The Baseball Thread

Another option is The CW, which currently primarily airs movies on Sunday nights.
That would be if Nexstar decides they want to pick it up and if they can pay for it.

The big news yesterday is that the long-running dispute between the Washington Nations and Baltimore Orioles over the MASN television network is now over. MASN will air National games this season but starting next year, the Nationals can shop their tv rights to another network. This dispute had been ongoing for over a decade and was tied up in court.

The CW has agreed to air 10 Kansas City Royals games this year, for our local market.

On a side note, The CW also agreed to broadcast 3 "St Louis Blues (NHL hockey games) as well. I like that sports (besides NFL football) are moving back to regular broadcast TV again!

I wouldn't mind if Peacock got the rights to baseball though....

The CW affiliate in Albany has the Mets, and as far as a new Sunday home for MLB, well, why not USA/Peacock?

The only deal I saw was the KCTV/KSMO deal because their parent company Gray has been swooping up rights for local areas all over. Didn't know if KCWE was too.

Oh if you have T-moblie and I think Metro, you can get free MLB. TV for the year again. You can watch on your TV /Computer as well. Only a few more days left for the deal.

Happy Opening Day to everyone, except those whose teams start tomorrow, like mine.

We are at half the season, Home Run Derby is tomorrow night on ESPN , All Star Game Tuesday on FOX.

My team has been terrible and are now 22-74. My second favorite team (Cardinals) and favorite AL (Royals) are doing alright or better, but everyone is doing better than the Rockies. Nice to see the Cubs having a good moment now. Blue Jays too.

I don't know if anyone else on the forums is watching the World Series but the Toronto Blue Jays have a 3-2 series lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers. Probably the most exciting game was Game 3, which was the second-longest World Series game of all time. And the ratings back it up:

We now have a Game 7 in the World Series, which is exciting.

I didn't watch last year's World Series, had no interest in either team. This year's post season was fun I really loved the ALDS Mariners vs. Tigers and NLDS Brewers vs. Cubs were the best fun to watch and rooting for the Blue Jays beat the Yankees and watching that series was fun Didn't really watch the Phillies/Dodgers and it was kind of a shame the Phillies didn't really get a fight in there. The ALCS game was fun to watch, the only fun part of the NLCS to me was that rare catch after that it was dead, I even stopped watching. I sympathize with The Brewers since this was the first year they won their division and didn't have to come in as a third seed, but I feel them since like my team, but older, they haven't won a World Series, and I'm usually for a team that hasn't since why not? It does keep up the record of the NL (except last year) team with the best record still getting wiped out before a WS.

The ALCS was way more fun, I didn't pick any one, and I really liked both sides. I think Raleigh should be AL MVP for the season. I felt for the Mariners since, a like my team they've never won a WS and never been to one and are the same age as the Blue Jays (both founded in 77) [Funfact: Brewers were the original Seattle Team and were there for only 1 year before moving to Milwaukee] It was heartbreak happy series for either team.

I ran with the Blue Jays for the WS, just really wanted them to win, everyone on that team is likable and I go got to pretty much know them for the entire post season. I did watch this year and the WS was fun, but my high investment, I do feel a little sad since I really wanted the Blue Jays. Sadly, the Blue Jays no longer have a 100% world series win rate. And the way game 7 went is a heart break stab. Congrats to the Dodgers on doing something not done since 2000 and by an NL team since 1976. They have some likeable guys, I have to say that.

No surprise, but Game 7 did really well on FOX proper:

Fox World Series Game 7 Los Angeles Dodgers at Toronto Blue Jays (S) (Fox, 8:05 PM-11:00 PM, 175 min.)
• 24.829 million viewers
• 10.55/34 HH rating/share (Range: 13.508-13.521 million households)
• 5.85/60 A18-49 rating/share (Range: 7.956-7.970 million adults 18-49; 4.38/52 F18-49, 7.32/66 M18-49)
• 7.05/56 A25-54 rating/share (Range: 8.854-8.867 million adults 25-54; 5.53/49 F25-54, 8.60/62 M25-54)

Beyond FOX, the game itself was the most watched World Series globally overall in 34 years. And that's just the U.S., Canada and Japan counted so far:

Today, MLB announced that it has formed media rights agreements with Netflix, NBCUniversal, and ESPN for three years. NBC also has an opening day game at night between the Dodgers and Diamondbacks on March 26, and airing Sunday Night Baseball (which is moving from ESPN which will air a midweek baseball game).
Also, several elements of MLB’s national broadcast rights will remain unchanged, with FOX/FS1 continuing to be the home of the All-Star Game & regular season games, the World Series, League Championship Series, and Division Series. TBS with LCS and Division Series telecasts, plus regular-season Tuesday night games, and Apple TV continuing to stream Friday Night Baseball doubleheaders throughout the regular season.)

ESPN still be involved is a downer , though the Sunday Night Broadcasts and Wildcard will be improved now thanks to NBC, but yeah. Having the HR derby on Netflix is a downer too. Shame Roku lost the Sunday morning games and Apple TV is still around (eh).

I'm wonder about why YouTube TV lost MLB Network few years ago?

I'm not a Blue Jay fan, though I did root for them in each of their three World Series appearances. Took me some time to get over this because I'm so disappointed that another crazy spending franchise won another World Series. I felt really numb after game 7 and avoided any baseball discussion until now.

It's kind of crazy that the Blue Jays would've won the World Series if Isaiah Kiner-Falefa disregarded the coaches' instructions to take a short lead off third. The coaches didn't want him to get doubled off, which probably wouldn't have been top of mind if game 6 didn't end in that manner.

...

I still can't believe two Cleveland Guardians pitcher threw away their livelihood, and possibly their freedom, for pennies on their dollars. I sure hope Manfred doesn't get voted into the Hall of Fame

Here are the NBC /Peacock games for the new season

With my proposal for CBS to get the SNB package for Paramount Network in 2029 with alternate telecasts of some games on Nick, the latter network would also air a weekly highlights series modeled on NFL Slimetime.

Watched Toy Story 5 today. It felt like another awesome escapade for the characters, while also they taught an important lesson: it's ok to be different, especially if you still like to play with toys. Lily turned from an antagonist to a hero of the movie, because of realising exactly that.
