ABC considers bringing TGIF block back

It certainly can't hurt for ABC to consider bringing back TGIF, considering it helped that network dominate Fridays for nearly 20 years. It was not too long ago that sitcoms, produced by Warner Bros(Perfect Strangers, Family Matters, Full House, Head of the Class), helped ABC to dominate Fridays, and of course, sitcoms, produced by Disney(Boy Meets World, Hope & Faith), also helped, too. If ABC is resurrecting TGIF, might as well run sitcoms by both Warner Bros. and Disney- it worked, before, so the network might as well give it another shot, only this time, assemble some of TV's best current sitcom writers and staff to produce the programs, but it will be up to the viewers to determine whether or not the programs, themselves, have any kind of future.

I don't think this will work, and I can't quite put my finger on why.

There's the obvious Friday night death slot problem (though the original incarnation of the block overcame this hurdle), the fact that the early-2000s version of the block didn't do so well, and as stated, changing times and habits. I don't think there's much of an appetite for traditional sitcoms on network TV right now, unless they're on CBS. (For example, Hank, the one show on the inaugural season of "Laugh On" that was more traditional, was heavily panned and a flop, though that had more to do with the fact that it wasn't funny)

Head Of The Class was never a Friday show. It aired on Wednesdays for at least most of its run.

I would love to see TGIF back on the air after all these years, it's probably going to feel weird though since the shows will be all different and I'm sure the feeling of the block will be very different than it was back in the 80's and 90's when the block was thriving. Still, I would support it at first to see if I liked it but I have this little tingling in my stomach that tells me the shows won't be very interesting and ABC would just rebrand it once the other networks start airing shows against it that would draw away viewers. Either way, TGIF back on television would be monumental in many ways and it would be interesting to watch it's rise (or fall), I'm hoping that something like this happens in the near future.

TGIF can work for the 2012-13 Season. With families staying home because of this recession, they will be watching tgif.

What do you mean it's not family friendly? I watch it with mine.

Hell, I have a close friend who watches "Dexter" with his kids. Ooh, air "Dexter" on TGIF too.

Well, Showtime does make edited versions of their shows to put on free video on demand services, but even those might be too edgy. Something like The Big C might work, though.
