Aha! My review goes first! Showing that I'M the biggest fan for reading it the instant I got home tonight! All shall sing my praises! :D
Anyway, what else is there to say, except this first issue was a GREAT read? The dual nature of Jen/She-Hulk's personality is explored in full, (even though we barely see Jennifer in this issue), and we get to see that being the world's most famous green superheroine isn't all it's cracked up to be. And yes, I was a tad upset with some aspects of She-Hulk's behaviour, but that was the point. She's spinning out of control, as this issue shows...but by the end of this issue, she's off to a new start in life. And I can't wait to see what chaos ensues from it. :)

I though the action scenes were great, and yes, Modok and Blizzard are goofy villians, but their appearance here was fun. And the Avengers were portrayed perfectly: warm and friendly, yet sick of She-Hulk's crap. She-Hulk is showing here that she IS an intregal part of the Avengers side of the Marvel Universe. Heck, make that the ENTIRE Marvel Universe! Bring on the guest stars! And that ending? That had me laughing out loud...damn, I can't think of anything else to say, except this was a fun read.

And that Bobillo guy? He's a master. He's made She-Hulk sexy and yet strong. Do you know how difficult that is for some comic artists to pull off nowadays? This could be the start of greatness!

Ok, I ran out of money (Doc Ock in Ultimate Spider-Man !!!) so I couldn't buy it, but I swear on Dan Slott's grave that I'll get it when I do get some cash.

I agree on everything that wonderfly said. I really like the art and the overallness of the book. I will be getting ish #2 when it comes out this is a pretty good book. I'm pleased by the portryal of she-hulk.
I'm glad she's back with her own book again.

So far...
11 online reviews, all of them POSITIVE, NONE of them negative...
Though it is important to note that even though EVERYONE ELSE gave it high marks, Randy L. from Snapjudgemnts/4th Rail only "mildly" recommended it.
And Dave from Dave's Rants liked it-- even though he thinks it would have worked better in an alternate universe where A.I.M. foot soldiers still wore buckets on their heads.
But besides THAT... The whole Shulkie-team is feelin' the love-- BIG TIME!

I thought it was a real kick. There were some really funny parts in here. It seems that maintaining a sense of balance in her personality is a bit of a problem for the Gammazon lately. She's serious, yet quiet, mousy and almost invisible as Jen Walters and she's confident and assertive while often being way too wild as She-Hulk. Hopefully, she'll be able to start finding that middle ground as she progresses through the series. The best part: Blizzard drinking with She-Hulk at the bar.

Say, I thought the cover with She-Hulk lifting up the car was going to be the cover for issue #1? Instead we got the cover with her bursting through the wall...don't get me wrong, I like the cover we ended up with better. But that's strange... :)

Silver Bullet Comics gave She-Hulk #1 five bullets, their highest rating.

Good job, Dan. =D

I think Slott did a great job with this one. I can't wait for the next issue (Though, knowing what a cheap jerk I am, I'll probably just wait for the TPB.)

Also, did that last page "Unique Metabolism and Immense Body Weight" gag catch anyone else by surprise?:p

If the Tsunami line is a lesson to be learned, there probably won't be a TPB for She-Hulk if no one buys the individual issues, (and the title will get cancelled to boot). This is why I don't buy TPB's! They put comics out of business!

Oh yeah, that line about the "immense body weight" had me laughing out loud as well...but it only makes sense...no, what was more funny was seeing Jen puke all over her new boss....:D

My comic shop had none left :(

I had to buy an X-Men book instead, the dude said he'd save me on (and then talked to me about how he's love a Marvel Legends She-Hulk toy.)

I'll get it next week, I hope.

Ok, I was busy before, now here are my complete thoughts on the book:

GOOD:
-The Art: She-Hulk never looked better, Jarvis never looked more...butler-y, and did you see MODOK? He was disgusting AND cute at the same time!
-The Story: Dan Slott writes him some good stories. His NiGHTS adaptation was one of the better things put out by Archie, his Arkham Asylum book was no less than a work of art, and it seems he's continuing that grand tradition with She-Hulk. I particularly liked how he had the whole Jennifer Walters college years thing at the beginning. It made for a sharp contrast and felt Cinematic, somehow.

BAD:
-... Give me a minute. I'll get back to you.

great issue, it was a lot of fun.

I know JUST the people to help SHE-HULK straighten her life out-- US-1 and the gang! don't forget Razorback too!

in all seriousness, this was a great issue and i look foward to reading more !

I thought this was a great read. Out of all of the C-list relaunches that Marvel is doing, this one was the best. It's even better than alot of their A-list books. I think Dan Slott should be put on to some more high profile books. I had a really fun time reading this book. I was never a fan of the She-Hulk character - the cartoon ruined her for me - but she just rocked the house here. The new logo is great, her design is great, everything was great. The book was genuinely funny, with alot of great lines. Slott has taken the best aspects of She-Hulk and made it work. Looks like Marvel has a replacement for Deadpool/Agent X.

I found another review for you, Dan:

Hi Dan

I finally got a chance to get to the comic store and pick up She-Hulk #1 and I gotta say....
I LOVED IT!!
This book had me smiling the entire read. Your ability to take the reader into She-Hulk's thought process was absolutely brilliant. I've always loved the whole Jen preferring to be She-Hulk angle that I was really introduced to in John Byrne's graphic novel and series but you give it so much life beyond the "who wouldn't want to be bigger & more powerful?"
I love your narcissistic without being selfish portrayal of Jen. This is one of the most realistic and believable takes this character has ever received.
And how about Juan Bobillo's art work. My gosh is this a perfect fit or what?

This collaboration is going to result in one of the best selling books in Marvel's staple. I'm sure of it!

Way to go!!

John

P.S. Any chance of Wyatt Wingfoot showing up? I'm not sure of his current standing in the Marvel universe but it would be great to see him in these pages.

This is SO weird for me-- to see so many online reviewers going over my work. For most of my comic's carreer, I've been working on "younger reader" books-- things like BATMAN ADVENTURES, LOONEY TUNES, and REN & STIMPY. Most of these titles slip under the online reviewer's radar-- probably because none of them are/were set in the mainstream Marvel or DC Universes. Even ARKHAM wasn't reviewed on this scale-- being "yet another Batman mini".
This has been pretty intimidating. And fan reaction has been VERY vocal. Don't know if I'm ready for this AMOUNT of 'critiquing' yet... But I am excited that the BOOK is getting a lot of great buzz! Everyone on the title is putting a lot of time and love into it-- we're all having a great time-- and ANYTHING that can draw attention to SHE-HULK and get people to pick it up is GREAT news!

Great job, Dan!! What a surprise to see you turn out a great book--oh wait, not. ;) As usual, you sketch out the characterization of the cast quickly and efficiently and your writing is just . . . witty. Extremely witty. :D

I thoroughly enjoyed the issue. What's more, I have an online friend who is a She-Hulk fan but does not follow the world of comics too closely, so I'm going to send her a copy as a surprise birthday gift. I'll bet she doesn't even know this series is out yet. :D

Keep up the great work! Meanwhile, I will be sending subliminal messages to DC for them to uncancel Batman Adventures. (The best Bat-comic on the market, sob sob!)

BTW, I've never heard of the artists/inkers who worked on the book, but I REALLY like their work as well.

~LM~

Well, I finally got the issue after a week long wait, and I throughly enjoyed it. I wasn't a fan of She-Hulk before, my only exposure was to her was the animated version of her in the Hulk cartoon, which wasn't good in the slightest.

While some of it flew over my head, like the AIM stuff it was a great read overall. It was nice seeing Cap and Iron Man in the book, although, I'm not fond of the art for the book. He seemed to make She Hulk just a little too tall, her chest a little too big and it wasn't as pretty to look at as I'd have hoped. Maybe I was spoiled by the cover though.

Still, it was cool seeing Modok and Blizzard. I've only seen them in the Iron Man cartoon where they where lackeys, but they where far better here.

With one of the stories I've always wanted to read on the (Spidey sues the Bugle!) I'll be back next month. Kudos!
