Hitoshi Iwaaki’s manga Historie is to be adapted as an anime TV series to air in 2026, as announced on December 31st, 2025. LIDEN FILMS will produce the adaptation. They previously produced shows like The Heroic Legend of Arslan (available on Apple TC, BASTARD!! -Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy- (streaming on NetFlix), Berserk 2016 (streaming on Crunchyroll), and numerous other productions.
Historie is a dramatic re-imagining of the life of Eumenes of Cardia, a real-life Greek historical figure who lived in the 4th Century BC. Eumenes made his career as the personal secretary of Alexander the Great, one of history’s greatest military geniuses. After a difficult and mysterious childhood that saw him exiled from his home city, Eumenes found himself at the court of the Macedonian King Phillip II, the father of Alexander and become involved with the intrigues of the court.
Despite many challenges, Eumenes became a trusted colleague of Alexander. When Alexander became King, Eumenes accompanied him on campaigns that spread from Europe to India and changed the world. In time, Eumenes would become a general in his own right, and defended Alexander’s legacy against many enemies. The events surrounding his rise and tragic fall being remember by a number of Ancient Greek writers including the celebrated Plutarch. Historie seeks to bring back a story long obscured by the passage of time to modern audiences. Also receiving focus are the various figures who surrounded him, including the legendary Alexander the Great himself.

Hitoshi Iwaaki is a Japanese manga writer and artist who debuted in 1985. He is best known in the West for his work Parasyte (Japanese: Kiseijū), serialized from December 1989 to August 1994 in Morning Open Zōkan and later Monthly Afternoon. It received an animated adaptation named Parasyte -the maxim- in 2014-15. The anime would later air on American television starting in Oct 2015 on Cartoon Network’s Toonami block. Iwaaki started his serialization of Historie in 2003 and has published twelve volumes as of this date. It has been on hiatus as of 2022.
