Are all those sealed up dinosaurs meant to be antagonists/mentors?

Yeah, the pilot moves so fast. I think they could have cut out a bit of plot to fit into the runtime they have in here. Or if they get the needed funding and go into production, they could start fresh from the very beginning, and space plot points out better.
