PlayStation Network 2011 Downtime/Hack discussion

Store is still acting kind of funky but at least it's up and I can download stuff again.

I think the PS Store is broken. It's back to be sure, but when I tried to add a PSN card, it kept rejecting it by saying that "An error has occured.". Then it started saying that it may not be correct or no longer valid until I checked my wallet, and saw that somehow the funds got added with no confirmation (I never would have known if I hadn't checked my wallet". Now, I'm trying to download one of the Ratchet and Clanks comics on my PSP, but everytime I try to "Confirm Purchase", I keep getting the same error over and over again. Either the PS store is broken, or too many people keep trying to access at once. I guess it could be either or, but I'm just inclined to think that it's at least partially, if not completely broken.

Is anybody else having similar problems?

EDIT: I was able to finally download the first R&C issue to my PSP, but only after several attempts.

Yeah, I keep getting that same error trying to download all the L.A. Noire content. 8002136 or whatever. Guess they're still having some issues.

I was having the same problem last night. This morning when I turned it on it was working better but this last hour I couldn't open the store anymore and I was also signed out as well. But just as I type this both seem to be working again...weird.

After all, I had problems with the PS Store last night, but things were fine when I was using it a few hours ago.

Considering we had the same issues when the PSN was brought back up, it makes sense that it's acting up because everybody is trying to access it.

I honestly don't know what's so funny about hacking in the first place. I have the same distaste towards it that I have for trolling, but worse.

Yes Sony got hacked again, but (at least according to that article) it wasn't the PSN, it was sonypictures.com.

I've been thinking about Sony's "Welcom Back" program, and I think it's going to come in the form of redeemable codes, which we'll probably get by e-mail. In any case, I can't figure how else they might do it. What you the rest of you think?

Not all hackers do it to be "funny". Many do it out of protest for what they feel is unfair DRM or policies, or see it as a challenge to how easily they can access data they shouldn't have access to.

Whatever the reason, though, it's a public disturbance. And if they're doing it to get back at Sony, thanks, you're punishing millions of us at the same time for no reason. Oh wait, daring to use a Sony product because Sony took away Linux from PS3 is reason enough, right?

I must admit, though I'm happy the PSN store is back in business and can't wait for the "welcome back" freebies, I'm a bit frustrated there have been no arrests yet for those responsible for the hack.

So 30 days to take advantage.... I wonder if the playstation plus might have better deals in july once the majority have burned their time rather than in june.

I noticed that too when checking out the "Welcome Back" items.

I'm taking it that this is another "everyone rushing to download" incident like last Wednesday night (with the PSN servers not ready to handle this type of rush).

EDIT: Nevermind. I just had to go to account management --> Transactions ---> services list --> SCEA services.

Gave myself quite a scare there.

I got Infamous and Super Stardust HD for my PS3 games.

But I'm stuck on the PSP ones. I got Killzone for the co-op, but what should I get for the second one? Is Pursuit Force any good? How about the PSP version of Modnation Racers?

You should see:

Welcome Back: Free PSP Game 2
Welcome Back: Free PSP Game 1
Welcome Back: Free PS3 Game 2
Welcome Back: Free PS3 Game 1

Choose each individual one to choose your free game. Don't worry, it'll know when you choose because your option will go down to zero once you choose a game to download (ie. the game is on your download list).

I had to do the same.

I tried to get my second game (already got Little Big Planet, my first), and I kept getting errors. Then when I went back to the main Welcome Back menu, the Free Game 2 option was gone! Has this happened to anybody else? Is this another error? What's going on? Is the PS Store more broken than anyone thought? I had to pick the option to get my (second) free game, then pick my game, but now I can't do the former anymore. I know I sound desparate, but can anyone help?

Similar thing happened to me; I didn't get either of my games. Wading through the stupidity at the Playstation blog it seems like it's happened to many. Figured I would just wait this out for now.
