Does Nickelodeon Deserve the Hate it gets?

My mom says that I should ignore such people. But I my gut tells me disagree. I've got to defend myself and smite such people for their hypocrisy.

Such people make me want to stop watching nick because being a fan hurts me because of such awful, terrible, stupid people.

Honestly, it sounds like a waste of energy to get that upset over what people are saying about Nick, especially when a good portion of those people bashing the channel probably have uninformed opinions about the new shows and/or blinded by nostalgia. If you go around with the intent to smite people for their opinions, that isn't going to make them change their opinions. Like I said before, you can't force someone to change their opinions anyway. Plus, if you act like you're superior to them because of your opinion, all that's going to do is make them upset, hurt people's feelings and make them more defensive about their opinions. I've dealt with people who acted like that they're right and I'm wrong when it comes to opinions over shows and other things that would be subjective. They'd basically act like their opinions are facts and they tend to bully people for having different opinions. Don't be like those people. People can dislike Nick and their recent shows without bashing them and without being blinded by nostalgia.

I can understand the negativity being overwhelming/bothersome, but I don't think that it should prevent you from watching Nick. If you really like the channel and enjoy the new programs, then that should be the only thing that matters when it comes to whether or not you want to stop watching the channel.

I just want Rugrats to be brought back and thats not a nostalgia filter thing. I'm ticked how Spongebob has now lasted longer than Rugrats did because imo Rugrats has always been better than Spongebob. Better writing, Better characters. That's nothing to do with Nostalgia. I mean one of the creators a year or so ago said she would still like to make more Rugrats. So obviously, Nickelodeon just isn't interested. and yet they keep pumping out Spongebob. I know it get's good ratings but who knows what kind of ratings Rugrats would be getting if they put out new episodes.

They won't take the risk getting a pretty sure thing with SpongeBob.

If they brought the Rugrats back, it'd just end-up being as bad as SpongeBob and Fairly OddParents

The show was already loosing steam by the time it ended, so it really was an act of mercy.

For all I know Spongebob and FOP are a pale shadow of their former self, but I think Sanjay and Craig and Rabbids Invasion are the best they got. Not saying much because I'd still rather watch CN which has 4 or 5 good shows or DC. However I still enjoy both RI and SjC. Although their best show in my opinion, Korra is missing. Breadwinners had a few good episodes, but watching a few of the more recent episodes, it's starting to have the typical problems that modern Nicktoons have. It looks more and more like another annoying idiot hero protagonist show from Nick. The live-action on the other hand looks perfectly fine, and works well for them. Too bad for Sam and Cat though.

All in all, many of their new shows are overhated via nostalgia(so my answer would be no) but I'm not going to dismiss any hate about Spongebob, Fairly Odd Parents and attempts to emulate both shows. Seeing the amount of lazy writing and how much the network relies on them.

Possibly. And of course if they went back to being babies...All Grown Up would just have been in the future. The later seasons of Rugrats were among my favorites. Helps that Kimi and Kira are two of my favorite characters. My favorite seasons of Rugrats were the first 3 seasons and the last 3 seasons. The middle 3 seasons were Meh. imo.

I do see your point. Ratings wise...I don't think they would do close to Spongebob if they aired new Rugrats episodes. So maybe as far as ratings...It was an act of mercy. But quality wise. I still enjoyed it.

Talking to the voice actress of Kira...there were All Grown Up episodes she did voice acting for that have never been aired and obviously won't be aired.

After watching the premiere of Clarence on Cartoon Network, I still have to agree that Nickelodeon deserves the flack that it's getting. Clarence literally blew SJC out of the water with just that 1st episode, and while I know the two shows aren't close to parallels of each other, they do share their similarities. Seeing CN pull it together quality wise, and seeing Nickelodeon not offer anything of similar quality on the whole, I have to still say that Nickelodeon deserves the hate it gets.

Something about the other networks makes them more appealing to new cartoonists. I think Nickelodeon's business model lacks flexibility. I can't speak for people in the animation business because I've never been a part of it, but I've always heard in the years past that Nickelodeon was the job cartoonists strive for... but now? It's good for getting your foot in the door as a low level staff, hopefully getting the work experience and connections to springboard yourself to your own project on a rival network like various people did from Spongebob and FOP, but if you are actually planning on making a cartoon for them there is just too much hair pulling. The network has stricter censors, meddlesome execs, and while there is a degree more "prestige" to working for Nickelodeon and a wider audience for your cartoon, it is ultimately destined to be another undercard lead in for Spongebob if its lucky. So, its not surprise people are seeking greener pastures to CN, lately its a more forgiving benefactor than Nick or Disney.

I dunno, to me, I think Nick is the lesser of two evils when it comes to its rivalry with CN. CN had recently released a video of their creators talking about what inspires them and all that, making the place look like a Creative Person's nirvana. To me this seems a bit misleading because many of their original shows nowadays are the 'random, goofy boy comedies'. Very little serialized shows, virtually NO action shows, and NO female protagonists. Basically, it seemed like if your idea fit those standards, THEN you'd have creative control. With Nick, on top of their typical not-so-smart protagonist-shows, you have the Spring-flinging Legend of Korra, and the merchandise powerhouse TMNT. Serialization, action-driven, AND a female protagonist brought in with those two shows. Versus CN's ENTIRE current original lineup. So to answer the question, YES, Nick IS receiving more hate than it deserves. While it certainly isn't PERFECT, it's giving viewers at least a COUPLE of different programming options in comparison to the other two networks.

@Darissa

You do realize that Korra only got greenlit because it's a sequel to the Last Airbender, right?

And TMNT got greenlight because it's an evergreen brand they bought.

Hard not to feel the bias here for those who are hard core fans of shows like SBSP/FOP and have seen the quality drop dramatically - although I do feel like SBSP is getting back on track and not as crude/idiotic/pointless as seasons 6, 7 and 8-ish. Should it continue? I'm indifferent, but it's not as bad as before.

With that said, I have to agree that Nick has more diversity on their animation now then before. So to say Nick hasn't changed or slightly improved in that area is pretty biased. Do they utilize their new shows as much as they should? Not yet. But there's more diversity and overall quality now in SBSP-FOP-LoK-TMNT-SJC-RI-BW, then there was with SBSP-FOP-PoM-PS-FBaCC-KFP-TP-RaM. And I think Bad Seeds and Pig Goat Banana Cricket are gonna be another two break though hits for the network. And regardless of why LoK and TMNT were picked up, the point is THEY WERE PICKED UP. And Nick has invested a ton in TMNT - merchandise, clothes, toys, games, three seasons, a live action movie. I mean, we may not see it a whole lot on TV, but Nick has obviously taken care of TMNT overall.

Now, Disney has shipped off WoY and GF to Disney XD and put PaF on permanent hiatus. They only air PaF/FH during the 5 a.m. hour and that's it for their animation. Sorry, that's pretty horrible by Disney because GF was golden, PaF was still quality, WoY had potential to grow, and they let FH burn out with no push. Edge to Nick on the animation end obviously because Disney has dropped it.

For CN, they obviously have a much wider range animation shows, so diversity clearly on their side, BUT all of their new ORIGINALS like SU and UG - and to a lesser extent Clarence, are tweaked versions of RS and AT. It all appeals to one specific demo and that's boys 6-11 and 9-14, and also CN knows these shows appeal to adults (which is a point I'll get to soon). There's less diversity in CN's top five originals (AT/RS/SU/UG/Clarence) than Nick's top five (SBSP/SJC/TMNT/RI/BW) IMO, but I'd still give a slight quality edge to CN. Unfortunately, Nick will always triple CN in ratings so it's kinna moot if you think which network has the top-rated shows.

I hate to say this, but the truth behind CN is it's become less important to Turner than Adult Swim, which is one of the top-rated "networks" their company has. That's what shines with ratings and target demos. SO, with that said, all of the prime CN shows are, IMO, feeder shows for boys who will eventually transition into AS one day, and for adults who may find enjoyment in watching kids cartoons with mature/cultured dialogue and satirical humor. Which explains why CN's top cartoons are the way they are/ I may get so much flack for saying this, but it's true. AS is more important than CN and I think Turner has given up in competing head-to-head with Nick on the overall K2-11 spectrum, and rather find a distinct demo (boys 6-11/9-14) to target and then lure into AS - the money maker. That's basically all Turner talks about CN in PRs. I'm not hating on CN or calling that out, it's just how I see it and it's actually a smart move when considering AS makes more money.

Where as Nick, there's no end goal for their network aside from K2-5 and K2-11. Everything they've done recently to "improve" the network is literally to secure K2-5 and K2-11 and as Viacom's most lucrative network, they obviously want the network and its shows to succeed for the purpose of nabbing those target viewers and merchanside. I guess the live action shows could be considered transitions to MTV, but it's not as edgy or mature as they used to be, when you look at iCarly/Victorious/Zoey101 compared to SaC/THH/TTM and what Nick is moving forward. They TARGET kids. And like I said, IMO, CN TARGETS boys to bring into AS. Hence, a distinct difference in what their most promoted shows have. Nick is excelling in their demos. And CN is as well.

Anyway, just some random nonsense on a holiday that I have some time to rant.

My point, is no network is perfect. And for Nick, I think they are doing what's best for their target K2-11 and their secondary K2-5. It reflects in their overall ratings and demos. And with each network so pin point on what they want the network to be for, it completely changes the scopes of how to compare them IMO. Although I suppose I'm one of the few that sees it that way.

It's interesting, the Kim Possible creators were hired back by Disney for some unnamed project. So you would think they were not as bad with animation as they are. All this makes me wonder why Disney brought Bob and Mark back when it seems they don't care about Animation anymore.

Actually, I think you may be on to something. It would certainly explain why Turner keeps giving more air time to Adult Swim, as well as why Cartoon Network's spectrum of late has become so narrow. It really doesn't seem like they're trying to keep up with Nick, Disney and The Hub anymore. It truly seems like the CN of today is just training ground for the dude-bros who will one day become Adult Swim's audience.

The Mickey Mouse shorts going viral must have been the Television Animation studio heads' get-out-of-jail-free card.

I get what you say about diversity but despite that the "Random boy humor" genre has a lot of substance to them, the substance that you usually find in a serious action show. Regular show has some greatcharacter development turning the main cast from co workers who barely can stand each other to a rag tag group of misfits who are family to each other and have interesting character backstories. Adventure Time tackles dark themes such as Autism, Identity & Depression, Spously Abuse, Sacrifice, and Destiny. It treats morality Dungeons and Dragons Style with numerous characters doing questionable choices whether it be for the greater good or just because the darkest choice was the easiest or doesn't take too much time. Hell one of the major characters went from a quirky but compentent princess to an pragmatic lawful Neutral mad scientist who would do anything to keep her kingdom safe. Not to mention the world building that is in the form of lore, background, religon, and current events. And Clarence us shaping up to be the love child between Ed edd eddy and Hey Arnold. And while Nick does have Acrion Cartoons there are still 2 of them and aren't really the creme de la creme of action cartoons. I love TMNT 2k12 but they use too much mutants for their own good ( seriously there was no purpose turning Xever and Bradford into mutants and what they did to Klunk really pissed me off) and Korra is well I wrote to much already.
So is CN the epitome of a creative hud and still has good as they were from the early 2000s Hell no, is Nick pushing diversity and trying to not use Spongebob as a crutch and should't receive as much hate as they do Hell yes but lets face it diversity means crap if 80% of your shows are the same genre and your action shows can't back it up quality wise and are a paper tiger

in other words, diversity is worthless if the quality isn't there

and as I said before, I don't hate the new Nick shows, but they just aren't as good as those on CN

Is it really worthless when Nick owns the top five animated shows in their TARGET demographic of K2-11. I mean, they are a KIDS network and if they own the top five, isn't the quality enough for who matters to Nick? Sorry man, what we think doesn't matter to Nick and if quality was so bad to those who mattered to the network, then of course things would be different.

I'm sorry but Steven universe is more of a show that would targets girls than Legends of Korra does, While Steven is the main main character, it's the Gems that make the show really good and even the animation looks like it would appeal to girls than to boys.LOK on the other hand, it's main character has been awful last season and really it's Tenzin and his family that makes the show worth watching.

Okay, so I found out that Sailor Moon had meet and greets at Universal Studios back in May. It would have been so cool if we had that at the turn of the century. I have gotten hugs from a Sailor Moon and a Sailor Mars at a local con back in the 2010s and spent under $100 doing it, so I don't know if this is worth the splurge but I can see that these affluent geeky people are enjoying their Sailor Moon hugs.
The characters from Netflix's Mating Season apparently were born from the same deeps as the Warner Bros cartoon characters
