With the heroes further adventures continuing in the upcoming “Avengers: Doomsday” film, the upcoming comic book oneshots provide a way to explore the past of the four characters. The first one-shot is titled Fantastic Four: First Foes, and if you can’t tell, the story revolves around the heroes first encounter with a supervillain – in this case, The Mad Thinker!

The first issue is scheduled to debut on March 4, 2026 and it will be written by Dan Slott with art by Mark Buckingham. The main cover artwork by Phil Noto, with variant covers by Kaare Andrews and a 2nd one by Noto."

"Doctor Doom’s Path to Avengers: Doomsday Continues in “Doomquest”"

Doomquest-1-closeup.jpg

"In case you somehow haven’t heard, Doctor Doom is going to be in “Avengers: Doomsday”, in theaters this December. In preparation for the event, Marvel Comics made Doctor Doom the central figure of last year’s Marvel Comics event: One World Under Doom. We tend to get one major “Mega-Event” comic a year with Marvel (and DC), which often work to reshape the universe. Written by Ryan North (with art by R.B. Silva), One World Under Doom saw Doctor Doom become Sorcerer Supreme (taking the mantle from Doctor Strange) and using his new powers to conquer the Earth. The crossover spanned several months, with Doom eventually being defeated, but Marvel’s not done putting a spotlight on Doom yet.

Marvel has now announced Ryan North (along with artist Francesco Mobili) will revisit Doom again with “Doomquest” a new 10-issue mini-series showing Doom attempting to reshape all of history into his image. What’s noteworthy about this mini-series is that it’s more “stand alone” in nature – this time it’s not a crossover mega-event, it’s a larger mini-series meant to make for an “evergreen” story experience (not tied to modern storylines in multiple ongoing titles). You read this alone, and that’s all you need. It should make for a great “Doctor Doom” companion piece for those fresh out of the theaters after seeing “Avengers: Doomsday” this winter."

Major shake-up at Marvel

Marvel today announced new leadership overseeing its comics and franchise teams, naming Marvel Studios executive Brad Winderbaum as Head of Marvel Television, Animation, Comics & Franchise. He will oversee the creative direction of Marvel’s expansive publishing portfolio, as well as Marvel’s global brand and franchise efforts, in addition to his current role overseeing television and animation.

Joining Marvel from Disney, David Abdo will serve as General Manager, Comics & Franchise, reporting to Winderbaum. After a near 30-year career with Marvel, Dan Buckley, longtime head of Comics & Franchise, has announced his plans to depart. Buckley will remain at Marvel through mid-2027 to support the leadership transition.

“Brad’s exceptional creative leadership and David’s deep experience in operations and digital innovation will be a powerful pairing as we begin building out the next 90 years of Marvel’s comic-book legacy,” said Kevin Feige, President, Marvel Studios and Chief Creative Officer, Marvel. “Brad brings a proven ability to lead creative teams and craft ongoing, episodic narratives that resonate with our fans around the world, while David offers a strong track record of operational excellence and strategic growth. I’m excited for what they’ll be able to do together.”

The studio chief added, regarding Buckley’s departure, “From events like Civil War, Secret Wars, X-Men: Age of Krakoa and the soon to be released Marvel Midnight imprint, to the expansion into video games, television, animation and more, Marvel’s influence on popular culture expanded under Dan’s leadership, bringing our characters and stories to new fans around the world. Dan has left a lasting mark on Marvel’s legacy and on the comics industry, and I’m deeply grateful to him and pleased we will have his full support through this transition.”

One thing I'm noticing about Marvel solicitations lately:

They're solicitations include comics that are 2 or 3 months in advance. Avengers #1 is coming out in November, yet they're including the first issue in the September solicitations.

They did the same thing with "DNX" (the X-Men event comic). They had it in the solicitations for July but the first issue is releasing in August.

Amazing Spider-Man Issue #1000 was advertised in last month's solicitations for August, but here it is again, being advertised for September.

I thought Marvel was messing up, pushing back titles, but now I think they're purposefully advertising some of the bigger issues 2 to 3 months earlier than normal.

One exception is the "Midnight" line of Marvel titles - they were going to release these once a month, starting with "Midnight X-Men" in August, but they've now decided to release all three "Midnight" series in October.
