I figure having a place to bounce trivia and such off of each other about the block's past or whatnot would be pretty decent so let's try this out.

I have a couple questions for you guys:

Promos have led me to believe that Outlaw Star initially premiered at 6:30 PM. I only ever saw the show on the late night block and thinking of it airing that early just seems hard to comprehend. Did it get booted to Midnight Run because of its content? Did they pull a Gundam Wing thing where a much more uncut version ran at night as opposed to during the day? Just curious.

Also, does anybody remember them briefly bringing back The Rising Sun with just Batman/Superman? Does anyone recall when and what day/time that was?

Outlaw Star didn't have a less-edited version for airing. If it did, that version would surely have appeared on Adult Swim in 2002 rather than the Y7-edited Toonami version.

I remember Rising Sun airing from 2am to 3am on early Sunday mornings in 2002, immediately following Adult Swim Action. I'm pretty sure they were airing Batman and Superman on it.

Nope. The show aired fully on daytime Toonami. And the Midnight Run was the same TV-Y7 version that aired during the day. Like sl4 said, the uncut version couldn't air on the Midnight Run(the show couldn't air on Adult Swim, even uncut today). The first run of the show is infamous in that some language and blood got past the censors. It was taken out in later reruns.

It aired on both the daily block as well as Midnight Run. The premieres were on the daily block. It encored during Midnight Run.

The 25 episodes they could show were the only ones that were shown. Alas, the infamous Hot Springs episode never aired on Toonami, not even during the Midnight Run.

I remember it. Strangely, it didn't air during the daylight hours, but rather 2 AM E/P after Adult Swim's action block on Saturday nights back when that block premiered in 2002.

You guys do remember that Adult Swim used to end at 2 AM, right?

Does anyone have a list of shows Toonami had interest in but never aired due to certain reasons? I'm curious if Abenobashi was ever considered.

I believe they had interest in Last Exile but were outbid.

Inuyasha would've been on Toonami but the censors objected to Inuyasha being impaled to a tree, and because it was impossible to edit that out they had to move it to Adult Swim.

Escaflowne would've been on Toonami all the way back in 2000 but Fox Kids was already feeling threatened by Toonami and when Sean Akins publicly mentioned that he loved Escaflowne Fox Kids swooped in and grabbed it. Fox Kids actually grabbed a lot of shows and sat on the rights to them, and I can't help but think that the intention was to deny Toonami programming more than to provide content for Fox Kids.

Yep, and I believe Superman actually aired first in the hour. They started Superman from episode 1, and it was the first time I had watched the episodes in order. I watched the whole first season that way and found it to be surprisingly good. I'd say it rivals Batman Beyond for the best first season of any DCAU show.

I've got a question:Sailor Moon is undoubtedly one of the most requested shows for "New Toonami" but does anyone know what lead them to pick up Sailor Moon in the first place? It had plenty of action, but was pretty out of place with all the boy oriented action shows. Magic tiaras, space kingdoms with unicorns and boyfriend talk versus..Everything else on Toonami.

Probably the same reason they got DBZ, it was cheap and nobody else wanted to air it. Back in 1998, Cartoon Network wasn't in nearly as many homes so Williams Street was happy with whatever they could get. You have to understand Sailor Moon on Toonami was kind of the MLP:FIM of its day. It got such a strong reaction from the male demographics just from being on Toonami that it convinced Pioneer LDC to persue the later seasons of the show.

Makes sense. I happened to be in or near the target demographic while it ran on Toonami, so it didn't stick out to me then, but after (failing) to acquire the Pioneer sets years later it struck me just how weird of a fit Sailor Moon was, and how popular it managed to be despite that.

According to Jason DeMarco the voice of D the green robot in Toonami's 2007-2008 bump package was voiced by none other than Tom Kenny. They wanted to work with him again after IGPX. David Wittenberg was Flash the red robot but I think most people figured that one out already.

The official [adult swim] forums, aside from still being really harsh on the eyes, have apparently switched everyone's user titles to neat toonami-related things like "Clyde", "Moltar Loyalist", "Sailor Scout", "Ryo-Ohki's carrot" etc. It's just a cool little tidbit.

Yeah they changed it to the present chair in early-2001. He still has the old chair on Outlaw Star.

Tom 3 also has 5 fingers whereas Tom 2 only had 4.

Jason DeMarco confirms that they did indeed review Princess Mononoke, but no other films. And pretty much unless somebody finds it on an old VHS we're not going to see it resurface because the video is "gone". He says a lot of the older stuff wouldn't be anywhere if not for TDA.
