Is uncut Naruto really all that different than what Toonami on CN played?

All this means is that we'll have to see that hellish filler arc again *shudder*

Wow, Uncut Naruto is something I didn't expect. Feels weird to have it back on like this. I'm not the biggest Naruto fan by any stretch, but I will take this over any budget FUNi show at this rate.

Naruto totally makes up for the meh that is Tenchi Muyo GXP. Also, adding a series this long (I know they added Inuyasha before as well) means that maybe stuff like One Piece isn't that crazy (Although I have the DVD's for the first 130 episodes of that one).

The first 52 episodes were heavily edited. They didn't really start relaxing on edits until around episode 53 (and didn't go near-fully uncut until episode 79).

I honestly don't know how I should feel about this...

I'd say the first 20 episodes or so are edited heavily. The Forest of Death arc is when it starts to get a little more lax. Other that there is more blood flying which is what they edited in the broadcast. Any blood that flew out was airbrushed. And more swearing.

Between getting Naruto and announcing they're in the process of putting a movie event together, I'm REALLY hoping this means an expansion's coming. They have enough programming with ratings strength to do it. And it'd be a shame if the first hour of the block is forever locked into place (I'm hoping when Samurai 7 ends they'll move Naruto to 1 and sandwich whatever new show they get between their heavy hitters). And hey, if the block's pre-empted for Bleach marathons or whatever for the weeks before and after Christmas, then that means Samurai 7 will end the last week of February, in time for a March birthday celebration and the perfect time to expand. Possible schedule for then:

9.0: Venture Brothers/Movies
9.5: Sym-Bionic Titan/Movies
10.0: Thundercats/Movies
10.5: Black Dynamite/Movies
11.0: Naruto
11.5: Naruto
12.0: Bleach
12.5: new show
1.0: Tenchi GXP
1.5: FLCL
2.0: Big O
2.5: Eureka 7
3.0: Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
3.5: Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
4.0: Ghost in the Shell SAC
4.5: Cowboy Bebop

And this would time out so GXP would finish at the same time FLCL will have had two runs, opening up that hour for something new in May (War on Geminar?).

WELL THEN.

I am officially giving up trying to predict what Toonami's going to air from this point forward. I did not expect Naruto in a million years. Of course, this means we're going to be stuck with "Hound Dog" for 26 weeks unless they double Naruto up on the schedule (which I expect they will do eventually).

This really is beginning to feel like a bizarro Toonami from 2005/06, more than ever.

But they own it, so it's no big deal for them to rerun it.

I haven't been watching Toonami in a couple months - only cause I don't have a DVR or a working VCR, and I need an early bed time, so I've missed out on a bit lately.

Given that Naruto is 220 episodes long, I sure hope they do double it up eventually, otherwise, CN/[as] together, wont premier episodes not seen on US Television (210-220) until 2017 ~

Also, With "uncut", I hope this means the original 3 intro themes in proper order and the ending themes. When Toonami aired it, they used Intro #2 for Intro #3. If no original intro, then I hope they just cut right into the show.

Haven't they been repeatedly saying that they would rather air new anime than old? Naruto's already aired on Toonami, and it couldn't have been cheap to acquire. I feel like the money could have been better spent on acquiring something new.

I think if it was Shippuden it might have been harder but for the original maybe they were able to work out a semi affordable deal with Viz. Either way while I'm not totally happy about it, this was a very smart move on AS's part as the show is pretty much guaranteed to get ratings. Though now that they have a couple of shows which will pretty much always bring in ratings, and aren't ending anytime soon, there's now absolutely no excuse whatsoever for whatever replaces S7 in February to not be new. Hopefully they'll take advantage of that.

There is one thing that I don't like about the new schedule: Samurai 7 moving to 2AM. I don't get why they would put Thundercats before it. After all, they actually paid for Samurai 7, unlike Thundercats. They only have Samurai 7 for one run, while they own Thundercats. It was doing very well in ratings until they moved it to 1AM and it doesn't seem right to me to put it at 2AM when they can put it at 1:30AM. I can understand why Eureka Seven is at 3AM because of the ratings its been getting, but I think they could have given Samurai 7 the 1:30AM slot.

I really didn't expect them to get uncut Naruto on the block. I never cared much for the series and I would have preferred uncut One Piece, so I'm not too happy about this announcement. Even so, I can understand why they went for Naruto due to its popularity and it practically guarantees some good ratings while Bleach is in reruns. I imagine that they didn't go for Shippuden since jumping into the second series would probably be too confusing for the audience that hasn't watched Naruto and it was also probably cheaper to get. They could air Shippuden after they eventually air all of Naruto. At least this is a much better choice than getting GXP.

The only issue I have about the new lineup is having Samurai 7 on at 2AM. It has been doing fairly well until it was moved to 1AM and even then, I don't think it's been doing that poorly to warrant being pushed that late to the block. Plus, they can only air the series once, while they most likely can air Sym-Bionic Titan and Thundercats more than once, and it's one of my favorite shows on the block. Other than that, I'm okay with the new lineup. I'll have to see if there's a still a legal way to watch Eureka 7 online since I don't think I want to stay up even later to watch it on the block.

The entire series is on Hulu. Crunchyroll is going to be removing the show this Sunday because their license is expiring.

Disney still has the rights to Shippuden according to DeMarco's twitter.
