"Release Date For Pixar’s Gatto Moved Up Three Months"

"Usually, when you hear about date changes for movies, it’s about a delay. Isn’t it nice on those rare occasions when it turns out to be an “undelay” — the release date is moved UP instead of BACK?

Gatto, Pixat’s latest original concept, was announced last June at the Annecy Animation Festival for a release date of June 18, 2027. It has now been moved up three months to March 5, 2027. No reason was given for the shift, but production must be ahead of schedule.

Gatto is the tale of a black cat in Venice with a lack of luck. You see, in Italy even the cats are mixed up in organized crime, and Nero, the “gatto” of the story, is in debt to a feline mob boss and looking for a place to hide. He’s got a passion for music, so he’s allured to the melodies of Maya, a Venice street musician. Nero and Maya form a tight friendship, which they’ll need to deal with Nero’s problems."

So a musical cat crime drama? Pixar is really venturing out :p.

There's a rumor going around that Mark Ruffalo will voice the main character. Though the only source I saw cited is a nearly 3 hours long YouTube video in another language, so I'd wait until something more official comes out.

I feel like he would be pretty fun in the role, if it's him :).

The art style in the teaser image isn't concept art, but reflective of the art style of the final movie

So far, the Disney-owned studios have resisted the Painted CGI aesthetic like the plague, so this will be interesting to see.

I figured Pixar had more creative freedom than WDAS which are pretty much stuck in their adorkable female protagonist phase.

The 3D modeled/hand-drawn painted overlay approach is pretty fitting for a studio like Pixar. Pretty ironic when you think about it: Pixar going from the one pushing 3D animation with new technology to returning to 2D to differentiate itself once again.

"First Teaser For Pixar’s Gatto Released"

GATTO-teaser-frame-1_rgb.jpg

"When Toy Story 5 is released on June 19 (that’s the Friday after next), you’ll get a sneak preview of Pixar’s next animated feature, Gatto…but thanks to the magic of the Internet, you don’t have to wait that long. It’s live now!

This teaser answers a question people have had about the movie for months…its art style. Gatto was originally announced with a painted poster image of the title character on the streets of Venice, and it was assumed to be a production sketch until someone connected to the project said the movie really looked like that. With this teaser, we can confirm that it does. Even though it takes place in the dark, it’s clearly rendered to look scratchy and rough, like an Italian painting come to life.

Gatto is directed by Enrico Casarosa and produced by Andrea Warren, who were both behind Pixar’s previous feature Luca…also set in Italy. Their new yarn is about a black cat in Venice with a lack of luck. Nero, the “gatto” of the story, is in debt to feline mob boss Rocco and looking for a place to hide. He’s got a passion for music, so he’s allured to the melodies of Maya, a Venice street musician. Nero and Maya form a tight friendship, which they’ll need to deal with Nero’s problems."

Finally. No more Bob Iger meddling with Pixar originals.

Okay hear me out, Isn't it kind of crazy how CN never thought about doing a Kids Next Door x Teen Titans OG crossover back in the 2000s? There's five members of Sector V, five titans, and they both have super cool HQs. I'm telling you guys, a TT and KND crossover would've been so epic!
Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
@Sam the Cartoonist is right, I've registered on this site two times and I've enjoyed it! :) I'd posted this back in 2016, over ten years ago!
