Adult Swim’s long running King of the Hill rights are once again coming to an end. After  November 21, Adult Swim is dropping King of the Hill from its schedule.

Currently, Adult Swim airs King of the Hill from 5:00 PM-6:00 PM at the beginning of their broadcast night every day of the week, and 5:00 AM-6:00 AM at the end of their broadcast day. The exception to this is Saturday nights where Adult Swim close out the night with 4:30 AM-6:00 AM Futurama instead. As well as the transition slots between CN and AS, weekdays also have additional King of the Hill airings at 6:00 PM-6:30 PM and 4:30-5:00 AM in the runup to the week before King of the Hill leaves. Beginning November 17, additional slots for the Hills are added from 6:30 PM-7:00 PM, 1:00 AM-3:00 AM, and 4:00 AM-4:30 AM to weekdays during the final week. Updated schedules beginning November 22 show Adult Swim removing King of the Hill, while doubling down on other Fox sitcoms especially Family Guy and Bob’s Burgers.

A sad Thanksgiving comes to Adult Swim for fans of “King of the Hill”

King of the Hill is an animated sitcom from creator Mike Judge set in Arlen, Texas focused on propane salesman Hank Hill and his friends and family. The original run of King of the Hill was on Fox and syndication from 1997-2010. From 2009-2018, King of the Hill also aired on Adult Swim. On November 22, 2021 King of the Hill arrived on Adult Swim once again. Returns of Futurama and Family Guy followed, allowing for an all-star Fox on Adult Swim lineup that also includes 20 year Adult Swim staple American Dad and Futurama.

On August 4, 2025, King of the Hill hit Hulu with a new 14th season. While several voice actors and actresses tragically perished since the conclusion of the original series, including Johnny Hardwick and Jonathan Joss during the production of the most recent season, the new season managed to find success through a release exclusively on streaming platform Hulu and Disney + with Hulu. While new season of Futurama aired on FXX, King of the Hill has sidestepped cable and satellite channels in favor of a streaming only release. With the Hills leaving Adult Swim and Futurama only a month away from reaching four years on its own contract on December 27, AS seems locked out of the new seasons of Futurama and King of the Hill.

American Dad has been renewed for additional seasons of new episodes on Fox, returning to a network that once sent it to TBS for premieres. After the Warner Bros Discovery merger, there were talks of getting out of the American Dad TBS contract, but AD ended up completing its ordered seasons on TBS since the merger. American Dad continues to air on Adult Swim, between 1:30 AM-3:30 AM.

Bob’s Burgers continues to air on Adult Swim from 6:00 PM-8:30 PM on weekends and 6:30 PM-9:00 PM on weekdays, in the runup to King of the Hill’s departure. Bob’s Burgers also premieres new episodes on Fox. Bob’s Burgers the Movie released in theaters on May 27, 2022.

Family Guy also continues to air new episodes on Fox, and has been on Adult Swim as well since the beginning of 2025, albeit airing only select seasons from 5 onward in 8:30 PM-11:30 PM weekend and 9:00 PM-11:30 PM weekday slots. The arrival of Family Guy has gradually swallowed up other shows time slots. The immediate fatality of Family Guy’s return was Toonami Rewind, the Friday night Toonami nostalgia block which had aired Sailor Moon, Naruto, and Dragon Ball Z Kai from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM for the latter half of 2024. Checkered Past, a 2023-2025 block which aired nostalgic Cartoon Network shows Courage the Cowardly Dog, Ed, Edd n Eddy, the Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, and Dexter’s Laboratory, also saw a reduction in airtime from 8 hours a week to 5 when Family Guy arrived. By June 30, 2025, Checkered Past was replaced by King of the Hill in its remaining 5:00 PM- 6:00 PM hour. Now with King of the Hill leaving, a new primetime lineup is set to debut.

Family Guy will still be celebrating Thanksgiving on Adult Swim

Late November schedules show Bob’s Burgers airing regularly from 5:00 PM-8:30 PM and Family Guy airing from 8:30 PM-11:30 PM. For Thanksgiving weekend, after Cartoon Network signs off from a Teen Titans Go all Thanksgiving day marathon, and an hour of Bob’s Burgers Thanksgiving episodes from 5:00 PM-6:00 PM, Family Guy is airing a nearly six hour holiday marathon for the occasion of Thanksgiving, from 6:00 PM-11:30 PM.

With Family Guy and Bob’s Burgers airing TV-14-DLSV episodes as early as the 5:00 PM-7:00 PM hours once occupied by tamer fare like Checkered Past and Toonami Rewind, Adult Swim seems to be losing any traditional restrictions on edgier transitional content from Cartoon Network, a function the milder TV-PG Fox series King of the Hill has served well.

The Friday after Thanksgiving, Family Guy also begins a 4.5 hour marathon block from 6:00 PM-10:30 PM after an hour of Bob’s Burgers from 5:00 PM-6:00 PM. An hour of Rick and Morty typically follows Family Guy, but on Friday November 28, Rick and Morty receives a two hour marathon from 11:30 PM-1:30 AM. Mr. Pickles and China, IL will be preempted from their new 12:30 AM and 1:00 AM slots for this Friday marathon.

Several older Adult Swim series such as Moral Orel from 4:30 AM-5:00 AM on weekdays are also rerunning in slots vacated by King of thr Hill for the new schedule. Futurama will be replacing King of the Hill in the 5:00 AM-6:00 AM transition hour between Adult Swim and Cartoon Network, after a long period of airing only in the post-Toonami Saturday night slots.

Are you looking forward to the new Adult Swim schedule, or will you miss King of the Hill?
