FUNimation Entertainment announced today that it has licensed Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F (a.k.a. Dragon Ball Z: Fukkatsu no F), the 15th and newest Dragon Ball Z movie and the 19th Dragon Ball feature film. The “F” in the title is a reference to the malevolent villain Frieza, who is brought back to life by the Dragon Balls and comes to Earth seeking revenge against hero Son Goku and his allies after becoming far stronger than ever.
Resurrection F is based on original story ideas and a screenplay by Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama, who also conceived the story for the preceding movie Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods. As reported by Kanzenshuu Mr. Toriyama is treating the film as a sequel to Battle of Gods and writing it “…as though it were a continuation of the manga when it was in serialization,” and he has also promised more action scenes than before. Toei Animation’s Tadayoshi Yamamuro is directing.
FUNimation has complete theatrical, home entertainment, video on demand and broadcast rights to Resurrection F, and plans are underway to premiere the movie’s English dub in theatrical screenings throughout North America in Summer 2015. Before that FUNimation and Toei Animation will host the English-subtitled world premiere of the movie at the Egyptian Theatre in Los Angeles, CA on April 11. Limited tickets are currently available for purchase on dragonballz.com, where fans can also sign up for email updates and view the theatrical trailer.
