It's FTA and the only STAR channel on the market. There are no other STAR channels like you thought.

Yeah, I think at one point in 2024?
So Italy did skip it, as Hearst turned our C+I into Sky Crime in 2023. The current C+I pres is nice, it does play with the plus sign in the logo.

Curious, is just C+I in SD in Romania or more channels happen to take this (not so good) choice? Perhaps they see no incentive to up their visual quality.

There are more that broadcast in SD only: Nat Geo People, Top Shop TV, AXN's channels, etc.

If not wrong, in Italy, the only channel I can think without a ìn HD version that isn't one of those useless channels by Gold TV, Canale Italia, Publirose and stuff is Super! and that's closing down. (T-Thanks Paramount...)

Even Super! I believe is available somewhere in HD, though, at least on Stream.

But yes, for channels still broadcasting in SD there are either money issues, or lack of incentive for total HD broadcasts, as the case of the UK and Germany (even more for Germany): in the UK because Freeview and Sky on Satellite are not invested (space constraints, too) and because of a heavy Streaming influence (however, Freely and Sky Stream/Glass are a different story), Germany because HD+ incredibly still exists (!).

All in all, France is the most balanced and planned of all for HD brodcasts, either on TNT or elsewhere.

Speaking of Freely, over here we really lack something like that.

A lot of channels here have both SD and HD versions in the package lists, for some reason. If they could keep only the HD versions, there would be more space for more channels.

I knew of the Sky Stream-only HD channels (The DeAgostini kids channels, the Nickelodeon channels and Comedy Central), didn't knew Super! was under the same page. Still, it stuck like a sore thumb on Tivusat, even the RAI kids channels and the DIscovery kids channels gained those!

(Also, talking of Gold TV, I think Alma TV does have an HD version. Or, at least, they tested that at one point?)

All channels over here are now in HD. Thankfully there are no more SD and HD channels together. My cable company finally decided to completely ditch traditional cable and the support on old boxes are gone for months now. They are actually now forcing people to get the streaming box only which has been a thing since 2022.

No, I just edited my post since they ditched tradional cable altogether with streaming boxes now available.

Vodafone "kinda" does that in RO, but classic set top boxes are still offered by Orange and Digi.
