"“Mobile Suit Gundam Gquuuuuux” Releases April 8: The Latest News Updates"

IMG-0999.webp

"We finally have a new release date for the latest Gundam series. The series will air April 8 in Japan. The previous full Gundam series The Witch from Mercury streamed on Crunchyroll, but the latest Seed film streamed on Netflix, making the streaming home for this series hard to predict until an official announcement.

For those who missed the last round of news for this series, this series is especially hyped for two main reasons, writing involvement with Neon Genesis Evangelion creator Hiddeaki Anno and the fact that this series will be the first full Gundam alternate universe series to function as a what if series to the the original 1979 Mobile Suit Gundam‘s Universal Century timeline."

Nobody saw that coming. I was thinking Netflix or Crunchyroll, but Amazon Prime, the streamer that barely does anime.

I did see the movie in theaters

It seems like this series will be a retread of Witch from Mercury. Girl protagonist? Witch from Mercury did that. Tournament? Witch from Mercury did that. Machu is cute, albeit maybe not as cute as teh Haro with the beanie that is totally going to be merchandised. I'm hoping later episodes make it feel like less of a Witch from Mercury retread.

I'm guessing their working relationship with Khara helped make this happen :).

Next thing you know they'll also have a gay ship, like Witch from Mercury :rolleyes2:.

"Amazon Prime Becomes the Streaming Home of “Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX”"

Mobile-Suit-Gundam-GQuuuuuux-1.jpg

Gundam fans have been waiting for the news of where the newest entry in the franchise will call its home, but the answer was one most unexpected. Most fans probably predicted Crunchyroll, the home of The Witch from Mercury, or Netflix, the home of Requiem for Vengeance. It turns the platforms most associated with Gundam won’t be getting them and instead Amazon Prime will get them.

Amazon Prime has struggled significantly in the anime streaming game compared to its competitors. They started getting in the anime business with the launch of Anime Strike in 2017, which was shut down in 2018. Fans rejected this streaming service within a streaming service because they had to pay a subscription for it on top of the regular Amazon Prime subscription fees, something that no other streamer has done. Probably their biggest anime titles, and the reason GQuuuuuuX is coming to Amazon Prime, were the Rebuild of Evangelion films that were also from Studio Khara. There appears to be a possibility that Studio Khara and Amazon Prime have a special relationship.

"Review: “Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- (UK/Éire Theatrical Release)”: A Dazzling Theatrical Display"

"It is the year 0079 of the Universal Century, a new calendar to mark the start of forcibly emigrating most of the human population to space colony clusters known as Sides. Renaming itself the Principality of Zeon, Side 3 launches an alleged war of independence against the ruling Earth Federation and takes an early lead by using towering mecha known as mobile suits. The Federation responds by producing their own but when Zeon stumbles upon the test site, the resulting chaos sees the prototype Gundam being hijacked by a young man- Char Aznable, decorated Zeon ace.

…Wait, what?

Yes, from the off GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- chooses to explore the question of what if Amuro Ray never had his fateful encounter and the iconic Gundam was instead secured by his once rival. The result is a radically different UC from the one viewers are familiar with and the film explores that both during and after the One Year War."

"Blog: ‘Gundam’ At MCM London Comic Con May 2025"

"The bi-yearly MCM London Comic Con has once again been and gone and for this eager Gunota (the Japanese portmanteau for ‘Gundam otaku’) there was again a bevvy of Gundam to be found. Hosted by Bandai Namco, the focus this time was specifically on GQuuuuuuX (currently streaming on Amazon Prime) with displays showcasing the High Grade model kits, Banpresto prize figurines and high end collector figures. Of course the centrepiece was a massive detailed statue of the original RX-78-2 Gundam posed in homage to its iconic ‘Last Shooting’ pose from the final episode of the original 1979 anime.

A range of upcoming merchandise was highlighted from across the franchise, such as the Entry Grade Wing Gundam and the Master Grade Gundam Barbatos Lupus Rex. It’s still kind of amazing to me to finally see the United Kingdom finally at a point where we get to see physical samples of anticipated kits like this on display rather than simply older kits available to purchase.

Speaking of purchasing kits, a range of standard retail kits and event exclusives were available to take home from the three day event. Having enjoyed the experience last year with the comparitive Master Grade of the original Barbatos, I purchased the Ecopla version of the MG RX-78-2 3.0. For those unfamiliar, Ecopla are variant kits produced in limited colours using the excess plastics of the standard Gundam kit factory manufacturing process. As someone who is environmentally conscious, this is a practice I can happily support. Much is now made of the impact of plastics so it’s great to see a hobby that relies on them finding ways to limit its damage to the environment (something that itself has long been a theme of the Gundam stories themselves)."

"Blog: Hands On With Gundam Card Game At MCM London Comic Con May 2025"

20250523_101306-scaled.jpg

"As mentioned in my main article covering Bandai’s Gundam presence at this May’s MCM London Comic Con, I had an opportunity to try a hands on demo session with Bandai’s soon to be released Gundam Card Game. It’s important to state upfront that I am by no means a seasoned CCG player and indeed felt this would grant me a unique perspective on trying the game (indeed the other five players in my group were all CCG veterans to varying degrees).

Like most major science fiction/fantasy franchises Gundam is no stranger to card games but this is the first one to reach countries like the United Kingdom. Indeed that’s likely why it has such a no nonsense name, but honestly that’s probably for the best given some of the bolder names given to recent Gundam international projects haven’t quite worked out.

The game is played with two players contending with one another. For the demo sessions we were granted roughly half an hour and as a consequence didn’t get to touch on some of the more detailed mechanics that can come into play as a match continues. I will thus in the name of fairness be largely focused on the aspects I got to experience."

So Uror Hunt is what I think it is? Is Mikazuki and Atra's son the protagonist? I am interested to see what someone who was raised by two women turns up grown up.

BTW, as far as character chemistry I take Atra and Kudelia over Suletta and Miorine, it feels more organic to me.
