Why do people keep wanting DBZ back?

There are some people that don't want Toonami to return but want one moment of Toonami to return. In that it's not the block as a whole they were fond of and want back but a certain time in the block's life when it aired certain shows. They want the line up from the best years of Toonami 1999-2002 and nothing else.

Of course those people are the minority.

Those people need a time machine.

Even if they were able to make it the exact same these same people would never like it as much as they did when they were younger.

I hope they are in the minority. It worried me back during the #BringBackToonami campaign seeing tweets advocating the return of the April 1st schedule.

That night was extremely fun, but is not sustainable for a revived Toonami in the long run. The best we can hope for is a couple shorter classic series in the future, like Outlaw Star or Trigun. Toonami has to be successful first, and new shows are the key.

It's that damn good!

It would have been cool if it kicked off with some Dragonsball, be it Z or regular.
It would be welcome if it ever comes back.
But at this stage it's hardly a priority.

Unless it's DBZ Kai I don't really want it back on. DBZ on CN has been played to death and back. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't complain if DBZ did come back on Toonami, but I can't see it happening anytime soon. DBZ will always remain my first and favorite cartoon/anime ever though.

Well, I didn't get into dbz until recently, so all this stuff is new to me in a way. So I would love to see it on Toonami. But yes! What I would love to see more is Dragonball. I think Toonami should air that first. Show the beginning of it all for the first time in years.

And I also agree that Toonami is an experience. My best friend doesn't like Bleach or some of the current AS anime but she's still gonna watch it for the entire package. Toonami had quality bumpers, quality speeches, awesome hosts. So even though I can't see all the old shows I missed as a kid, I'm just happy to live the experience again, feel something new.

Remember how Jason implied that the rights to DBZ are held by the competition? I was thinking that perhaps there's something in the contract with the other networks that "we won't license out other versions of this franchise to other networks" but then I thought that adult swim probably wouldn't have been able to air that DBZ episode on April 1st if such was the case unless it was a special exception. So either DBZ is just too expensive for CN right now or hell how do we know that Nick hasn't bought the rights to Z and is just sitting on it for now. Maybe they hae a bigger budget and they seem to be invested in the franchise. Just a few thoughts.

Also, it took years, but DBZ finally aired on Adult Swim. Anybody remember the days when people wanted Uncut DBZ on ASA?

Considering Kai is so similar to DBZ and they own GT, it would just not be in AS best interest to show DBZ, even if Nick doesn't own DBZ exactly. I'm pretty sure that Funi said Nick didn't own Z either, when they talked about selling them as separate licenses. It wouldn't make sense for them to buy it. It's uber long, badly aged, and if they didn't like the edits Funi had already done, they would have a whole lot of re-editing to do themselves.

I could see Cartoon Network vetoing any idea of DBZ on AST really quickly, regardless of budget constraints.

Because its a classic that everyone likes and it's rights unlike Kai, are not owned by anybody. Yup, they are available since they are two different shows. If nick had them, wouldn't they be showing buu instead of GT

Even uncut DBZ would feel way out of place on this Toonami and it would take forever to air it. I'd watch... but I think it's better if they leave Dragon Ball to Nicktoons.

I was thinking about it, especially after 5/26; initially?
With something so dark and...hardcore as Deadman Wonderland, I'm very opposed to long running shonen on the block and it saturating the block; but DBZ?
Ehh, I'm less opposed to than the others because:
1) There is such a casual fan demand for it.
2) It IS a FINISHED series. It will take a long time to get through, but it does have a end.
3) DBZ has aired on Toonami next to some heavy stuff before, ala Gundam 0080.

Just personally speaking, I can't stomach to watch the original DBZ now after watching Kai. Kai felt like it cut away a lot of the fat that made DBZ too much of a chore to watch back in the day & I really don't think I have the patience to sit through original.

Honestly, the one Shonen I think that can really fit Toonami's bill right now is Soul Eater. 52 episodes with an ending, fun show & characters, great action & animation, and it's the one block that it can air in with little to no editing.

Though IMO, Yuyu Hakusho would be a better 'Old School' choice as I fell it doesn't drag on nearly as bad as DBZ.

Yeah Yuyu Hakusho is a much better choice than DBZ on this new block.

Because it represents a big part of Toonami's legacy and was by far the most popular show on the block. When people think of Toonami, they mostly think of this show. As such, there's going to be high demand for Dragon Ball Z's return to the block.

Of course it won't happen anytime soon due to the licensing issues being too expensive to make it worth it with the budget Toonami has, but if Toonami can become a successful block again and be able to license more old shows, I could see this popping up a few years down the road. I'm going with 50/50 on it coming back under a well-financed Toonami, thought other older shows like Gundam Wings are obviously more likely due to bias on DeMarco's part and not being nearly as long.

Personally, I would rather that they would not show it again since it's been overplayed to death, but we can't deny that there are far more people who support the return of this block than are against the idea.

I don't know, when I see swords that big in anime it looks like they are over compensating.
I'd rather see them get back to DragonBall basics.
