11/22 Schedule Update - Bleach marathons, Christmas specials

All I'm saying is it's unlikely. Nothing more, nothing less.

On the topic of New Years, am I the only one that misses stuff like the Bashingtons and other NYE content? I enjoyed that stuff quite a bit.

1) Megas XLR was considered too high budget for Adult Swim according to Jody and George. They could do super hero parodies or mecha shows on Adult Swim but they probably wouldn't do well enough or sell well enough to warrant what it would cost to produce the show. And who would even make it? Titmouse is booked up. Warner animation could do it and CN's Burbank studio could but they're not making shows for Adult Swim.
What about Radical Axis?

Sadly, since the downturn in 2008, doing those types of things doesn't seem to be worth their effort/money.
I would settle for another Christmas With Doom or some other host.

Main problem with Tiger and Bunny theory = no plans for DVD or dub. Seriously, Madoka Magica is dubbed, and Panty and Stocking is probably almost finished, but no news on Tiger and Bunny.

They don't have the budget to do something even remotely similar to Tiger & Bunny in-house. Or rather they wouldn't be willing to spend it. They're just looking for ratings with anime after all and more times than not it seems like they're just picking up what gets pitched to them. Is there any other explanation for why they got Kekkaishi than Viz pitched it well enough or offered them a good deal on it?

Venture Bros. does some super hero parodies but Tiger & Bunny isn't really that much of a super hero parody.

Best show to Adult Swim implies FLCL or Cowboy Bebop. While both have their monologue moments you wouldn't consider those slow and dialogue heavy would you?

Maybe adult swim themselves liked Kekkaishi also it's not like it tanked in the ratings. It did pretty well

Andrew's probably right that Kekkaishi was only picked up because it was pitched to them on the cheap, which while a bit more common when Adult Swim was getting movies and one shots (Remember that one really bad 30 minute OVA about the kids and the mask? Wasn't exactly Dead Leaves) is still done today on occasion. That and the rerun ratings have been consistently terrible as per Son of the Bronx.

Hey, Kakurenbo wasn't THAT bad. Maybe not PRIME [as] material but still..

What might be a bit more random than that in retrospect would probably be like...the Escaflowne movie..

I could see some weird logic in getting that movie. "We can't get the TV series after the Saban debacle on Fox Kids, so let's just grab the movie and call it a day.". Did come across random in the end, but there was at least some reasoning.

It's TV-MA, and with good reason.

It's worth noting that the Elite Video Subscription version --- the only one available on video right now --- is the unedited, overhyped "too hot for Japan" version FUNimation is marketing. The one they'd likely offer up to Adult Swim would be the Crunchyroll version.

Which would still be TV-MA, but probably passable for Adult Swim.

Sorry for the double post, but some new info: FUNimation did one of their chats and they seemed to have not heard anything about Adult Swim announcing they had two anime series picked up. So either they weren't prepared for any sort of announcement or they aren't their series. So Panty and Stocking's likelihood for now drops a little bit.

To me, it looks like the shows that were crossed out are Angel Beats and High School of the Dead
Chairwoman is obviously Kim.

Wasn't expecting Angel Beats of HSOD anyway. My money's still on PSG (I know, fanservice) and Steins;Gate

High School of the Dead has been airing on Anime Network and its affiliates for several months now. Even if it wasn't too awesome/obscene for Adult Swim Action (let's face it, Comedy's gotten away with worse) it's still being aired elsewhere.

I'm going with Stein's Gate. It's slow, it's very dialog heavy, and to a casual audience, it will be boring. All the reviews indicate such, ranging from OK to middling, but a lot of criticism of a snail's pace. As I've noted repeatedly, Adult Swim LOVES slow paced dialog heavy anime. Adores it.

MM, I don't remember the last time I saw you post here.

Good guesses if the actual names are crossed out. Though it's unusual for them to air shows from ADV/Sentai particularly because the two series they did air both bombed and it's also peculiar for them to go for two shows that have been on the market for about a year but maybe the ratings of DRR and FMA:B were satisfactory enough that they're not avoiding picking up shows that are already on the market.

My guesses of what's blurred out are Tiger & Bunny and Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, though fanservice is the least of the things PSG would get turned down for so High School of the Dead fits that description better.

If Adult Swim were to get anything from FUNimation that isn't PSG in 2012 I'd also expect Stein's Gate though Deadman Wonderland might have a chance. Though it still seems to me that Viz and AS are on the best terms so I'd still expect something from Viz before FUNi much less Sentai.

I don't think I've posted here since the Durarara announcement, but I still come by.

It could be that Sentai offered the rights for the two shows to AS for a cheap price (since they are already available on DVD like Durarara was), so they decided to pick them up. They've also got a good number of newly-licensed shows coming down the line, so it also serves to test the waters to see if they can get more of their anime on TV.

AB I have a hard time seeing do well, but HSotD fits the block more so that could pull in good ratings.

Ah, but even if High School of the Dead was the show in question, Evil Fueher Kim turned it down because of too much fanserivce and too much action, while a lame slice of of life show gets the go ahead.

If we end up with Stein's Gate and Angel Beats instead of High School of the Dead, then they'll have spelt out rather clearly that ASA will never change and never go outside of slow shows or shounen.

I believe Steins;gate is basically SF, which is something that hasn't been on the block since Ghost in the Shell. That could be a case for it as well as against it, though if I had to pick between the two I'd bet on Deadman Wonderland even though it's short.

In my mind what separates High School of the Dead from content like Master of Martial Hearts is better animation and zombies. That on TV anywhere? Good luck. But Anime Network streaming says very little about prospects. Durarara was online before it was ever picked up for Adult Swim.

Well, that, and completely different executions to the stories, different art styles, different characters...

Really, those two properties are nothing alike. The only common link is fanservice.

Here's a fun article I wrote on why Ruby and Jade from Sofia The First are good characters.
Okay hear me out, Isn't it kind of crazy how CN never thought about doing a Kids Next Door x Teen Titans OG crossover back in the 2000s? There's five members of Sector V, five titans, and they both have super cool HQs. I'm telling you guys, a TT and KND crossover would've been so epic!
Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
