The "What'cha Been Playin'?" Thread

I snatched up Trine 1 & 2 for Mac because they were having an AppStore sale where both were 70% off. So I spent under $9 for two full games. Talk about a good deal!

Anyway, its gameplay has shades of Lost Vikings (only done better) and is just plain gorgeous to look at.

I just played Halo 4 at a tournament at my campus's student union. The GameStop on campus is holding midnight launch for it. I only played part of it, but I enjoyed every minute of it! So fluid, beautiful, and fun! :D I don't have my Xbox 360 in my dorm, so I'll have to wait for Thanksgiving weekend so I can go to my parent's house and play it. I can wait; now that I know my high hopes for Halo 4 have been fulfilled. :D I'm so happy!

I recently got the urge to begin a new file on Rage. Having played through it once before, I'm beginning to notice a few things I didn't really take note of the first time around. Namely, this game is gorgeous. I seriously ended up staring at the beautiful sky for almost five minutes, wondering how they managed to make the clouds and light so realistic. And I've really grown to appreciate the obvious effort that went into creating enemies that are far and away the most aware and realistic of any enemies I've seen in a FPS. Ducking, dodging, zig-zagging when running towards you...I think it's a shame that Rage has faded into obscurity a year after its launch while other cookie-cutter shooters are continuing to be churned out and actually get favorable press and sales. Oh well. I'm enjoying it at the very least, and it actually has me really excited to see how groundbreaking Doom 4 is going to be with all the new things Rage brought to the table. Id Software knows how to make a FPS, no doubt.

Now playing Sonic CD (Forgot how great it is and the enhanced remake is high quality), Bastion (So pretty and so addicting), and Super Smash Bros. Crusade (Playing as Knuckles forever).

I'm taking a Dark Souls break so that I can play Demon's Souls soon without burning out.

Well, after running into a serious game-breaking glitch in The Suffering: Ties That Bind, I decided to put the game away for a little while and focus on Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories, in my revisit of the entire series.

Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3
Right now I'm mainly doing mission mode trying to learn some characters. I was never a training mode monster so I don't really know how to utilize training mode. As far as I know, I'd just practice doing combos all day on both sides and call it a day. So yeah, that kind of stuff is new to me. Usually I just go right into the action.

Anyway, like I said I'm in Mission mode and so far I've tackled it with Vergil, Dante, Magneto, Spencer, Hawkeye and Nova. And that's basically what my 3 teams consist of. All except Vergil I got pass mission 7 I believe it is. I'm having some issues trying to get my thumb to actually hit the down button after doing Trick so I can actually do a crouching H. And then there are times where I can't get Trick to come out. I don't know if it's because I'm trying to do this combo too fast or if my execution is off like that. As for the other characters, I may have to write some of that stuff down to even memorize all of what's on the screen. X-Factor combos are entirely too long to remember.

From those 6 characters I have formed 3 teams. My A team consists of Spencer, Vergil and Hawkeye. B team is Vergil, Dante, and Magneto. And my C team is Nova, Spencer, and Hawkeye.

Vergil is easily my favorite character in the game. One would think Dante is because of me being a huge fan of the Devil May Cry games, and he is a favorite, probably following Vergil, but I have to really spend some time playing Dante because he has a large movelist. Anyhoo, I like Vergil's personaltiy and ruthlessness so he's going to be the main guy I'll be using.

Spencer is probably the funnest character in the game imo. His zip wire is too fun. And then he's a highly damaging character.

Nova and Hawkeye because they seem easy to learn the game with. Just a matter of timing on the combos.

Magneto.... Best level 3 in the game.

I will say that this game is slowly becoming my favorite over Street Fighter 4 mainly because I'm having fun for a change while trying to learn the game whereas SF4 can come off as a slugfest to do some of those missions as well as training mode.

I wasn't able to get a Wii U, but I've been keeping myself busy with some PS3 buys anyway:

-Alien Crush: Not that impressed. It's a pinball game but for some reason (technical limitations? By design?), only half the board is displayed at once. So if your ball travels to a different screen, there's this abrupt flash of black before the next screen appears. When your ball bounces between the two screens rapidly, this can get quite irritating. This mars what would otherwise be an OK pinball game. Also, the graphics aren't very colorful and the music is too downbeat for my tastes.

-Burgertime World Tour: A pleasant surprise! I wasn't a fan of the original Burgertime but this sequel improved on it in every conceivable way. The only two criticisms I'd have: The graphics can get really busy; it's not uncommon to be distracted by something in the background only to accidentally run into an enemy. Also, the game could've used more visual variety; there are only four types of level backdrops, and ten stages in a row of each can get repetitive. Otherwise, not half bad.

-Dead or Alive 5: Haven't played a lot of it yet, but already it seems to be an improvement over DOA 4 due to one major factor: The computer AI isn't so cheap and counter heavy. I also like that story mode is completely separate from arcade mode now; if you just want to fight with no cutscenes, arcade mode is the way to go. (Of course, I've been playing story mode as well, and it seems pretty extensive; there are a lot of cutscenes this time around)

-Rayman Origins: This is an addictive game. I'd dare say it's on par with Revolution as my favorite in the series. Quite honestly, it's what the first game should've been, in part due to unlimited lives. The first game was brutally difficult in that aspect. But also, the graphics are pure eye candy and the controls are spot-on, necessary for some tricky platforming.

-Sonic Adventure 2: I mainly bought this for the HD graphics upgrade. And I still don't care for it very much. While the Sonic/Shadow levels are fine, the game grinds to a halt with the insufferable Knuckles/Rogue levels. And while the Tails/Robotnik levels aren't -horrible-, the shooting and slower pace makes them feel farther removed from the Sonic feel than I'd like. It doesn't help that these four types of levels outnumber the traditional Sonic-style platforming so you ask, "I -am- playing a Sonic game, right?"

-Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown: Not much to say; it's Virtua Fighter, and not much has substantially changed. Still, it's fun to play.

Is the final boss in UMvC3 any easier than the original game? I only ask because in Super Street Fighter IV, Seth was balanced a bit so it was easier to defeat him, and I wondered if the same held true here.

I have to get back to you on that one since I've yet to play through the story/arcade mode. Or are we talking about on normal? Maybe I'm just that terrible in SSF4 because I found Seth to be cheap on the hardest difficulty (then again, I find Ryu cheap on hard so, yeah)

Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories:
Very close to being done with Sora's story, and will do Riku's afterward.

Fallout: New Vegas:
Finally getting around to doing the Old World Blues expansion.
Trying to finish it, Lonesome Road, and finally the main quest before I am finally done with the game.

The Sims 3 Seasons and Pokemon Black Version 2.

Pokemon Black Version 2 I got around a month ago. It worked quite well with my busy schedule since I always had my 3DS with me, and lots of time to kill on the bus. although I beat the game a couple of weeks ago and am now less inclined to play it. It was a great game, though, and proof to me that perhaps Gamefreak just really can't get a Pokemon game wrong for me.

(Now that I said that, the next game is going to be a colossal screw up that I will hate. lol)

The Sims 3 Seasons I just got exactly a week ago. However, I have had so little time to do it. I just got done with a research paper and I'm on Thanksgiving Break so now I get to play... Yay!

Now that I'm at my parent's house for Thanksgiving, I've been spending time with my family and playing NBA Jam, Doom 3: BFG Edition, and Halo 4 on my Xbox 360. They are all fantastic games! I'm especially having a lot of fun with Halo 4; I'm a big Halo fan. I even have two Mountain Dew bottle caps for double XP (I never get tired of those Halo 4 Mountain Dew commercials; they make me laugh!). Still, I'm spending a lot of time with my family as well. I haven't been home in three months and it feels good to be back!

On my iPad, I've been playing Punch Quest, Plague Inc., Shellrazer, Lost Winds 2, and Asphalt 7. They're fun and help pass the time.

So I recently tried a playthrough with my Vergil, Dante, Spencer team. I will say yes that I do find it easier (again, assuming you're talking about on normal difficulty). The problem wasn't really Galactus himself for me though. It was the clone summons that got to me because I'm not really all that good and I've yet to remember my buttons, let alone combos.

Also of note, as much as I like Vergil I'm finding him to be a boring character in this game. While I haven't dropped him yet, I have picked up Amaterasu, and she's turning out to be a lot of fun.

Been playing Halo 4 again, I actually have been playing online and after a short while to warm up I actually don't suck. I haven't played Halo since Reach about a year ago, and my gaming skills were very rusty, I was surprised I was able to jump into Halo 4 so easily. The other game I have been playing (sort of a Holiday tradition along with it just being awesome) is the Jak and Daxter Trilogy in HD. I love that series, I wish Naughty Dog made Jak 4-6. ;) Anyways, other than that I am a bit boring, lol.

Today my campus had a break room for students who need a break after studying. They had Xbox 360s and PS3s for us to play with Halo 4, several sports games, and Playstation All Stars Battle Royale. Since I already have Halo 4, I played the other games instead.

I played Playstation All Stars with three other students. I played as Sweet Tooth from Twisted Metal. I haven't played on a PS3 in years, so it took me a while to the hang of the controls. I had fun playing. When I used Sweet Tooth's level 3 Super, I amazed everyone while I wiped the floor with Sweet Tooth's mecha. Afterwards, everyone was trying to kill me first so I wouldn't unleash the fury again (we were using lives for the matches). I played as other characters, but my favorites were Sweet Tooth and Sir Daniel.

Now I would like to see an Xbox version as well; preferably for the next Xbox console. A couple characters I like to see playable are Master Chief and Arbiter from Halo, General RAAM from Gears of War, Dante from Dante's Inferno, the Overlord from Overlord, Kameo from Kameo: Elements of Power, Alan Wake from Alan Wake, Blinx from Blinx the Timesweeper, Sam Fisher from Splinter Cell, and 'Splosion Man from 'Splosion Man.

Well, I haven't been playing much of anything because I had a seizure over a week ago, but today I got back into playing Pokémon: Black Version 2.
When I got it, I started with Tepig, because in the first game, I started with Snivy.

Oh dear, that's terrible, I am glad you are doing better though, :)

I so want to play All Stars just for Jak and Daxter, hopefully soon I will report playing that game soon. :)
Your Campus sounds way too cool, wish I was there, lol. ;)

Thank you. :)
I'm on medication for it now, so I should be okay.

Anyway, on-topic, last night I finished my second playthrough of Castlevania: Circle of the Moon.
I was at level 45 when I fought Dracula's final form, and it took me about six tries, but I beat him.
I think I was really underleveled and didn't have all the DSS Cards again this playthrough, but I still came out on top.

When that was done, I picked Golden Sun: The Lost Age back up.
I'm currently towards the end of the Jupiter Lighthouse.
Won't be long before I reunite with the party from the first game. :)

WB has done so well with releasing the Paramount Popeye cartoons on home media that they should be chosen to distribute the long-delayed animated Popeye film that at various points was to be made by Sony and directed by Genndy Tartakovsky (who has a long association with WB sister property Cartoon Network).

Today marks the 25th Year Anniversary of when Pokémon Crystal was released in North America. To this day, the Johto Games remain my favorite games in the Pokémon Franchise.
Today marks the 15th Year Anniversary of ThunderCats (2011). While I find it unfortunate that the show was canceled before it had a chance to finish its story, I am glad that the show's art director was willing to give fans closure via a podcast interview.
Okay, so I found out that Sailor Moon had meet and greets at Universal Studios back in May. It would have been so cool if we had that at the turn of the century. I have gotten hugs from a Sailor Moon and a Sailor Mars at a local con back in the 2010s and spent under $100 doing it, so I don't know if this is worth the splurge but I can see that these affluent geeky people are enjoying their Sailor Moon hugs.
