Thank you for waiting. Today marks the 12th anniversary of Darwin the Merman and here's a celebratory drawing of the three main characters.

The old version of the OC was replaced in line with my eleventh anniversary on this forum.

This is not the finalized version. The former one was attached to the style of Darwin the Merman, and I didn't feel satisfied over the result over time, as it became too oversimplified or easy to draw. This new style is more natural, but there are some things to review. The hairdo is not finalized, and is subject to change. The eyes were changed from blueish-green to blue because that's literally my real eye color. The tailfin has the same shade of blue Bloo uses. Aside from that, there will be some new characters set for 2024.

OK, technically Darwin as an immortal is kinda like a demigod, but in my canon, few are those who have a human form (see the Farleys and the Miller
Having a human form before becoming a merman is justified only if the subject was born human but had strange connections to the merworld by sheer luck and coincidence. Darwin was already born a merman, so take it as an AU. Don't give him Freshy or else he'll be in bed for a week.

Both are from DBS, the royal broadcaster (equivalent of a state broadcaster in the merworld. Private broadcasting here means "media outlets not owned by kings")

For the 50th anniversary of Jaws (the movie), I'd like to present his lesser-known cousin: Bearjaws.

Darwin's new buddy Anoroth. He lives in a sparsely populated barbarian kingdom in Shuiana. He's also aware of humans who came from Earth and brought their culture. His girlfriend is a female barbarian who is unlike the other few girls who live there. Human-merworld interests include swimming, plsying video games, updated slang and highly sugary root beer, as he is OK with sweets.

The character was partly influenced by Fangbone, a series I'll get a second chance soon.

Another birthday in the books, that of Darwin the Merman! 14 years ago, I created him while dreaming. The idea didn't gain more apex until the following day.

Today is the day SpongeBob fries up! In another timeline, Darwin the Merman was a show on Cartoon Network and competed against SpongeBob, so it's pretty obvious that the two settings are known for their misunderstandings.

25 years since Nick USA aired The Fairly OddParents for the first time. I discovered the show in the fall of 2003 through RealONE Arcade (RealArcade, remember that?), they had a jigsaw game with images supplied by Nickelodeon. We didn't have the channel back then. In January 2004, I was channel surfing and Canal Panda - the channel I used mainly to watch Doraemon (I was a CN guy) - was airing the show dubbed in Portuguese. 6pm. Os Meus Padrinhos São Mágicos. I got glued to it. Then I got pissed when they scrubbed the show from the schedule in June, but then it returned, you get the idea.

I later saw a new, better dub on Nickelodeon, that encompassed all seasons, the dub was fantastic, it did have its flaws but still, even I watched it grow and fall with useless episodes and useless plot devices that made the show lose its charm. I will admit, even I was a fool to watch the newer episodes when the show was on a downward spiral.

Watching the show in any language that I fully understand still gives me some comfort. It was the first Nick show I fully watched.

Another 4th of July came and went. The merworld observed the 4th of July, symbolically the 250th anniversary of the United States, for some it will be their last before moving to another planet (preferrably Shuiana), where at least the mermified will carry the torch of their birth culture alive, and keeping them at bay from surface world nonsense that also affects the merworld.

Bearing the flag is Kenny the Kartoonist, while merbears Banjo (from Banjo-Kazooie) and Rooty (from A&W Restaurants) join in. Since Banjo was born in Texas, he brought in a Texan flag. I should have drawn a Colorado one for Rooty, but then again he barely lived there.

I get it that the United States are in an uncomfortable position nowadays and this also affects the merworld. My own version of Rooty kinda represents the hypothetical American child in me, raised on a beverage as American as root beer (ironically I'm not interested in sodas lol) and having an American worldview. I was raised by Cartoon Network, and I was defaulted to that, so much so that I thought that the Fourth of July and Thanksgiving were truly global holidays lmao

And why are most merpeople leaving Earth? A lot of issues, climate nonsense, tensions between humans and merpeople, plastic, and that causes them to consider leaving and starting a new life in Shuiana mostly.

Anyway, I hope you guys enjoyed the Fourth of July this year.
