In One Piece's situation, the majority of what came before episode 207 previously aired on Toonami (albeit in heavily edited form for the first two sagas), so skipping ahead was okay (and it helps that Oda writes One Piece so new viewers can jump in between any saga and not be lost).

Wait, i thought back then Toonami only aired episodes from the Alabasta Arc to the first half of Skypeia? Unless i'm missing something, sorry.

They aired episodes from the beginning (East Blue) all the way through the first half of Skypiea. Now, they WERE the 4kids version, but despite that, they still generally told the story of the show.

That Space Dandy promo was awesome. The show looks very Gainaxy and that good. I am surprised they didn't make this.

I'd be downright shocked if it wasn't part of the cast or involved with the dub at all. It seems like he would be one of the voice actors they would want to get for this show.

The promo did look pretty cool and I'll definitely have to check it out.

I assume the main issue is that most Funimation produced dubs are non-Union right? Or has that changed?

I know they've actually had some voice actors who are typically based out of LA work on their dubs. Though they might not be in SAG or AFTRA.

I recall the later Tenchi Muyo titles Funimation released which had dubs produced and recorded in Los Angeles, though I don't know the whole story of how that turned out and the ins and outs of how Funimation decides to produce their dubs.

Texas is a Right-To-Work state. So yeah they are non-union. Though that doesn't stop some Los Angeles VAs from working in FUNimation dubs, if they're financial core. If they're fi-core they can participate in non-union work (under their real names anyway) but lose their voting rights in the union. This is why when Dameon Clarke reprised Cell in DBZ Kai he used an alias so he would not lose his union rights.

The latest Tenchi Muyo title was recorded in Texas. Only GXP and some of the OVAs were recorded in Los Angeles.

Steve Blum could probably revive the David Lucas alias if he wanted to participate in Space Dandy but maybe he feels it would get him in trouble with the union (as Blum's voice is pretty damn distinct) or would cost him opportunities and jobs in the long run.

Johnny Yong Bosch no longer has voiting rights in the union but I don't know if it's because of FUNimation dubs. Carrie Savage, Stephanie Sheh, Patrick Seitz, and now Todd Haberkorn & Cherami Leigh also fall into that gray area, they may be fi-core, they may not. I also don't know if Laura Bailey, Troy Baker and Travis Willingham have voting rights or not, they've been absent from FUNi dubs since Soul Eater and FMA:B so I think they do have voting rights otherwise they'd be doing what Seitz, Sheh, and Savage do and pop up in FUNimation dubs for extra money (not that Baker in particular needs extra money though, he's become an "it" voice actor on the level of Nolan North in recent years). We'll know for sure once Ace reappears in One Piece because Willingham has voiced the character for all of his FUNimation appearances thus far.

This is only an assumption, but if I would guess, maybe Blum is not a point where he can't or it doesn't make sense for him to do non-union or fi-core projects.

But I'm under the impression Sinterniklaas was not union until recently. Then again, it's not always mandatory to be in the union to work on union projects.

Toonami's Tumblr page posts all the promos typically right after they air. The Toonami Swim YouTube channel is the official channel for the block, but they typically leave videos unlisted for some reason.
