Writer: David Pepose
Artist: Eman Casallos

Synopsis:

Earth. Fire. Wind. Water. Heart. With their powers combined, they summon Earth's greatest champion: Captain Planet. But they need to learn to trust each other first.

Gaia, the latest High Priestess of the Earth has been kidnapped! Our Planeteers are forced to come together against the newly formed might of Lucian Plunder! Even with Captain Planet on their side, will it be enough to save the very Earth itself?!?

Find out in Captain Planet #1 by writer David (Space Ghost) Pepose along with artist Eman Cassallos and cover artists: Mark Spears, Jae Lee (providing a connecting series of covers across the 1st 6 issues), Ben Oliver and Christian Ward!

A former crime reporter turned Ringo Award-winning comic book creator, David Pepose has written on hit titles such as Space Ghost, Punisher, Savage Avengers, Moon Knight: City of the Dead, Fantastic Four, Hulk, Avengers Unlimited, and Darth Vader: Black, White & Red, as well as acclaimed original series Spencer & Locke, Going to the Chapel, Grand Theft Astro, The O.Z., Scout's Honor, The Devil That Wears My Face, and more.

Captain Planet and the Planeteers, commonly referred to as simply Captain Planet, is an American animated environmentalist superhero television series produced by Turner Program Services and DIC Enterprises and broadcast on TBS and in syndication from September 15, 1990, to December 5, 1992.

That cover makes me curious. Is this just a completely different take on him? He doesn't look like the type to be making puns.

So far no. He still has the cadence of the cartoon. Only difference is he has a modern day hair do and facial hair. He even makes sure the mercs in the helicopters he defeats aren't harmed.

Basically a reboot set in the 2020s with the same Planeteers getting the rings from Gaia. Though it starts with Plunder's men invading Hope Island and nabbing Gaia but she sent the rings away in time. I think in the cartoon she just woke up from centuries long hibernation and saw what state the planet was in.

One thing is for sure, Mati is not playing around after getting his ring. I'm still not sure how I feel about that page. I'll see what he is like going forward. But I think he served as a good conscience for the group. Yes and over simplified one (so much about the show was over simplified). But I dont know what to make of him threatening a mine worker with wild animals.

I like how the Planeteers have been aged up (especially Linka) oh so slightly. Unfortunately, making Lucien "Looten" Plunder into Capt. Pollution is a giant mistake.

Is this book even still running? I don't see it hyped anywhere, not even Pepose comes up on my bluesky feed anymore

I think it stopped after #6. Guess sales weren't well and Dynamite didn't renew it for more issues.
