What he said.

Unless you like bad dialogue, bad animation, bad designs, one-note characters and lame cliche stories, the DC toons are better.

Mmm...is there any chance we could get this thread at the MARVEL animation forum as well? Just to see how many voters will go for Dc and how many for Marvel? :)

Anyway, I go all the way for DC. Live DC movies sucks compare to Marvel but hopefully that will change someday when other heroes comes to the big screen.

We have our share of bad episodes, too. Plenty of them. But yeah, MARVEL<DC. I've never really cared much for any of the MARVEL characters.

DC! Marvel has had some great shows, but ussually DC is much better in terms of characher designs and plots. Charachters were always much more fleshed out in DC, and finale episodes tended to be alot better.

You think this might offend some people at the Marvel Animation forums?

Marvel cartoons have plenty of fully formed characters and episodes with interesting plot lines. (It also has tripe like Avengers: United we Stand.) To disregard all Marvel animation as bad is as wrong as saying all DC animation is good. ("Batman in the Basement" anyone?)

Both companies have had their share of turkeys and gems. Depending on how far you go back, there is quite a bit to malign if you don't like one-note characters and cliche plots. (A lot of Superfriends-era stuff could fall in this category.)

Right now, DC has the better quality stuff. Teen Titans was good and Justice League was great. (Though I do not think The Batman or Krypto are as impressive.) However, X-Men Evolution might be the best animated show Marvel has ever had.

In the next few years we will see new cartoons about LSOH, Fantastic Four, the X-Men, Spider-Man and the ongoing episodes of The Batman. Once we see some of that product, we may have to reevaluate who is in the lead.

Final thought: I'm not certain these kinds of comparison threads are beneficial. Sure, these companies are competing; but we need not. Hopefully most of us can appreciate the wheat of both companies and disregard the chaff.

I grew up a Marvel only kid. Thought DC stood for Dull Comics. But as I got older I saw that DC has the better, more intelligently written books. Marvel's stuff is more about action and art than character and storytelling. Right now DC has it all over the House of Ideas. Marvel's books need a kick in the pants. Spidey unmasking was a huge mistake and you can already see the writing on the walls for the waving of a magic wand to put the genie back in the bottle. DC has got the ball rolling with Paul Dini taking over Detective Comics for a year and some other projects in the works. DC will also do non-superhero books in their Vertigo and Wildstorm lines. So quit the Merry Marvel Marching Society and become a member of the DC Nation!!

To be fair, Marvel's recent slump isn't that much worse than DC's was before One Year Later kicked in. (I personally thought IC was far too in love with itself, despite being a rather poor, confusing story).

I agree with Arsenal as far as cartoons go. Most of Marvel's shows are overlooked by the folks who post here, there is some genuinly great stuff to be found. A lot of them didn't have great fight scenes, but if you tell me that Iron Man from season two of his show was a one note, lame cliche of a character, I'd call you a liar.

Why should we care?

As I kid, I used to enjoy watching them, especially the Spider-Man cartoon. But now I can't. I still have fond memories of them, though.

Why should we care? They know they like crap.

Funny, I wouldn't call it crap. I wouldn't say it's all brilliant, but then again I wouldn't say every DC show has been remarkable either.

The only category where Marvel shows are consistently less impressive than DC is in animation. Marvel animation boasts some stellar voice work and some well-written episodes.

To call it categorically "crap" is jaundiced.

Yeah, I know, you're probably responding. But I edited my post. I know the TZ moderators wouldn't appreciate it, even though it's a perfectly fine statement if I may say so myself.

Personally, I prefer the DCAU cartoons. Simply from growing up with them.

Although I liked Sp:TAS when I was younger. (And I can still appreciate it today.) The animation and music and stories in B:TAS and Justice League and S:TAS were just... that much better. And as hard as it may try, Sp:TAS just can't compete.

X-Men evolution was better than Sp:TAS. But... still just couldn't compare to DCAU. =\

But that's just my opinion.

In terms of comics, both are pretty much on crack.

i grew up on both the marvel and the dc shows... and i gotta say i'd take the dcau any day.

While, it was far from perfect and had its share of weak episodes, it was, all-in-all, a great exposure for the DC Comics characters. Even while going off and putting different spins on classic characters, the DCAU programs still stayed true to the comics' history... it also helped that the programs had impressive animation and wicked writing.

the marvel animated universe (or MAV, as i put it) was pretty sweet as well. growing up, i thoroughly enjoyed the spider-man series and the original x-men series. however, their other shows didn't really fare as well (Iron Man, Fantastic Four, Hulk, Avengers... though i did enjoy x-men evolution, somewhat.)

however, if "Ultimate Avengers" is any indication, Marvel could have a successful run in animated movies, based on their characters... much like the success of DC's "Mask of the Phantasm" and "Return of the Joker."... (note: i will definitely be picking up Ultimate Avengers 2 in August)

the DCAU became a beast of its own, being able to connect over 14 years of continuity ranging from Batman, to Superman, to Beyond, to the Justice League. It was like watching an animated "elseworlds" tale...

how can I move this thread to MAA forum as well,to have competition.
I should have posted this thread in " General Animation "

While I'm more of a DC comic fan than a Marvel fan, I like both companies' TV cartoons, going back to watching the Superfriends and "Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends" on Saturday mornings as a kid...

You said it!

And DC animation owns Marvel in every way:D

I am a fan of both DC and Marvel Comics but in the animation depot DC wins hands down.

Now, if you would have asked this same question about 10 years ago before BTAS and the rest came out, I would have said Marvel, hands down.

Well, I thought the Marvel shows connected in some form or fashion. I like both worlds, but only X-Men, and Spiderman were tops, while FF first season was a bummer, not sure what to think of the Hulk??.

But didnt they all appear on each other's show as Batman did appearing on Superman's show??

The Spiderman X-Men cross overs. That would make Spiderman and X-Men in one world.

DareDevil cross over on Spiderman and FF, so Spiderman and FF would be connected by DareDevil.

Iron Man making a showing on Spiderman, dont rember if Iron Man had a TV show or not.

But I felt they had there own world as DC had there world. Marvel never relly expanded to JLU.
