Not a fan of animated violence I take it?

Not entirely true. I do watch stuff like Princess Mononoke and Happy Tree Friends on occasions.

It's just that I know how extreme Japanese imports can take it sometimes.

Regarding One Piece:

Clarknova1
@iJoker69 I love One Piece and would love to see it on CN again. We'll see!

There was a lot of new information to be gathered from DeMarco's twitter. Among those is the apparent possibility that if the block does well enough it might be able to eventually expand to 12-6 without repeats.

I'm a bit miffed that too many people asking just things like "Why isn't X show going to air" have caused Jason to stop answering questions, as I feel like I had just hit my stride with some good ones >.>

I was afraid of this happening and it did no peter cullen or sarah but atleast there is hope that if the block does well and garners a bit of income theyll be back....hopefully this will come to pas.well sarah atleast old optimus prime is probably busy with Transformers prime and transformers 4

Now ive seen Casshern Sins Subbed and all i can say its a good reboot of an old show although a bit depressing but it has good morales in it. Deadman wonderland no idea about it but hey im game for anything my taste are very diverse..So the third space is Ghost in the Shell if im correct well thats fine by me i never get tired of watching that show over and over the majors soothing yet powerful voice is like music to my ears

Now the big question i have is if toonam is succesful will we see Month of Miyazaki again or some form of Giant Robot Week ala Robot Month

note:
Sad to see Tiger and Bunny didnt make the cut its quite an interesting take on the super hero gene.

but overall im pleased with what they got

I honestly can't think of many anime that aren't for children that couldn't be called gratuitous in some way.
I'm not too shocked about Deadman. I like Kazuma Kondou's style a lot and AS got away with a lot during Eva, Blood +, Trinity Blood and a few others, so obviously the limits aren't constrained to Bleach level violence. Casshern Sins is an awesome choice too.

It's not dubbed yet. Maybe in the fall/winter we'll see it.

Too bad it's too late to ask if an expansion to earlier hours on Saturday could be possible. They could use Black Dynamite and Venture Brothers to phase out the comedy part of the night into Toonami.

If I recall, I think Mr. DeMarco said that Toonami won't expand into the earlier hours of Saturday, but the block could grow to use the full six hours it has without the encore slots.

thats what im hoping happens is that they engulf 11:00 with boon docks new season and black dynamite.
Cause when i heard original aniamtion from toonami i immediately thought of those two shows
since there animation is pretty much done overseas if im not mistaken

but the likely hood of that happening is like putting a hair in between a sheet of glass
and honestly the only reason i watch before 12 is for Boondocks.

I asked and he answered:

Also, I had asked whether 9-6 or something was possible in the same question and he said no.

I'm not too surprised that 9PM to 6AM wouldn't be possible, but I'd prefer something like that to happen instead of going from 12AM to 6AM without reruns. I don't know how many people would be awake to see the really early slots and at least starting the block earlier would give more exposure to some shows. Still, I can understand why that wouldn't be possible due to the comedy shows that Adult Swim airs during those time slots.

Not sure why you'd think that. It's not like the block is going to be targeted at anyone under 18.
It's more the attitude.
American television is better dealing with people getting smacked in the face then anything to do with sexuality. But AdultSwim comedy has always been more irreverent about such things, so it seems like a bolder choice for Tonnami to pick it up.

But I don't want make an argument against it. People should be keep campaigning for it.
But Bleach is the DBZ for AS. It's the show that does well consistently and has that appeal to casual viewers.
I'd be surprised if casual viewers from the comedy block would be as interested in Bleach as Bebop, FMA or InuYasha.
I thought it had a real good first season but then it made the classic anime mistake: taking what should be good things, like character development and continuity, and over do them until they become a real drag to watch.
In a world of torrents and streaming what I suspect makes for good ratings is that those who know the show want to watch them again and again.
But then I haven't watched the ratings or Bleach in a long time.
Oh hey forum name change. ;)

Oh, I don't know if I want to make a big deal about a name change.

I'm not sure if I'll be a regular viewer of this block. As I've said before, I don't have a particularly strong attachment to Toonami, and despite my love of animation, I'm not as interested in anime as I was back in the late 90s. The last anime that I consistently watched, as in all the way through, was Death Note. Prior to that? Probably Trigun, if I remember correctly. Suffice it to say, it's been a while. I did dabble in FullMetal Alchemist, but I probably watched less than a dozen episodes.

With only two new shows on the block, that means that the other shows are going to be in the middle of their runs. I don't see how they expect to bring in new fans if they're not going to know what the heck is going on. Perhaps they expect most of the anime fans to already know a great deal about these shows, but with the ratings they're expecting, they're going to need to bring in some new viewers who are unfamiliar with the current anime scene.

I have a bad feeling about all of this.

I agree. And the fact that Adult Swim isn't going to advertise Toonami much outside of Saturday nights isn't helping either. How can they expect twice as much ratings if they aren't even going to advertise it properly?

I know that they have budget problems and all, but I think a lot of people are also disappointed that there aren't any classic Toonami series. I think the nostalgia is what brought all those people to watch Toonami on April Fools day. If they had at least one classic show, I think that would've helped with bringing more people in to watch the block.

It's not like they can just restart Bleach from the beginning. That would take five years!

Cowboy Bebop is mostly composed of standalone episodes, so you don't need to know too much about what's going on to enjoy it.

As for Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG, they only have ten episodes left before it's current run is over, and Cowboy Bebop has only twelve. What I'm hoping is that these shows are placeholders until they can acquire new programming to replace them. That seems like the only legitimate reason why these two aren't restarting from episode one, if you ask me.

That just leaves Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. I dunno why they won't restart that, unless they want to replace it when it ends it's first full series rerun after the next 33 or so weeks.

Basically, I believe that they aren't restarting most of these shows because they want to simply bide time until they have the means and resources to acquire new content. Hopefully I'm right and when they finish their runs we'll see new/old shows appear on Toonami, although I wouldn't cross my fingers on that, since Mr. DeMarco said they do have a tight budget...

frankly im more in the line of new series acquired.........and more so...now that id soaked in the info for a few hours idk if you dont know cowboy bebop by now i doubt you want to.... im still gonna chalk that up to budget again....which really irks me so badly.
there are not even a hand full of animes ill watch entirely over PSG Cromartie High being two of those....
and Cartoon X i pray thats whats going on that will give them about 3 and half months to see some ratings and hopefully gain a bigger budget or hopefully have the higher ups atleast think about a bigger budget

I know. I just think it would probably be wise to move it later into the night. If the average person hears on twitter that Toonami is back, and they watch the block only to see a show that they don't know and have no means of understanding, are they going to stick around? Maybe. I'd start the block with something new that people can follow from the beginning, but I guess Bleach fans would be angry if it aired at 1:00 AM.

That sounds reasonable, and logical, to me. It's not like Bleach fans will really complain about the series airing at 1 am, since it's premiered new episodes in that timeslot before.

My guess is that Bleach is staying in it's current timeslot because they are trying to use it's popularity to help the ratings of Deadman Wonderland. But perhaps it would have been better to move Bleach between Deadman Wonderland and Casshern Sins, to help them both out at the same time. Guess they felt safer with the current schedule than that alternative though.

Bottom Line People:
You need to watch if you want more, and you need to watch it LIVE. DVR'ing and watching it later doesn't carry the same weight as the watching it in progress and not skipping the ads. If you are going to record it, just keep the TV tuned in the background... we need to make this count!

Only people with Nielson boxes effect ratings. The rest of us may as well not exist (except to help spread the word and promote the block).

Ya know, with all this technology to be able to tweet a beloved cartoon block back into existance, you'd think we'd have a more accurate way to measure ratings/viewership by now.

It's like an electoral college for TV shows, except terrible.

Okay, so I found out that Sailor Moon had meet and greets at Universal Studios back in May. It would have been so cool if we had that at the turn of the century. I have gotten hugs from a Sailor Moon and a Sailor Mars at a local con back in the 2010s and spent under $100 doing it, so I don't know if this is worth the splurge but I can see that these affluent geeky people are enjoying their Sailor Moon hugs.
The characters from Netflix's Mating Season apparently were born from the same deeps as the Warner Bros cartoon characters
