Anyway, I think Naruto should bring back some of the ratings.

Neither did the Lucky 7's (S7 & E7) and their ratings have proven that. I doubt very much DeMarco is making these decisions on his own. Funimation is certainly involved in this & they share as much blame in the choices as DeMarco does. I imagine VIZ was laughing behind Funi's back & now they've upped the ante with uncut Naruto following Bleach. It's just a matter of time before we see uncut DBZ in the lineup.
