I don't know. Very little of both networks' new lineups are my cup of tea, but what say do I have? Both lineups put butts in chairs, and Nick seems to be doing a better job if we're looking at ratings. To stay on topic, even though some folks may not see a huge amount of diversity in Nick's shows, it's proving successful for the network as a whole, so SOMEBODY is doing something right. However, are we judging the network by the quality of their shows? Quantity? Ratings? Employee satisfaction?

SpongeBob, Sanjay & Craig, Breadwinners, Rabbids Invasion, TMNT. (Source.)
Okay that list feels like it was rigged since I have a hard time believing that the top shows all come from one channel especially Rabbids since their only good episodes are the testing ones.Spongebob I can believe since I've heard that it's quality has been better recently and of course TMNT but they better change that poor cat back "shudders".

I believe quality and ratings since quanity means nothing if all of the shows stink and I have no idea what you mean by employee satisfaction.

The top animated shows come from Nick because there is simply no competition in the kids animation department (ratings wise.) Disney has abandoned its toons (for now) and CN can't really match the ratings Nickelodeon gets in the kid demos with their shows.

Everyone on the Nickeldoeon bandwagon always seems to say "Nickelodeon has the ratings, so they're obviously of higher quality to the kids"

Nickelodeon Animation is transparent, and if any of us ever want to be honest with ourselves, I'd take CN's offerings over Nickeloeon's almost everyday.
Nickelodeon has Korra, but it's never on TV. Sanjay and Craig doesn't compare to several nickelodeon shows, and you're left with TMNT as the only semi-bright spot on a network that is oversaturated with SBSP and FOP.

I just don't see quality programming coming out of Nickelodeon. Nickelodeon is doing things as a ratings grab, they're not pushing the envelope like CN and Disney, and that's why I hold the opinion that I do.

Nickelodeon has used their established brands: SBSP & FOP to guarantee they stay ahead as a network, and therefor the idea of Nickelodeon as the "best network" begins to insist upon itself. In short, kids watch Nickelodeon because it's Nickelodeon.

They can't tell the difference between "good old spongebob" and "bad new spongebob", to them it's just Spongebob, and they watch it all the same. But everyone says "spongebob is the show" so they watch spongebob. I pointed this out to my brother (who is in the target demo for Spongebob) and he was able to realize the quality difference between New & Old Spongebob when I pointed out the years the shows were madel

(Sorry if this post is incoherent)

By the way, I accidentally voted NO on the poll.

The Nick bandwagon? Hail-the-Whale posted the source that shows NICK HAS THE TOP FIVE K2-11 cartoons from quarter one. That's fact. And J21697 explained the why perfectly.

This thread is getting redundant so I'll end my thoughts with this: I'm aware that ratings don't equal quality, But considering that Nick is a KIDS network that targets K2-5 and K2-11 and that they are the TOP network for both demos with their CURRENT cartoons being the top five in K2-11, having the top two preschool shows in K2-5 and the top two action shows from Q1, I find it pointless for adults to say "Nick's quality sucks". I'm not saying it's top-tier, but kids OBVIOUSLY love the network for what it has. Regardless of what we think.

Last thing, I also find it weird people say Nick relies so much on "FOP". Because aside from its repeats, the show has gotten less promotional time on air than LoK and hasn't had a premiere since October. Nick hasn't relied on FOP since Summer. SJC-TMNT-BW-RI have more presence on the net's advertising/bumpers/identity. And until this month, BW/SJC/RI all had weekday slots.

But a lot of the old Nicktoons weren't that good like CatDog and Rocket Power, yet people look back on them fondly.

J21697 said that Nick has no competition so the top-five means nothing since it's like congratulating someone for winning a race in which there was no one else running, so Nick could've ran a stick-figure cartoon and it would've made the top ten.I haven't seen Korra on Nick or Nicktoons in months but I have seen FOP show up alot.

Technicaly he said Disney has dumped their animation and that CN can't compete with Nick head to head in ratings. Both of which are true and both of which I've mentioned before.

Again, ratings don't exactly mean overall quality. But Nick is clearly No. 1 in their target demo and despite what adults think of their shows' qualitiy, the viewers that matter do watch the networks more animation that any other network. These at facts compiled by Nielsen. Quality has, is and will always be based on opinion. And it's even less important to a kids network when adults don't care for their shows versus, ummmm, kids.

How can CN not compete in ratings?

How can CN not compete in ratings?

You can go here and compare CN's ratings with Nick and Disney's. Now, I'm not saying CN can't EVER compete with Nick/Disney in the ratings, but 96% of the time they can't. I like CN, and I think they have some great shows, but most of the time, the ratings just aren't there, but hey, if the network thinks they are doing fine in the demo they are targeting, who am I to judge?

That's like saying Scandal being the #1 drama in the ratings on broadcast television doesn't mean anything since it has no competition.

Yeah, I'm confused. I thought this thread was for quality, but now we're in a ratings discussion. In quality, as I've said, I only watch Nick for Korra, Turtles, and Spongebob, and in the latter's case mainly just for loyalty. I liked Sanjay and Craig quite a bit when it started, but my interest in the show waned as time went on. (And it didn't help that My Little Pony was on the same timeslot.) I liked the Dreamworks shows, but the only one still airing is in a burn-off, and for Breadwinners and Rabbids, from the little I've seen they both only have a clever line here and there, and some great animation, but are passable at best. And as for the upcoming Nicktoons, while both Bad Seeds and Pig Goat Banana Cricket look decent enough, I find Prodigal and Sky Rat, which aren't even picked up, to be more interesting.

Sorry, back on topic. I don't think Nickelodeon deserves the hate it gets, because I really do think they are trying judging by their upcoming slate of animation programs.

If they had just picked up another Butch Hartman cartoon, and rely on the same creators/writers to make another Spongebob knock off, then I would say the network deserves the hate it gets.

Is it really worthless when Nick owns the top five animated shows in their TARGET demographic of K2-11. I mean, they are a KIDS network and if they own the top five, isn't the quality enough for who matters to Nick? Sorry man, what we think doesn't matter to Nick and if quality was so bad to those who mattered to the network, then of course things would be different.

Well, quality and profit aren't necessary the same thing

just look at Micheal Bay

But a lot of the old Nicktoons weren't that good like CatDog and Rocket Power, yet people look back on them fondly.

that's just the nostalgia speaking

Well yes, but they still keep making SB and FOP
(even tho I've heard SB is getting better)

Someone at devaintART has just recently made this essay and sent it to me. It details the hate surrounding Breadwinners and defends the show. It's a very well-written article and I encourage you to read it.

Look, Jinbo, was it? I know that sometimes Nick gets háted undeservedly. But these people have a right to their opinion and they dont have to be "Smyted" for their hypocresy.

You know, some days I think I should just stop being a fan of Nickelodeon.

It's caused me much more grief and misery than it has joy and laughter. Especially considering everything from it will be attacked without hesitation, with flawed, warped, biased logic.

It's so tempting. Everything will be better without worrying about that kid's channel.

I Favorited that article - but yeah. You shouldn't really give up that easily. Either that, or you need to ignore the haters. Those are 2 important things you can do for yourself in this situation.

I think you're taking this a little too far. It's not like your sister was murdered, it's just people who don't like a children's channel. And if other people's thoughts hurt your viewing habits, then I propose ignoring them, and let people think what they want to think. Other mindsets should be shared, and if you like Sanjay and Craig and Breadwinners, go on and like them. The only one stopping your enjoyment is yourself.

I have to ask this: why does the fact that some adults on the internet dislike Nickelodeon's programming upset you so much? They're just people with their own personal opinions. Their opinions are't hurting anyone, and ultimately, since most of the anti-fans complaining about Nick are well outside of the channel's target demographic that their opinions carry no real weight at all. Why do you care so much about the opinions of a number of individuals whom you've never met or know personally? Remember that for any and every opinion that you have, there will be someone in the world who feels the exact opposite. If you like Nickelodeon, then that's the only thing that should matter Who cares if these haters like the channel or not?

Okay, so I found out that Sailor Moon had meet and greets at Universal Studios back in May. It would have been so cool if we had that at the turn of the century. I have gotten hugs from a Sailor Moon and a Sailor Mars at a local con back in the 2010s and spent under $100 doing it, so I don't know if this is worth the splurge but I can see that these affluent geeky people are enjoying their Sailor Moon hugs.
The characters from Netflix's Mating Season apparently were born from the same deeps as the Warner Bros cartoon characters
