"Toonami" News & Discussion Thread

I actually think it would be best if Naruto got a marathon. Lets face it, Toonami is really behind on the show, and it could potentially help ratings the further along they get.

Yeah, I would definitely love something like "A(nother) Month of Miyazaki". Maybe show one of the old favorites like like Spirited Away, Laputa, Mononoke, or Nausicaa and then go with some new ones for the rest of the month: Totoro, Howl, Porco

Totoro is not an action film. If I recall it aired on Fridays in the past rather than on Toonami, and a perfectly G-rated family movie certainly has no place on Adult Swim. Hell, I'd feel weird about any of those films except Mononoke, Porco, and MAYBE Nausicaa airing on Adult Swim. They have absolutely no reason to; they're family films with little-to-no objectionable content with mainstream appeal that have gotten CN great ratings in the past. Airing them on Adult Swim would be the ultimate signal of "we've completely given up on caring about anime even when it's been successful" from CN.

That's true. I just don't care much about the series myself, so the idea of a Naruto marathon doesn't appeal to me, despite how it could led to better ratings.

I really like the idea of a Month of Miyazaki movies, even though not many of them have action and they are more like family films more than what appeals to the audience for Toonami/Adult Swim. Still, it would be pretty cool to see some of those movies air on TV again. I'd be happy with some of those DC and Marvel movies airing on the block too.

This. Since some of the DC and Marvel PG-13 films might be a tad too violent for normal CN, Toonami would be the perfect place for them.

And with Man of Steel coming out next year, airing some Superman DTVs would be a smart move.

Totoro? No thanks. Waaaaaaaaaaaaay too saccharine for Adult Swim. It would be more fitting on Nick Jr.

Howl already aired on CN [strike]after Toonami's cancellation[/strike], and I personally wouldn't want to see it again. It's one of the weaker Ghibli films due to its lack of focus and abrupt ending.

Porco Rosso would actually be fitting.

Didn't it air on Toonami?

Sent from my iPod touch using toonzone

It did not. It aired on a Sunday back when CN was primarily airing premiere movies on Sundays.

One of these days I need to post the promo that Peter Cullen did for Dragonball Evolution...

The on air schedule has updated, showing as far as February 2nd.

As of how it looks now, Cowboy Bebop will begin another run after its current run. That's the same week as Bleach returns with premieres.

Aw....Why can't they play GITS instead? At least that's taken a break.

I'd personally prefer them playing the episode of GitS and GitS: 2nd GiG that has yet to air on Toonami just for the sake of completetion. I also like GitS more than Bebop, but both are good so that doesn't matter.

I think they should at least give one of Bebop's slots to GitS when Bebop finishes the current run.

Mission accomplished: Toonami

Looks like the Tumblr support is working well :).

My friend got a copy of the Serial Experiments Lain DVD the other day. I watched some of it with her and my reaction is:

Why isn't this on Toonami. This is perfect.

It is one of DeMarco's favorite anime but it's not an action show so it's not going to air on Toonami. MAYBE if they could get it extra-cheap (doubtful) they could squeeze it into the DVR Theater block because while it fails as action it certainly succeeds as trippy.

Well, that didn't stop the old Toonami from showing Hamtaro. Granted, it was during their off days, but still.

Okay, so I found out that Sailor Moon had meet and greets at Universal Studios back in May. It would have been so cool if we had that at the turn of the century. I have gotten hugs from a Sailor Moon and a Sailor Mars at a local con back in the 2010s and spent under $100 doing it, so I don't know if this is worth the splurge but I can see that these affluent geeky people are enjoying their Sailor Moon hugs.
The characters from Netflix's Mating Season apparently were born from the same deeps as the Warner Bros cartoon characters
