SkyShowtime announces first original animated series Hidden Islands from Madeleine Bernadotte and Karini Gustafson-Teixeira

The 20-part series will launch exclusively on the platform later this year

After having had an animation library that for years has largely consisted of almost nothing but Nicktoons (including Nick Jr. programming) and DreamWorks Animation series (with a few outliers like Our Cartoon President and Free for All from Showtime, and In the Know from Peacock), SkyShowtime will finally have its first ever proper original animated series, known as Hidden Islands. The series is expected to be released on the service later this year.

It will consist of twenty episodes lasting seven minutes each. Here's an official synopsis:

Hidden Islands tells the story of three children who end up on a mythical group of islands and soon realize that this is no ordinary place: the islands are slightly out of sync with the rest of the world, and they hold a big secret—a secret that will change their lives and which could save the world! The three children must use all their wit and work together to find hidden clues that can help them unravel the mystery and get back home.

It's a streaming service only available in 22 European markets, namely the following:

• Portugal
• Poland

• Slovakia
• Hungary
• Romania
• Bulgaria
• Serbia
• Montenegro
• Bosnia and Herzegovina
• Croatia
• Slovenia
• North Macedonia
• Kosovo (partially unrecognized)
• Albania

It's a 50/50 joint venture between Paramount, a Skydance Corporation and Comcast, and is powered by the latter company's underlying platform that also powers the Peacock streaming service. Think of it as basically a hybrid between Paramount+ and Peacock.

This series will only be available on SkyShowtime in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and the Netherlands. It will not be available on SkyShowtime in Spain, Portugal, Poland or any other non-Nordic/non-NL markets.
