The only way I see Timm and the other guys bringing in Hal is through and alternate universe storyline where Jordan gets trapped in our reality.
Start it off at the beginning of season 3 with Extant appearing to the League looking for help. He tells them that a single man will be responsible for the destruction of all realities. This man does not exist in there reality but will bring nothingness to it just the same. The League ask questions like “Why look to us?” or “Why not another Justice league?”. Extant explains that in other realities this man is one of them, a Leaguer if you will. And that he can not trust the others to kill one of their own. Time being precious, Extant whisks them away to an alternate reality, where they come face to face with Hal Jordan and the spiting images of themselves except for Stewart. A fight ensues. The League could get their alternate realities opinions on Jordan as they fight. After the battle the League realizes that they can not bring themselves to kill this man that they have fought beside. Extant appears and tells them they must but they refuse. “You leave me with no choice” Extant echoes as the same flash that brought them to this reality returns them home. One thing is different. There seems to be an extra member of the Justice League. In the end, Extant faces the screen and addresses a single man with a familiar voice. Extant says, “Everything is going according to plan” or something not so obvious. “Time is on our side”, says the familiar voice. The screen flashes green then fades to black.
You wouldn’t have to keep Hal on as a Leaguer and replace Stewart. He could wander the cosmos searching for a way home. A continuing guest star as the season goes on. It would culminate with his attempt to return to his own reality by asking this realities guardians. Seeing as he is not really a GL of theirs they say no. Jordan then kills off the GL’s on Oa and enters the Central Battery. Or something like that.
By leaving Jordan’s history alone, Timm and Co. can appease the fans and I’m sure themselves. His origins remain intact so we see the same man we new and loved from the comics. Flashbacks could show his past and. You could show John Stewart as an architect if you want. I don’t think Coast City should have been destroyed in his reality. Since that is the reason Jordan became Parallax. You could substitute his yearning to bring back his home with his yearning to return to his home.
Do to the fact that Time jumping is something that can’t exactly be explained, they can use one of those storylines where the fact that Parallax is turning Hal Jordan into himself as “just one of those things” that fans let slide. Not internet fans, but Hal Jordan fans. I happen to be a bit of both.
It’s something that Bruce Timm said in one of his interviews on a JL DVD. This will be the last time we get to see these characters animated for years to come. Do to all the writers and artists and fans that brought Hal Jordan to life, it would be a tragedy to let him pass by a generation of kids.
I’m not a writer. I’m just trying out ideas. It’s a story that I’d like to see animated in Justice League. But if it came down to a Hal Jordan and a lousy story or no Hal Jordan and a good story I’ll take the good story every time.
Opinions are more than welcome from all fans JL fans.
