"Toonami" News & Discussion Thread

Honestly, I'm not surprised at all. GXP was a ratings killer.

The shows I want to watch come on earlier, and I don't have to strain myself to keep awake to watch Samurai 7.

This schedule is indeed a huge improvement. I have no interest in GXP anyway, so this gives me a good chance to properly fall asleep.

So when does this new schedule take effect? This saturday?

Next Saturday. I think they would have changed it this week, but they're probably not done with making the new bumps and the new line up promo.

Oh grand, Tenchi GXP comes on right around the time I go to bed. :P
But yeah, that show kinda wasn't doing it for me, and again, this is coming from someone who loves the Tenchi franchise.

To be fair, though, the rest of the episodes after episode one weren't as bad, but episode one was horrible.
Actually had someone who loves the show yell at me on Twitter for complaining about the first episode so much.

But anyway, I'm really happy to see Adult Swim doing something about this, because I was getting really worried about the ratings there for a bit.
Also, happy to see Eureka Seven move up a half-hour.

I agree that the other episodes that have aired weren't nearly as bad as the first episode, but they weren't really good either. They were just boring at best and combine that was the horrible first impression in the first episode, it really wasn't doing anything to make itself look any better for me or for the general audience. At least most of the better shows will air earlier. Plus, I won't have to keep watching the series in its new timeslot, unless it drastically gets better with this week's episode or I want to force myself to finish it for some strange reason, and I can go straight to sleep right after watching Eureka Seven.

It should take effect on the 15th. They'll most likely create a new promo for the schedule change. It would be kind of cool if they included that same quote from Mary Shelley again since I really liked that about the last promo.

So GXP's not cutting the mustard, huh? Oh well, Universe has been and probably always will be my favorite of the Tenchi franchise, and I haven't seen anything else under the banner since that can knock it off its perch. (Well, except for the first movie, I suppose.)

If they wanted a fanservice-y type show set in space that's probably cheap, why didn't they pick up something like Vandread? At least THAT show is fun.

Well, if it bumps E7 up to 1:30 CST, at least SOMETHING good comes from this.

Didn't I suggest the same thing for the block pages ago on this thread or some other one?

I thought Tenchi Universe was fantastic, even after rewatching it years after seeing it on Cartoon Network.
Heck, I even enjoyed Tenchi in Tokyo, even with the humor in the first half being somewhat annoying, I found the second half of the series being really exciting (even if the final showdown was a bit anticlimactic).

GPX, though, I just find annoying and I really dislike the protagonist and just don't root for him at all.
And I do not see the appeal of him at all, or why these ladies are falling over themselves for him.
At least Tenchi worked for a living, and had a grand royal lineage.

actually to hell with fear is a music video

It looks like the Toonami crew already chose a show to replace Samurai 7 when it ends in February. The Tumblr also revealed that the staff usually chooses a show a couple of months before the show its replacing ends.

Choosing a new show a couple of months ahead of time makes sense. They probably would want to get everything setup for the new schedule in advance, as opposed to just a couple of weeks before the show ends. I seriously hope that the new show they chose to replace Samurai 7 when it ends in February is a better choice than bringing GXP to the block.

Here's to hoping it was a highly regarded series they picked. I'm assuming it was/is "cheap", considering all the new Bleach episodes they'll have yet to play, and Naruto's appearance, and that they don't have much a big budget to deal with... unless Santa paid them a quite handsome gift early...

I think that I'd prefer movie nights more than a marathon for a certain show, especially when I think that the shows with the best chances for a marathon are Bleach and Naruto, both of which I don't particularly care for. Still, it would be something to liven up the block and it's nice to hear that they're working on fun stuff for next year.

Yeah, I would definitely love something like "A(nother) Month of Miyazaki". Maybe show one of the old favorites like like Spirited Away, Laputa, Mononoke, or Nausicaa and then go with some new ones for the rest of the month: Totoro, Howl, Porco

Okay, so I found out that Sailor Moon had meet and greets at Universal Studios back in May. It would have been so cool if we had that at the turn of the century. I have gotten hugs from a Sailor Moon and a Sailor Mars at a local con back in the 2010s and spent under $100 doing it, so I don't know if this is worth the splurge but I can see that these affluent geeky people are enjoying their Sailor Moon hugs.
The characters from Netflix's Mating Season apparently were born from the same deeps as the Warner Bros cartoon characters
