"Fate/Zero" Series Talkback

Yeah. As much as I love the series I am not about to shell out that much money for it. I don't really see this selling well so...I have to wonder why they are even doing it this way. Hopefully it eventually gets a dub (from FUNi preferably).

Yep, I figured as much. I just can't spend that much money on that. Damn.

Yeah. As much as I love the series I am not about to shell out that much money for it. I don't really see this selling well so...I have to wonder why they are even doing it this way. Hopefully it eventually gets a dub (from FUNi preferably).

I'd actually prefer Bang Zoom! do the dub, if only because they dubbed the original Fate/Stay Night. If it gets dubbed by Funimation, I hope they'll at least try to keep the voices consistent with the original dub and have Kate Higgins reprise her role as Saber or Jamieson Price as Kotomine

An issue is that Kate Higgins has gone union. Any dub that involves her will have to be at union wages. That costs quite a bit of money. Aniplex did pick up the union tab before with DRRR!! so there's precedent but I'm not holding my breath. Kate Higgins was killer as Saber so I hope she does reprise the role though. There's other VAs out there who can play Saber but I don't know if they could surpass Kate Higgins' performance . . . especially as Higgins had to contend with an overly verbose and clumsy dub script and make Saber's convoluted sentences sound convincing and natural and she did that.

I think Aniplex intends to keep Fate/ZERO in-house rather than license it out. This import release kinda proves that.

I hope that Kate Higgins, Jamieson Price, Grant George, Stephanie Sheh and Mela Lee will reprise their roles if this ever gets dubbed. Even though Saber's VA is union, I'm pretty sure the other VA's that were in the FSN dub that have that have a character make an appearence in Fate/Zero are non-union.

Well now, Aniplex...you're not going to make your mark in the R1 industry like this.

So, five hundred MSRP for half the series. Well, at least it'll have the best video transfer possible...probably.

If that sells then I'm concerned with what Aniplex can get people to buy. That's R2 type pricing and that should not ever become the norm in America.

Aniplex needs to cut this crap out.

Paying around 30 dollars an episode is absolutely insane. I don't care how nifty the extras and the packaging are. You could buy 2 modern consoles or a pretty decent computer for that price. Who has that kind of scratch for blowing on 13 episodes of a cartoon? Furthermore that's just half the series, there's theoretically another box for the same price for the second half.

Do they realize how many anime series you could buy in full on Blu-Ray for the same amount of money it would cost to buy just half of that series?

Half a series which is legally available to watch for free I might add.

How is that possibly worth the money even to a collector?

Sifting through the ANN talkback I actually see a few hands flying in the air to pick this up, actually. Apparently it's not even the first time they've dropped this on an import (which this technically is).

It's fascinating, really.

People will buy it. It's even likely to sell out. But the ones able to get it are only a fraction of the fanbase.

Cheap DVDs after this, I say, and the same for Garden of Sinners.

Gonna see episode 9 on Crunchyroll tomorrow & I read the recap already. This Lancer is soooo much more interesting than the Fate/Stay Night Lancer, who really wasn't much besides Archer's rival in that show (he was way cooler in Unlimited Blade Works, though).

Episode 10

While the episode was certainly great in every respect, I feel like a lot of its appeal is lost on me, having not seen Fate/stay night, as I understand an older Rin is a main character in that. As a little girl, she's definitely an extremely likeable character in many ways shown here. Even if she wasn't a little girl, I'd still have nothing but good things to say about her, but since she is, she's just that much more impressive. However, having an entire episode dedicated to her and very little actually dealing with the War and progressing it forward, or most of the participants and other main characters of this series, made me feel like I wish there was a little more of that. But again, I'm sure that if I had watched all of Fate/stay night and gotten to really like Rin, I'd be able to appreciate this episode as it was meant to be.

Episode 12

Dang, Archer was really into playing mindgames here
I guess we know who to blame for Kotomine's villainy?

Apparently, Kiritsugu and co's new base of operations is Shriou's future home. Nice touch. And poor Irisviel :crying:, the scene between her and Saber was just touching.

Episode 13

Ah, totally saw that coming. "Time for the most epic battle in this series by far... IN THREE MONTHS!" And they actually had footage of it for the preview. And man it looks awesome. I could tell that's what they were going for by having most of the episode focus on conversations between a couple of the Masters and their respective Servants, while building up Caster's big new power. I still loved all that stuff, too. They really know how to make all those conversations really fascinating. But of course they have to cut us off right before they get to the big action. But it was pulled off so perfectly that I have absolutely no complaints. This was my favorite new show this season by far, and the ending only set up the sequel to be even better, which means that I'm already nearly guaranteed to like the spring season more than this fall one.

Series Grade: B+

Fate/Zero Discussion

So, anyone here a fan of Fate/Zero? Currently I'm watching the series for the first time and am really enjoying what I'm seeing early on, especially the relationships between the masters and servants. The animation in Fate/Zero has been very solid and the plot has been pretty fun and easy to follow, hopefully as the series continues it keeps me engaged as it flows on.

Any opinions on Fate/Zero from the people in this community? I'd love to know what other fellow anime fans thought about this show.

Edit: merged with existing talkback thread! -GWO

The show was okay. It looked okay, but I think it relied too much on cgi, and it looked ugly at tines because of the clash. Some characters looked weird in my opinion. Mostly Rider and his extra large gap in between his eyes. It wasn't too bad though.

I didn't find the characters too likeable or interesting either. The only ones that stood out to me were Gilgamesh, Rider, and Waver. Lancer was okay but everyone else could have dropped dead on the spot and I wouldn't have cared. I especially didn't find Kotomine's and Kiritsugu's rivalry interesting. I didn't feel anything for them other than hate for making me wait for something else to happen (which speaks volumes of how much more interesting everyone else was since they were the main focus). That isn't even getting into some characters like Maiya or Tokiomi.

I expected more action in it to be honest, and the bits that we did get weren't that good in my opinion. The only good fights were the Berserker/Archer battles and the first Saber/Lancer fight. Everything else just wasn't up to par. The last few fights were sub-par either due to length or them just getting unsatisfying endings (Saber/Lancer 2 was dreadful).

The music is the only thing that I don't have anything bad to say about the series. I liked it.

Pos:

Music
Animation
Gilgy, Rider, and Waver

Neg:

Some of the cgi clashed too much
Most fights
More than a few characters

Music pushes it to "okay" instead of "eh." Better than a bunch of other anime that's come out as of late.

I finished the first season of 13 episodes and now I'm working on season two and am highly enjoying this show, especially the episode where the 3 kings were drinking and were disturbed by the assassins. The battle that ensued was freakin' epic!

Great series!
