To all those wondering if Fionna and Cake would be getting a third season, so far we haven’t heard anything about that. Instead, it looks like the team that created it is moving on to something else: a new HBO Max series, also aimed at adults, called Adventure Time: Bubblegum and Marceline.
The series is about, obviously, Marceline and Princess Bubblegum, who played the WT/WT game across several seasons of the original Adventure Time series before officially becoming a couple in the series finale. We got to see brief flashes of their life together in Fionna and Cake, but their own show promises to be far more substantial.
WB and HBO Max won’t tell us what the plot is, only that Bubbline have to go on a vast journey somewhere to do something. “Princess Bubblegum and Marceline the Vampire Queen journey across the farthest reaches of Ooo, encountering familiar faces and new dangers,” they say.
“Continuing in the spirit of Fionna and Cake, I’m excited that the next Adventure Time series will feature two more of my favorite characters: Bubblegum and Marceline,” comments Adam Muto, showrunner for Fionna and Cake, Distant Lands and now Bubblegum and Marceline. “It’s been a fantastic opportunity to revisit old friends and build onto the world of Adventure Time.”

Animation, Cartoon Network Studios and Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe. “Alongside our partners at HBO Max, we’re thrilled to continue expanding that universe with Adam and his incredibly talented team.”
Adventure Time: Bubblegum and Marceline has a ten-episode first season order, which will debut at a future date. The current line of in-production AT projects includes this, the Adventure Time movie, Heyo BMO for youngsters, and Adventure Time Side Quests, which debuts in a few days on Hulu.
