"Mystique", one of Marvel's new series involving the shapeshifting bad-girl (known to most from the "X-Men" movies) is graced with a new design for the "sentinels", the mutant-hunting robots of that universe.

What exactly is "Evangelion"?

Evangelion is an anime about giant robots (well, sort of-- they have organic components). It's very highly regarded among most anime fans, but personally I find it to be highly overrated. The animation is absolutely amazing, but the plot is way too adolescent-angsty-whining "life sucks" to hold my interest-- when it comes right down to it, it just doesn't seem to have much to say, and I don't find it entertaining in the slightest. However, I've only seen the first couple DVDs, so it's possible that it improves as the show goes on. Oh, and it's also big on fanservice and lame "ha ha, she's coming on to that guy and it makes him very uncomfortable" humor.

Anyway, the reason why people are calling the Sentinel redesign an "Evangelion homage" is that the design bears a suspicious resemblance to many of the robots in that series-- close enough that offhand I'd say there's maybe a 50/50 chance that it was intentional.

Its an anime that features big old 'bots/mechs. The new Sentinel designs in the storyline in Mystique are an intentional tribute/hommage to the machines seen in Evangelion. The main page of this site loads up a pic that shows a design very similar to the one Sentinel shown in the link provided by RZetlin.

EDIT: Doh! Two people beat me to it already! Anyway, just to add one more thing: I don't remember where I read it, but I read an interview with the artist where it was stated that it was in fact an intentional hommage.

It's a homage to Evangelion.

Oh, and before I forget, a big hardee-har-har to the idea of naming the girl who can control the Sentinels "Evangelina".

I'm sorry, I consider that WAY too close to the Evas to be a homage, especially since in a recent issue of Iron Man they showed Iron Man versions of GMs and the Dendrobium Orchis from Gundam. Marvel needs to stop letting these slip through. I'm all for tips of the hat to exisiting designs but at least do some design work of your own instead of just copying it and making a tiny alteration.

Here's a fun article I wrote on why Ruby and Jade from Sofia The First are good characters.
Okay hear me out, Isn't it kind of crazy how CN never thought about doing a Kids Next Door x Teen Titans OG crossover back in the 2000s? There's five members of Sector V, five titans, and they both have super cool HQs. I'm telling you guys, a TT and KND crossover would've been so epic!
Watched the live-action "Moana" today and felt nothing that special compared to the original 2016 film. In fact, I don't remember much from the first animated film, but I think they barely changed anything in the 2026 version
