I wasn't able to get a Wii U, but I've been keeping myself busy with some PS3 buys anyway:
-Alien Crush: Not that impressed. It's a pinball game but for some reason (technical limitations? By design?), only half the board is displayed at once. So if your ball travels to a different screen, there's this abrupt flash of black before the next screen appears. When your ball bounces between the two screens rapidly, this can get quite irritating. This mars what would otherwise be an OK pinball game. Also, the graphics aren't very colorful and the music is too downbeat for my tastes.
-Burgertime World Tour: A pleasant surprise! I wasn't a fan of the original Burgertime but this sequel improved on it in every conceivable way. The only two criticisms I'd have: The graphics can get really busy; it's not uncommon to be distracted by something in the background only to accidentally run into an enemy. Also, the game could've used more visual variety; there are only four types of level backdrops, and ten stages in a row of each can get repetitive. Otherwise, not half bad.
-Dead or Alive 5: Haven't played a lot of it yet, but already it seems to be an improvement over DOA 4 due to one major factor: The computer AI isn't so cheap and counter heavy. I also like that story mode is completely separate from arcade mode now; if you just want to fight with no cutscenes, arcade mode is the way to go. (Of course, I've been playing story mode as well, and it seems pretty extensive; there are a lot of cutscenes this time around)
-Rayman Origins: This is an addictive game. I'd dare say it's on par with Revolution as my favorite in the series. Quite honestly, it's what the first game should've been, in part due to unlimited lives. The first game was brutally difficult in that aspect. But also, the graphics are pure eye candy and the controls are spot-on, necessary for some tricky platforming.
-Sonic Adventure 2: I mainly bought this for the HD graphics upgrade. And I still don't care for it very much. While the Sonic/Shadow levels are fine, the game grinds to a halt with the insufferable Knuckles/Rogue levels. And while the Tails/Robotnik levels aren't -horrible-, the shooting and slower pace makes them feel farther removed from the Sonic feel than I'd like. It doesn't help that these four types of levels outnumber the traditional Sonic-style platforming so you ask, "I -am- playing a Sonic game, right?"
-Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown: Not much to say; it's Virtua Fighter, and not much has substantially changed. Still, it's fun to play.
Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3
Right now I'm mainly doing mission mode trying to learn some characters. I was never a training mode monster so I don't really know how to utilize training mode. As far as I know, I'd just practice doing combos all day on both sides and call it a day. So yeah, that kind of stuff is new to me. Usually I just go right into the action.
Anyway, like I said I'm in Mission mode and so far I've tackled it with Vergil, Dante, Magneto, Spencer, Hawkeye and Nova. And that's basically what my 3 teams consist of. All except Vergil I got pass mission 7 I believe it is. I'm having some issues trying to get my thumb to actually hit the down button after doing Trick so I can actually do a crouching H. And then there are times where I can't get Trick to come out. I don't know if it's because I'm trying to do this combo too fast or if my execution is off like that. As for the other characters, I may have to write some of that stuff down to even memorize all of what's on the screen. X-Factor combos are entirely too long to remember.
From those 6 characters I have formed 3 teams. My A team consists of Spencer, Vergil and Hawkeye. B team is Vergil, Dante, and Magneto. And my C team is Nova, Spencer, and Hawkeye.
Vergil is easily my favorite character in the game. One would think Dante is because of me being a huge fan of the Devil May Cry games, and he is a favorite, probably following Vergil, but I have to really spend some time playing Dante because he has a large movelist. Anyhoo, I like Vergil's personaltiy and ruthlessness so he's going to be the main guy I'll be using.
Spencer is probably the funnest character in the game imo. His zip wire is too fun. And then he's a highly damaging character.
Nova and Hawkeye because they seem easy to learn the game with. Just a matter of timing on the combos.
Magneto.... Best level 3 in the game.
I will say that this game is slowly becoming my favorite over Street Fighter 4 mainly because I'm having fun for a change while trying to learn the game whereas SF4 can come off as a slugfest to do some of those missions as well as training mode.
Is the final boss in UMvC3 any easier than the original game? I only ask because in Super Street Fighter IV, Seth was balanced a bit so it was easier to defeat him, and I wondered if the same held true here.
