The Super Mario Galaxy Movie appeared in theaters April 1 and did pretty well for itself, earning $1 billion in theatrical box office sales. It pretty much guaranteed that the Mario Cinematic Universe will continue in some form, even if the sequel’s plot was, in the words of Homer Simpson, “a bunch of stuff that happened.”
But you’ll be able to take that noisy mash-up of ideas home on physical format sooner than you think when the Blu-Ray is released less than a month from now. It will include a pretty decent amount of bonus features, though once again we lament the absence of a commentary track.

Wherever Mario and his pals go from here, it may have to be without directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, who helmed the first two films. Their success here, plus earlier as the original showrunners of Teen Titans Go, has motivated Netflix to scoop them up and lock them down under an exclusive contract to produce original animated shows and movies for them. It’s unknown at this time what they plan to produce, as well as who Illumination is going to get to replace their roles.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie comes to Blu-Ray and 4K on June 16.
