I don't really see how Neon Alley would have that much of an effect, especially when not everyone will have have access to it and it doesn't give the same kind of exposure as a TV airing does. Besides that, Casshern Sins is out on DVD and I think I've heard about it airing on the Funimation Channel as well, but they were still able to get it. Personally, if they don't get the series that are available through Neon Alley, I think that it would have more to due with the small budget they've been given and unable to afford the shows at the moment more so than trying to make these shows exclusive only to Neon Alley.

That's true, but Casshern Sins was a show that was under the radar that FUNimation wanted to give exposure. I honestly think Casshern Sins was part of a package deal with Deadman Wonderland to boost DVD sales. If you look at the exclusive series that Viz listed on their Neon Alley site, it's mostly well known and popular series. If Adult Swim didn't have Bleach right now, and Bleach was listed under the exclusive series list, I don't think Adult Swim could acquire the show now. Maybe a few months later, but Viz wouldn't allow Adult Swim to acquire the series even if they had the budget to do so. Viz would probably want the series in order to hype up Neon Alley. The same with the current exclusive series. Even if Adult Swim had the budget to do so, Viz wouldn't let them get it right now. So, whether it's delaying the acquisition of a show or not being able to acquire shows at all, Neon Alley will affect Adult Swim, in my opinion.

The two shows I'd want to see are as follows.

Berserk
Golgo 13

Both shows would be very cheap to get. Toonami won't air the Berserk films, but the first two movies aren't good at all, and their isn't high hopes for the 3rd.

I didn't say that none of their titles wouldn't make it to Adult Swim. I said some titles, most likely shows that have fan bases and are well known (that are on the exclusives list). Viz will probably hold onto those. They could and probably will let Adult Swim acquire some shows from them if they had the budget, but I still think that they could hold on to the shows first to make them exclusive to Neon Alley first before they air on TV. The reason why I think Viz would put Neon Alley before Adult Swim is because Neon Alley is their own unlike Adult Swim. They would want to make sure Neon Alley is a success before Adult Swim. I'm not sure if Neon Alley will use streaming rights or broadcasting rights, since it's still a channel with schedules and everything like a regular TV channel, just on a different platform. And this isn't just about Viz, it also involves Aniplex USA. If Aniplex thinks that they can make more money off Neon Alley than Adult Swim, and keeps going to Neon Alley for their shows, what will happen to Adult Swim? Aniplex USA shows that could've gone to Adult Swim will go to Neon Alley, like Blue Exorcist, and in the end Adult Swim probably won't have much deals, if any, with Aniplex USA. If Neon Alley is a huge success, it could mean the end of Aniplex USA and Adult Swim's relationship as soon as Durarara!! expires. Therefore, Neon Alley will be affecting Adult Swim in some way.

I personally think the "exclusiveness" of shows on Neon Alley really will depend on which shows they are at the end of the day. I would say that Naruto Shippuden and Inuyasha: The Final Act would most definentely stay exclusive to the block because those are established franchises that could reel people in. Other shows like Tiger and Bunny or Zetman, I would think are more of a case of AS not having the money for them.

Tiger and Bunny is dubbed up to episode 14 or 15 according to the panel at AX meaning the odds are pretty good there was enough of it done to have it premiere along side Toonami, and while it is a relatively big title I doubt Viz would have seriously prioritized putting on NA over AS given it;s still a somewhat new franchise, so I think that really was just a case of AS not having whatever Viz wanted for it. Basically I'd say anything that's "new" has a 50/50 shot of going either way.

Also on the case of Blue Exorcist I think it's worth noting that it was outright said Neon Alley is the reason it's even getting a dub at all and Viz is helping to fund the dub in some fashion so obviously that will be exclusive for as long as possible.

Moribito stopped for a while because of rights issues and Adult Swim had to get them directly from the Japanese license holder. It was Code Geass that had dub issues, as Adult Swim charged right into Code Geass R2 without taking a break inbetween seasons, only to have to stop R2 premieres after a few episodes because they caught up to the dub. Of course, Adult Swim was trying to burn through Code Geass at that time and just wanted to get the show over with, they were in full "phase anime out" mode at the time they did that . . . when R2 started premiering again they tried to burn Bleach off similarly, but Bleach did well enough in the ratings to justify anime sticking around.

I have no news or discussion to offer at this point in time, I just wanted to chime in and say that I've really been enjoying watching Toonami week in and week out since it's return. I like the overall atmosphere of the block with the cool beats and the space ship sounds, it reminds me of a fun time in my life where I was actively watching Toonami quite often. I love that anime is being presented with a "spotlight" on it and that Adult Swim seems to actually be behind the block instead of just letting it sit and wane, that was important for me to see. Sure, the ratings have been up and down and things haven't quite hit a leveling off point yet, but Toonami's time slot puts it up against heavy competition with UFC and boxing PPV's as well as sporting events that run late such as baseball games and other such things. But all in all I'd call the block a success and the fact that Twitter explodes every Saturday night shows that the fan base is being vocal, which is also very important.

I haven't been here in the Toonami board for a little bit so I just figured I'd drop in and give those feelings.

Yeah, honestly it just hit me today again how we're so freaking lucky that Toonami is even a thing right now. I honestly didn't think I'd ever see the day where we'd see the block back and I never thought I'd see if able to air this kinda mature stuff or on Adult Swim but frankly if it wasn't for the folks at Williams Street we wouldn't have Toonami anything right now or perhaps ever.

I just wanted to break from all the discussion of the block's future/potential changes and/or gripes of any kind to just reflect on how we got the block back and that's freaking awesome.

I'm sure there are those who wouldn't call themselves "Toonami Faithful" who may never be satisfied with how the block is or what they play. But frankly, we're lucky that there is a place that airs non-toyetic anime on cable. And honestly to me that's what matters. WS has stuck it out for us with anime all these years when other channels have come and gone.

It was an unbelievable stroke of luck that Adult Swim decided to even bother with this revival at all. It's up to us now to watch it and not let Toonami on Adult Swim become a failed experiment.
