I'm not sure I can buy Dick telling him to stay out of it since he got them involved to begin with. Though I could certainly see Artemis asking Wally to stay out of it for a multiple of reasons, and he'd be far more likely to listen to her than Dick considering the situation.

He could be worried that Wally would blow Artemis' cover if they met in the field, though that obviously implies Dick doesn't trust Wally, either for fears of him being too rusty to make it convincing or a lack of faith in Wally's professionalism. Artemis telling him is plausible to, someone has to take care of the dog after all.

I don't particularly have much invested in the idea, but for the moment I'd like to think Wally has some sort of pragmatic reason for staying out of it.

Well Dick only just found out that something really bad went down that could blow Artemis' cover.

As we know from "Performance", Dick will leave Wally out of a mission if he feels it's necessary to keep the cover.

That had nothing to do with keeping cover, did it? I mean, doesn't Dick tell Wally something like "I didn't want you questioning my decisions" due to Wally knowing his past? It all goes back to how Dick doesn't handle people questioning his decisions well. Whether it's simply because he thinks he knows best or because he knows that on some level his decisions are wrong (or at least open to questioning).

I could care less about Sportsmaster, but it'll be interesting to see how The Light reacts. From their perspective it might look like he was in on it.

On the subject of ratings, if we are to believe the word that CN has to pay huge licensing fees for the series I am not surprised that they're not ordering more. Those are probably a third of what they should be to justify ordering more.

Why?, CN and DC are both owned by Warner Bros or Time Warner or whatever, its like one part of Time Warner is throwing money to another part of it... its silly.

Greg posted his premier for "The Runaways", confirming Red Volcano as the villain. Not a surprise since we've seen the two fighting, but with the Runaways also being front-stage in "The Hunt" he could have been in that instead.

The business model that Turner uses is they treat each subsidiary like its it's own company. That gives each subsidiary a ton more power to make decisions on their own but in retrospect it also means each of them actively fight each other for cash flow. The only seemingly long term friendly agreement has been between William Street and TBS who shoulder the Family Guy and American Dad licensing fees together. No other group has that kind of working agreement that's lasted for that many years.

That being said; what I've pieced together over the years regarding DC Nation is that DC itself BROUGHT the block time from CN in much the same way that Saban runs The CW's Saturday Morning block. Over the years things have become less and less consistent with this agreement but yet neither DC or CN has talked specifically about this arrangement to the best of my knowledge since DC Nation was introduced at Comic Con 2011. Since then, all details of who pays for what on the block has been absolutely hush, hush.

The feeling I've gotten over the years (or I guess more accurately, over the last year) is that for some reason Turner strong armed CN into this agreement with DC and CN was never too happy about it. Something about this entire agreement seems like it has the potential of a nuke going off if the behind the scenes fighting continues. I'm pretty sure that the episode that occurred during October was CN doing the equivalent of firing off an unprovoked missile attack at DC in belligerent middle eastern warfare style :-|

I would honestly enjoy it if they decided to air DC Nation Saturday nights on the CW network. Have that be the counterbalance to Animation Domination on Sunday at Fox. Then syndicate the cartoon on CN. I know they previously aired Batman Beyond with a similar model. Not sure if they did well wit that time slot though.

Honestly, I really don't know why DC doesn't work with The CW instead of CN.

To me, it seems like DC taking over The CW on Saturday Mornings is a much safer way of attacking things. The CW DOESN'T care terribly much about that time slot and they aren't going to give DC the huge amounts of static that CN does.

Either that or take Boomerang from CN and give split between WB Productions and DC. God knows there's a huge back log of great material. The Hub has proven that how many times over?

I think its fair to say that the best years for WB has always been when DC based shows were doing well. That's probably not unfair to say right on back to when the Super Friends was still on the local TV circuit.

Moreover, not to get terribly side tracked on a DC conversation but the Marvel connection doesn't really make sense. Disney was interested in Marvel as far back as the 90s when X-Men the Animated Series was still rolling out episodes. Disney's interest in action goes back THAT far. However, to date they REALLY haven't done anything with Marvel that has been super awesome; on the contrary, even though Disney's acquisition of Marvel had the ring of sounding potentially awesome, I think ever since Disney acquired Marvel, Marvel has been mismanaged. That's not to say Disney is directly responsible but Disney sure as heck isn't helping the situation. The only great thing Marvel has going for it just now is the Avenger movie franchise and that was well established pre-Disney.

DC on the other hand; has been spitting out awesome things and it feels like they keep getting blind sided by their partners, not their parent company (as is the case with Marvel).

Yes, but the CW also get fewer viewers than some cable networks, without the benefit of subscription fees and such. They don't have a whole lot of cash to throw around is what I'm saying.

I could be off here but my understanding is that the primary purpose of DC Nation isn't necessarily to crank in money for DC, but to expand its brand notoriety with the intent to make their property more valuable.

It seems like with those goals in mind, The CW for Saturday mornings seems like a more ideal spot. Throw it there to build popularity and then charge CN or any other network who wants to air their shows a small mint to do so.

I'd tend to think that if DC was buying up the Saturday morning slots on The CW to air their shows TPTB would be able to charge CN a mint to air DC Nation shows on Friday nights possibly a week earlier.

If CW had a saturday morning block like WB did, then I am sure we would get some DC shows on there but it seems right now the only way CW breaks even or makes a profit for WB/CBS is by charging local stations for those spots and their primetime sunday block/10pm block all around.

But I doubt that Warner would be willing to make a new cartoon block until CW starts doing decent in ratings.

I'm not even sure a cheaper animation is possible for these shows to still be good. I agree you get what you pay for. At the same time, I would like to see these shows to continue and grow longer. And I'm just trying to spitball ideas. But I imagine one reason the shows tend to not last over two seasons is the overseas animation model set-up and the cost and time it takes to do the show overseas.

I mean the high quality animation for these shows is a big feather in their cap, at the same time I think you can still have good shows and stories even if the animation isn't like A-plus quality.

Very true, both your point and Paschal's. That's why I was talking about there needing to be some change in the business model for producing quality animated series -- or at least one or more executives willing to put craft above (or on par with) maximizing monetary return, at least once in a while. it seems that the people making the money decisions are too often so afraid of losing their investment that they're unwilling to take a risk for any reason that's not dripping money from it. (Seems reminiscent to me of a gospel parable about burying the money one is given...) It is too bad that they do not realize that it doesn't have to be that way...
