Toonami Ratings

Now I really don't care what you believe & I never told you what to believe. You are free to think what you want. But if you think re-hashing this is going to change my opinion on the subject you are wasting your time. It's not just on the subject of Megas XLR specifically but the larger debate of wiki vs twitter. You & others clearly give more credence to twitter. I have explained in detail the difference between their editorial control process but you either fail to understand that or simply choose to ignore it. Either way constantly re-hashing this is not going to change my opinion there either. As I said before, I will leave it alone when you do.

I'm not trying to change you're opinion and I feel disrespected that you even think that I'm trying to do that. I'm just expressing why I disagree with you and how I really don't care for your attitude. It is possible to disagree without being disrespectful and insulting towards others. I'm giving credit to the people behind Toonami who are answering through Twitter. I have read your argument and there's nothing about it as to why I would choose to think your answer is more creditable than people who are involved with it or that the show could really air again. I have no reason to believe a wiki over people who are actually involved in the business and just use Twitter as a means to express that information.

Since we're just going around in circle and I don't care to be insulted again, we should just drop the subject. Please don't insult me or anyone else. If you also want to drop a conversation the next time something like this happens, it's also possible for you to do it yourself. Even if I reply back and say why I disagree, you can be respectful and just not reply at all instead of treating me like an idiot. It's probably best that we don't talk again since you're only interested in insulting me and I don't care to be in conversations with people who have no interest in even attempting to be respectful.

It's not that we're giving more credibility to Jason DeMarco, George Kristic, and the Toonami staff solely because of the social media medium they choose to interact on. We give these people more credence because they ARE people who are actually in the industry, not to mention people who work on the block and in George's case freakin' produced the show. Do you really think random people on the internet like yourself and people on wikipedia know more about what goes on at Cartoon Network more than they do? Wiki's editorial control process does not automatically make the statements of random wiki users more credible than those professionals.

I don't think Megas XLR would get PG on CN now. In terms of rating I don't see it being any different than B10:AF. Gen Rex deals more with death & gets more dramatic than a Y7 show should. PG fits it . If Megas XLR aired on the Hub or Vortexx I think it would get Y7 FV so I figure the same for CN. Kids networks are required to draw a distinction between G/Y7/Y7 FV because they are likely to draw veiwers near that age or younger. A network like [as] isn't.

Is Valve Going to Make a Megas XLR Game? This is what started this mess here. A tweet by someone involved in series making a reference to Valve being involved in a video game. His reference to "cut scenes" means scenes from the series making their way into the game & that constitutes new production value for the series. But I believe he was talking about digital scenes that stem from the digital rights that are clearly still in effect. Even if you doubt wiki, just visit Xbox Live or ITunes & you will see it's available for dl.

Ishtar, I am not a sheep like you are. When someone tweet's something that doesn't make sense I naturally ask why. I don't care if it's the CEO of Warner tweeting it. People are prone to error & twitter is an off-the-cuff/chain format for communication. So it's more prone to error than other sources. I will always put more stock in the message itself than the messenger. Even after all this we still do not have a concrete reason as to why. The most damaging evidence against his tweet is the fact that the series is available at ITunes & XBox Live. Even if you assume some bizarre analog vs digital twist to this plot, there are 1000's of analog programs airing over cable today. Boomerang features plenty of programs that were in analog format & CN has to convert those to digital before beaming them off their satellite. So why Megas XLR? Is it just CN or does that include all networks? What about the Hub, Vortexx, & Boomerang for that matter? What other show do you know in CN's history can never be aired again on any network? If it's just CN, then why? Amortization does not explain that. As long as it does not make sense, I consider it to be at best an exageration & if some network really wants it they can get it. You are free to believe whatever you want.

OK, now you're just being mean, calling other posters "sheep" and all.

It would be one thing if this was one off the cuff comment. But Demarco, George, and Jody have repeatedly stated they can't air MEGAS and that the digital rights are different.

Vortexx would give it a Y7-FV rating and butcher it with editing to remove at least some of the mass destruction and anything that could be considered lewd not so unlike how they've handled JLU and DBZ Kai. The Hub could go either way given Batman: TAS, Transformers Prime, Transformers: G1 and A Real American Hero: G.I. Joe get TV-PG ratings while Batman Beyond and Superman: TAS get Y7-FV but still more likely Y7-FV since The Hub has some actual PG shows.

CN uses a PG rating for marketing almost more than anything else and for that reason if not for the content, I very much expect them to re-rate Megas XLR with a PG rating. Have you seen The Looney Tunes Show? Can you give me a good reason why it's rated TV-PG other than marketing? If the adult situations come down to dates then Megas XLR has a few of those. Regardless as it's all about marketing they could just as easily slap a PG on any Y7 show they wanted to play.

Megas XLR has more than enough adult appeal to fit into Adult Swim's version of Toonami and it would no doubt do well. It's just not worth the trouble it would seem.

Who is saying CN doesn't still have the digital rights?

And for those of you who like Downtown or Motorcity, he confirmed this week they've been cancelled, but he also confirmed they are working on new shows.

I take that to mean he's sketched some ideas on paper but nothing's been greenlit. Of course I'm naturally skeptical.

This whole conversation should probably stop before somebody gets a warning out of it or something.

Okay, let's change the subject...

What are the odds of Samurai Jack being on Toonami? Remember, it was the last thing to air on the old Toonami, it also has a huge adult fanbase, probably even bigger than Titan's (with a few Emmys under its belt) and while I think its few reairings on CN during the 20th Birthday Party and its airings on Boomerang still merit it a TV-Y7, I don't see what's stopping them from giving it a TV-G or even a PG just for marketing. And since it's been brought back to Boomerang several times, and aired on CN a few times during the 20th Birthday Party, there is no legal rights issue about it.

I think there shouldnt be much old stuff than there already is on the lineup.

All I've learned is that you don't check your sources properly. Samurai Jack=/=Megas XLR

Also, calling Ishtar a "sheep" is not going to help you have friendly conversations on this board. I'm not a mod, but that's basically asking for some unnecessary conflict.

I think that it's possible at least. Even with the TV-Y7 rating, it still has larger fanbase than I think Megas does and is definitely more successful, so that might give it an edge. I would also prefer them to not air a lot of older shows, but at least this is another cartoon series that they can air to give the block some bit of diversity and they won't have to pay for it so that they can use more money on other shows.

Also I thought Twitter was too "off the cuff" to be cited as any source of credible info :P

Me too, but honestly, I think this would probably be a better thing to air than Eureka Seven, because SJ was significantly more popular than E7 back in the day and they don't have to pay for the rights.

I used the Tweets simply to paint a chrono of events. In mid Oct, DeMarco tweeted CN abandoned the rights to air Megas XLR. About 10 days later, Kristic tweeted about bringing Megas XLR back. In an interview in late Dec, Jody Schaeffer was asked specifically how that was going & Jody responded "I can't discuss what we may have in store for Megas at this time."

What seems clear in this mess is that it's current limbo state came as a shock to many people so if the demand is great enough some effort will be made to rectify that.

We don't know what the situation is & no one close to it has explained it. What we can assume is that lawyers are at work on it in some capacity.

This would probably be the worst case scenario for Megas XLR. CN registered the trademark sometime in 2004-2005. They were required to file a Sec 8 to declare the trademark is still active along with a fee by 2010-2011. Failing to do so makes it dead & you have to renew the trademark all over again. That takes considerable time. It gets further complicated if someone jumped in & filed a trademark application on Megas XLR while it was dead. That can take several yrs to resolve.I don't believe this is the case though because the digital rights are still active. Any one dl the show & deciding to sell something based on the chars wouldn't owe CN studios a cent if that were the case.

*sigh* You're never gonna give up on this, are you?

Anyway, ratings from last weekend: :p

12:00 AM - Bleach - 1,164,000 viewers
12:30 AM - Naruto - 1,235,000 viewers
1:00 AM - Thundercats - 951,000 viewers
1:30 AM - Samurai 7 - 929,000 viewers
2:00 AM - Sym-Bionic Titan - 814,000 viewers
2:30 AM - Eureka Seven - 704,000 viewers
3:00 AM - Tenchi Muyo! GXP - 722,000 viewers
3:30 AM - Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood - 728,000 viewers
4:00 AM - Cowboy Bebop - 730,000 viewers
4:30 AM - Cowboy Bebop - 701,000 viewers
5:00 AM - InuYasha - 719,000 viewers
5:30 AM - InuYasha - 688,000 viewers

Only one show NOT above 700K? Nice. Four shows over 9000? I mean 900? Nicer. Someone said it earlier and I agree, just wait for new Bleach episodes with the Zabuza arc on Naruto, that could be amazing too.

i would love to see samurai jack on toonami. Not only was it a very popular show back when it first aired, but if this article (Genndy Tartakovsky's Samurai Jack Movie Update - IGN) speaks the truth, the a Samurai Jack movie may become a reality. If it does, i think there could be some sort of tie-in with toonami involving the series.

It's pretty amazing how the 7 lowest rated shows on Adult Swim for the week were all non-Toonami shows. I don't believe this has happened before as the last few Toonami shows (Bebop, Inuyasha, etc) have always been at the very bottom of those ratings lists over the months.

This is nothing but good news for hopes of One piece and Fairy Tail. If TOonami gets those, I really hope that they get the 11PM hour back. Naruto would probably do amazingly there, and OP or FT can be a lead in. IMO, FT's first few episodes have weak animation and are over-narrated, but once they get to Grey's arc, it's all good from there, IMO.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Naruto has a well established fanbase in America already outside the anime community. Who outside that has heard of Fairy Tail? And I'm not just saying that because I think Fairy Tail is horrendous.

There's no data from past yr's Dec 31 ratings so it's hard to tell. FG led at 11p w 1657 & 0.7 18-49. Eric Andre lost nearly 2/3rds of that! I can't imagine prior yr's doing worse than that. There are no 18-49 available, but looking at what EA did in 18-49 vs HH on Sun nights, it's likely it did no better than 0.32. By 1am [as] most likely fell to 0.19. Those are WWE AM Raw Sat like #'s on it's worst day & TOONAMI can definitely do better than that but only in Latenight. The FOX sitcom encores greatly lifted the night to where FG*2 was back to 0.75 & RC followed with 0.7. The rest of the night performed as expected with that lead. So if the door has opened for a Dec 31, 11:30p TOONAMI party it's probably confined to a movie so it ends by 1:30a. Compressing the creds, Bleach:Fade to Black could fit that.
