Little typo there, you meant to say condemns.

The file is in now way proof that Anonymous did it. If I was a hacker and I knew that Sony was having a very public fight with a disparate, nearly untraceable group of agitators, I know who I would try to cast suspicion on. They're almost the perfect scapegoats and fallguys because of the way they operate.

I can deal pretty well with this news. 12 months identity theft protection sounds really good. I'll definitely be taking advantage of this, and I really do wonder what something like that costs for all registered users.

Well, free identity theft protection sounds like a good deal to me. It's clear now they're really bending over backwards so they don't alienate the PSN users for this.

Keep in mind though, that this is a second hand-account. Of course I don't doubt it, but it's possible the details will change if we learn more.

What do they mean if we CHOOSE to? Who wouldn't choose to, especially now?

With this outdated firewall thing, this is all starting to mirror BP.

BP came out smelling like a rose (which is the opposite of how the ocean smells now), so Sony should be fine in a year.

The whole thing is by e-mail. You get an activation code and you have until June 18 to sign up and use it. You gotta respect those who chose not to, even if they are crazy, or might have Life Lock or some other similar service.

I can imagine there are some out there crazy enough to not take this deal. For me, it's more than just the PSN breach that is affecting my decision to participate in this program. If issues within my own personal life were different, I may not even consider participating.

It would mirror BP if, say, the oil rig was attacked with a missile. We've got to remember here that Sony was attacked by criminals.

And, with this identity theft protection offer plus all of the other make good gestures and apologies they've made, I think Sony has done enough to make up for this. There's no reason to hold a grudge against them over this anymore.

There will be protection provided in European countries as well. Not only that, but free PS3 and PSP games:

Update: Caplin has penned another PlayStation Blog post, detailing some of Sony's plans to offer compensation and identity theft protection to European PSN users. Caplin reiterated the difficulty in providing ID theft protection in different countries, though Sony hopes to "provide details of exactly which services are available in each country and explain how to sign up" by "early next week."

Furthermore, Sony will also offer free games to European PSN users. PS3 owners will be able to choose two free games from a selection of five. PSP owners will be able to choose two games from a selection of four. The available games should be announced "very soon."

I hope Sony still plans on having PSN up by the end of this week. I'm planning on having Portal 2 finished and playing online by Sunday.

As would I. It's absolutely important for Sony to ensure their servers, and our personal information is safe and secure. The amount of work they have put into this over the last two weeks seems impressive.
