A movie is a safe way to test DBZ for their current audience without making a commitment but I really hope this is just another Badlands Rumble and EVA movie scenario where they play movies to popular old franchises instead of airing the series.

Broadcasting DBZ again has become such a mess. The best choice IMO is to play Kai but even that has the whole inconsistent sound track issue and that's not the DBZ most of those fans even want to see. The DBZ they want to see may not be able to air as they want it if the Falcouner music cannot be used and as far as video goes it's just about assured to be the version on the new BD release so it can be HD. They'd probably only be able to get Falcouner back by airing the old tapes they still have and of course they'll be stretched to fit the screen. Not that it would be bad for casual DBZ fans to hear the Japanese OST but sounding so different may scare them away.

Cooler's Revenge was ok ... FUNi's use of Metal as BGM was not (personally I enjoy Return of Cooler a lot more)

I admit that Drowning Pool and Disturbed as BGM was pretty cool, though. Still a replacement BGM track, but it was still pretty cool.

Honestly, a lot of shounen movies would be better if they had Metal soundtracks. Hell, anime needs more Metal in general, though that's just my inner metalhead talking.

I think it says something when a boring Josei like Geneshaft has a far more metal ost than most of what came after it.

I never realized how short these DBZ movies are. Really, they're more like a TV special, length-wise.

Toei movies back in the 80s and 90s were on average about 30-45 minutes long. You usually saw em on a triple bill with three other short movies. It wasn't until One Piece came around that they pretty much stopped doing that for anime (sentai on the other hand...).

And IIRC the first movies of One Piece were this short too. At least the very first one. Movies in general average larger lengths today than back then. This is just an extreme example.

Ok. When it comes to intros.... Toonami is a mess right now.

1) AoT is the first show on the block... it gets it's opening cut down. Despite the claim that the first show on the block always get's the full opening shown.

2) For some reason, Bleach and Naruto don't even get their opening shown and instead get a Toonami custom intro.

3) Oh, but Space Dandy and Black Lagoon keep their full openings! While BL even keeps it's full ending!

4) One Piece and the rest get the cut down opening treatment.


So........ wtf Toonami? This intro situation is all mixed up.

The most I can assume is that there was a simple miscommunication between Adult Swim and whoeever at Funimation handled the opening theme. Regardless, I'm officially done debating about the opening and closing nonsense. Okay, I'm just DOOOOOOONE!! I like opening and ending themes as much as the next anime fan and of course I get bummed knowing they can't all be on Toonami. But I don't think it's worth omitting all the other stuff that makes Toonami what it always has been all these years.

So I'm just posting those tweets and gonna look the other way. Whatever happens, happens.

At this point I honestly just wish Toonami would cut all intros and give everything a custom 30 second intro. No more complaining about full intros and intros getting shortened. Problem solved.

But everything is doing something else and it's all so..... disorganized.

I don't mind the shorten openings for most of the shows after the first one. For most of them, it probably comes down to time and/or being able to get the rights to air the full song. The mix-up with the Attack on Titan opening was a bit disappointing, but it seemed like an honest mix-up when they were reassuring people that the full opening would air and DeMarco came off as genuinely frustrated/annoyed in those tweets.

Unless the show has a less than 23 minute run time, airing both the OP and the full ED is problematic. Somehow they're doing it with Black Lagoon but they didn't even do that with Space Dandy which is a world premiere.

Unfortunately, Attack on Titan is slightly over 24 minutes with everything so they'll be pressured to cut at least 30 seconds off the ending but they should be able to play the OP as long as it is at 11:30. They intend to play the OP so hopefully they get that fixed soon.

I say they should do away with eds and run credits in episode but that's just me.
