"Toonami" News & Discussion Thread

Which puts One Piece's future TV appearance stuck between a hard place and a rock. It should be airing now, but right now, there doesn't seem to be a place for it that'll fulfill Toei's very high expectation in regards to the franchise. Nick/Disney is going to have serious problems with editing later seasons and not destroying the quality of the show, The Hub is too obscure, and Adult Swim, well, is adult-themed, not exactly the ideal place to air such a major franchise that has a much harder time covering that it's for kids than Naruto or Bleach. Not to mention that Cartoon Network probably isn't going to try One Piece again.

This is one franchise that may very well never hit TV again. It's a shame it'll probably never get a full run.

One Piece should air in a weekday or daily slot right before Adult Swim. I don't see it happening tho. Think about it, you could air One Piece every day for a year and still not be caught up to the Japanese broadcast xD We probably don't want to try that on Toonami with only 52 eps a year. Unless maybe it replaces Bleach or something. Which still wouldn't be for quite some time.

Speaking of One Piece, Neon Alley announced that they're adding it to their lineup in today's newsletter.

@The Man In Black: We wouldn't have to worry about being caught up with the Japanese broadcast, just up to the dubbing so far. So if they were to air it now, they could get the entire dubbed series done in less than a year.

And I'm not sure which long-running season can replace Bleach. I was thinking Fairy Tail, but I heard that the dubbing had no cursing in it, so that would hurt it's chances of being on Adult Swim. Maybe the reboot of Sailor Moon could fill that void. I'd say Yu Yu Hakusho or DBZ, but those are old shows, so they wouldn't make adequate replacements.

So somebody on the [as] boards had an idea to boost Toonami ratings by airing anime with its original Japanese audio via SAP (the Secondary Audio Program available on most TVs) with Closed Captioning serving as subtitles. Apparently [as] wasn't able to utilize this technology back in 2004 (stated here http://www.adultswim.com/footer/help/index.html) but that was then and this is now.

What do you guys think about this? I think it would be a pretty good idea myself, as long as there wasn't any additional and expensive licensing that would have to take place.

This is probably not worth the added cost.

So DeMarco's now on tumblr: http://friscalating-dusklight.tumblr.com/

Really surprised that SGT Frog never got pitched to them. I'd have thought FUNi (and ADV before them, when they had the license) would have been pushing it on them at least as crazy as they've been pushing Panty and Stocking currently.

SGT Frog was never pitched to Adult Swim... or never pitched to CN? AS I can understand but CN? That's hard to believe.

A random opinion: Toonami's edit of "Shiny Shiny" (Deadman's ending theme) just goes so much better over the images and such that you see that watching the full length just has me going "um...no?" Not to mention I feel like where Toonami jumps into the ending theme worked a lot better for an ending to each episode.

Here's the original:

I'd like to see the Bleach promo have Tom do a "Now that the filler torture is over" , would really enjoy that. I know he did that in a bumper last Saturday.

I was just watching random videos on youtube and i came across this video Funimation posted its a trailer for an anime called A Certain Magical Index and while watching this trailer the first thought i had was this show would be perfect for toonami i doubt it'll happen though

Well Index is a decent series. Not sure if it's COMPLETELY Toonami material tho. Also there's the fact that It makes the most sense to watch Index season one, then A Certain Scientific Railgun (side series that takes place during the events of the first series or so with characters we meet) and THEN the second season of Index. Not sure if they'd bother getting both series and I'm not sure they'd air it the best way they could. There's also a few specials which frankly Toonami has never been really good about airing, not that that's a deal breaker. Did FUNi also get Railgun? Because if it's unlicensed then well, that's just unfortunate. I think I actually liked Railgun more than either Index season altho I did watch it a bit more spaced out than I should have. And Railgun has a higher slice of life element in it but there's also a lot of action.

All in all I think they would be good on Toonami but idk if they'll ever show up there.

Eh, Index is too otaku bait-y for Toonami imo

Adult Swim DID run Durarara!! though which is far more overt about it than Index is IMO. Index also has a lot more fight scenes in it, it reminds me of Bleach more than DRRR!!.

Honestly, I'd much rather Toonami run Sengoku Basara than A Certain Magical Index. For the love god, ...PLEASE air that! Or at the very least, Birdy the Mighty Decode.

Sengoku Basara would be cool. Its action, action, action. The ideal Toonami show.

I'm kind of hoping that they air Heroic Age. That show is kind've fell under the radar for most anime fans.

Has DeMarco mentioned anything regarding One Piece?

Yes. That they don't have the rights to it.

I'm hoping they can spring for the Persona 4 dub, but it's along shot.

Okay, so I found out that Sailor Moon had meet and greets at Universal Studios back in May. It would have been so cool if we had that at the turn of the century. I have gotten hugs from a Sailor Moon and a Sailor Mars at a local con back in the 2010s and spent under $100 doing it, so I don't know if this is worth the splurge but I can see that these affluent geeky people are enjoying their Sailor Moon hugs.
The characters from Netflix's Mating Season apparently were born from the same deeps as the Warner Bros cartoon characters
