General International TV Channels Thread

Nothing surprises me. I wonder what will happen to the side channels.
It’ll either close down or get renamed, but the first one is closer.

Like I said about the MCM closure: there's no surprise: the final programs are (in full) both pre-made documentaries M6 channels aired during the Christmas seasons of 2024 and 2025. If they had the budget they could do a reunion special inviting former MCM presenters, but no.

Yeah, full day of Pokemon, documentaries about pop culture and a cherry on the top - an 15-minute long French music videos block as the last thing before the closure.

Honestly, I'm more surprised about the channel's closedown than its' final day line-up.

Back in 2013 no, but it did closedown at 04:00, up until almost 08:00 in the morning:

Rarest thing was its sister channel (AXN Crime) startup was at the time afternoon (!!!), mostly of weekdays. Yes, AXN Crime did also aired Romanian ads on the Hungarian / CEE feed, along with AXN Sci-Fi

After when the two former named channels (AXN White and Black) rebranded into Sony Max and Movie Channel, Romanian ads were off the air as RTL Saleshouse (formely R-Time) currently airing Hungarian ads

Those documentaries are the type of French filler slop nornally seen at Christmas and the new year. The cult toons one is from 2025 and made for Gulli, while the geek culture one is from 2024 and seems to be from the main M6 channel.

I think the music video block afterwards will be automated, an unfitting end to what was once one of the fundamentals of French cable. Even NRJ 12 had a better send-off in its last minutes on air, after a repeated program, what with the logos turning into static, and C8 pandering to the continuation of Touchez pas à mon poste!, on digital platforms.

Did Sony spin a wheel for Sony Movie Channel and Sony Max? I mean, with the Hungarian one around, you had three different Sony MAX that only shared the name (and in case of Hungary and South Africa, the graphics too.)

Barrandov is dead.
And possibly, maybe 10 years ago, yes.
At least you're knowing that a third large private network would be irrelevant, as most European countries prefer two big networks. Here it's SIC and TVI. Over the border it's RTL and SAT.1 (and their side channels), Polsat and TVN, JOJ and Markíza.

How Barrandov survived so long as its own channel, and in an awful attempt at becoming the "fourth estate" (including Czech Television in the public sector), is beyond me

The French music channel MCM will close its doors the 30th of June. Well, it was a long standing one!
Go and say hi to June and Elle Girl when you join the afterlife /lh
When MCM Top (Alongside With Primary MCM) Will Cease On The 30th June 2026,
Only France-based Channel Called Mezzo Will Continue Carrying On The Digiturk Platform In Türkiye.

BTW: MCM Was First Arrived In Türkiye In The 1990s On The Kablo TV Network
The Channel Was Also Added On The Digiturk Platform Alongside With Muzzik (Now Mezzo) In 2000.

Around 2003 When MCM's New Programming Strategies Is Introduced,
Digiturk Then Decided To Switch Its Feed To MCM Top Where It Remains Still On The Lineup.
With Clock Bug Indicating The CET Time As France And Rest Of Europe Uses Central European Time.

Also On The Same Year Possibly, MCM Was Discontinued On The Kablo TV Network As Well.

When Tivibu Was Launched, MCM's Another Counterpart Called MCM Pop Was Added On The Lineup
Until They Became As RFM TV Until Tivibu Permanently Removed The Channel Possibly In 2019.

And The 2 Channels Using The Current 2017 Rebranding. (Which Will Turn 10 Next Year.)
It used to exist in RO but it had a short life. Launched in May 2000, replaced in June 2002 by MTV RO, the latter being closed on 01.03.2019.
The Now Defunct MTV RO Turns 25 Next Year.

Not going to lie, but Romantica had some very weird idents back in 2000-2002....

Interesting fact that the idents were Polish — despite already having Hungarian audiotracks back in January 2000 — as you saw the lineup ident...

Alongside Romantica, Europa Europa — formely Wizja Le Cinema — were also had its standalone Polish idents until the Hungarian version launched broadcasting back in Spring or Summer 2004

So yeah, that's how the two-language parted channels were running at time

Meanwhile AXN Sci-Fi (and later Black) had a programming window between 9am and 11am (CET), with its second broadcast being between 1pm until the early morning.
On that window they usually aired reruns of the first 2 shows from Animax's schedule

Maybe AXN Sci-Fi shared the programming with Animax so it aired anime on there — in the case partially

Pokemon airs on Canal J aswell.
