Thor Love and Thunder has definitely been one of the more divisive films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, not the least of which is because many fans took issue with the tone and “lack of caring and seriousness” that played out throughout the entire cast at points. Another major issue that came up however was that of how the villain in the movie was portrayed.
If you recall, the movie’s villain was none other than Gorr The God Butcher, who sought to kill all gods after he found out how cruel they can be, and how they don’t care about how worshipped they are. The character was played by Christian Bale, who did make an impact in Thor Love and Thunder as the villain…but only when he actually had time on screen…and that was less than you might think.
That being said, you have to admit that they put at least some effort into the makeup and look of Gorr, as the above Instagram post shows. The pictures you see are from the makeup test that Bale did in order to perfectly “highlight” how Gorr the God Butcher would look in the film. They note that it was a team effort, and that they had multiple studios helping out with things like the color of Gorr’s skin, as well as the black bile that secreted from his mouth.
Other artists have shown off concept art that would make Gorr look both “more like the comic version” while also making him “more striking on screen”, and yet apparently the reason they didn’t was because “he looked like Voldemort”…even though he definitely looks like Voldemort in his current incarnation.
So you be the judge about which look would’ve been better, and whether the movie was to your liking.
